How to Build a Murphy Bed for Beginners

- In this video we will build the bed frame of the Murphy Bed using the hardware kit. As a beginner woodworker, you too can make a beautiful and functional bed for your office or spare room. I am not a woodworker but you don't need to be in order to have a great bed at a much lower price than most online and furniture stores!

Great video. What did you use for the false doors and drawers on the front? Store bought trim? Did you have to add 3/4 inch to the side panels in order for the front to be flush?
I used store bought trim, it’s only about 3/8 thick so I did not recess it because it blends back to the base on both sides
Do you mind giving the dimensions for your trim design and what size pulls you used please?
I used 6” pulls on the faux cabinets and 4” on the faux drawer pulls. Then I made the drawers about 12” tall by half the width of the face panel and made sure to leave about an 1/8” cap between each to make it look more real

I don’t personally, but there are a couple of horizontal kits available at create-a-bed and Amazon.
Just found your video. I’m trying to figure out if it’s cheaper to build a bed or buy one. The price of lumber in California has skyrocketed since COVID. Anyway you could supply the wood list you needed so I could price it out before purchasing the kit? The difference between the two queen sized beds you linked? Heading over to watch install vid now.
Thank you for watching. I used 4 sheets of birch plywood, some poplar 1x2s and 1/4 in birch ply. The other costs were fasteners, paint and the hardware kit. I honestly don’t know if you can do it cheaper now, in my case it was much cheaper much better quality than any others I have found premade. When you are sourcing your plywood, don’t go to a big box store, look around for a good hardwood company and you will find better plywood, usually for less

what happened to building with just few tools already in the garage ? not everyone has a miter saw tucked in their garage !
You don’t need a miter saw if you don’t have one. But you do need a way to cross cut.
Were did you get your plans for the Murphy bed.

In total, how long did it take you to make?
Working on it a few hours a day, I had it painted and installed in just under 2 weeks. I would have been faster if I was able to focus on only this project.

Do you honestly believe that every beginner has a mitre saw in their garage?
If you don’t have a miter saw you can hand cut with any type of cross cutting saw you would like.
@@swankyslabwood I think you kinda missed the point of my comment. It wasn't that I don't have a miter saw so I don't know how to cut wood, it was more along the lines that you may have lost touch with what it's like to be "even the most novice of woodworkers".
