Iris Story - Finding hope and restoration amidst great loss.

This month I wanted to share Iris's story. From recovering from addiction, losing her son isolating herself from family to going through our Damascus Recovery program for ladies and finding hope and restoration. Watch Iris's Restoration story.
“It's been 13 years, and it's about time that I came home to God. I was, I was mad at God for a long time, but he never forsake me. Every time I turned my back on him, he would show his love even stronger. I was out there prostituting. I knew that God was with me. Things could have went so much worse than getting HIV. I now have a sound mind. After all these years, I still have my own mind. Baptism symbolizes a dying of the old flesh and a recreation of a new life. I didn't see no hope for a future before y'all was either going to die on the streets or I was going to be killed on the streets as a drug addicted prostitute. But now I can stand and say, no, that's not the same Iris anymore.”
A few years ago, we saw the necessity to resurrect a recovery program for ladies. And much like the Men's Christian Life Discipleship Program, Damascus Recovery comes with individual classes, special chapels, mental health counseling, a medical clinic, and a legal clinic, getting rid of the legal issues that weigh them down. It's a complete process of working toward recovery. It is a great opportunity, really an open door, and allows God to work through our staff.
Today, Iris stands as a testament to the power of compassion and the transformative power of Christ. Iris has been given a second chance at life-one she never thought possible.
But Iris's story is not an isolated incident. There are countless individuals like her who are yearning for a chance at redemption, healing, and a fresh start and we can be part of that transformation.
