    We recently bought a 2020 hybrid and couldn't be more happier! We love the new style both inside and outside. What's most impressive is the overall gas mileage which is over 50 mph and the smooth ride that easily tops any compact car I've driven. The engine performance in the normal drive mode is adequate and the power drive mode gives you much more power which we use frequently especially on the freeway.

    WOW! A superb, very detailed video..really! Some of the things you point out nobody else has (and I've watched several review videos). Some of those details people normally don't ask about or realize until they get the vehicle home. We rented a XSE just last week during vacation. Really enjoyed the vehicle (except for the road noise, presumably due to the type of tires). I would imagine there are just a few differences between the LE and the XSE. Would you care to comment on that? Other reviews hinted that Android integration (instead of ONLY Apple) may come later...have any inside scoop on that?

    Hybrid. No doubt. However at 24 K I would step into the Prius se due to more standard features. And I like the hatch design more. But that extra two gallons in the Corolla is tempting.
    Also are you going to do a walk around with the RAV4 hybrid when your dealership gets one?

  • @mackman1480
    @mackman1480 Před 5 lety +1

    Watching from Canada another good video on explaining things in practical terms for the motorist to understand. William Weaver also explains in the comments about the 50000 watt electric motors equivalent to 67 horsepower on top of the 121 horsepower ICE to give performance in power mode. I think the thing that makes people think they are gutless is the 121 horsepower rating but forget the electric power is 100 % instant with no lag which from personal experience in taxi's is pretty peppy off the line, not a corvette but easily able to keep up with traffic and merge on highways. I read awhile back that Toyota globally has the hybrid synergy drive in over 5 million vehicles and been available since 1997. It is funny that people who don't own them who think it is new technology and not proven or expensive don't realize it has been around for over 20 years.

And also, does anyone know if the Prius 2018-2020 have ac vents on the back seats? I've seen a photo where it looks like the back seats have an air vent on their sides 🤔

    • @WilliamLWeaver
      @WilliamLWeaver Před 5 lety +4

      Hi, James! I've been driving my 2020 #CorollaHybrid for its first 1400 miles. The 1.8L ICE has less HP than the 1.8L ICE in my 2011 Corolla LE. The specs are 121 HP for the Hybrid and 139 - 169 HP for the non-hybrid, depending on trim. The Hybrid has three (3) horsepower sources, one 1.8L Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) and two (2) Electric Motors providing a total of 50,000 Watts of power. With conversion, that is 67 HP. In "Power" (PWR) mode, the Corolla Hybrid uses both the ICE and the Electric Motors to get off the line. 121 + 67 = 188 Total HP. This thing is way jumpier off the line than my 2011 LE ever was... =]

    • @FredFlintstone21
      @FredFlintstone21 Před 5 lety +2

  • @jerrygreitens2522
    @jerrygreitens2522 Před 4 lety +2

    I’m getting the hybrid because I don’t trust the reliability of the regular CVT In the non hybrid. Anyone concerned with reliability should never, ever buy a regular CVT transmission from any brand, even Toyota.

  • @adampayne4814
    @adampayne4814 Před 5 lety +2

    24000 miles (my yearly mileage) / 37 mpg (that is what i get on current gas non-hybrid Corolla) x $2.80 per gallon = $1816.21 per year
    24000 miles (my yearly mileage) / 53 mpg (hybrid Corolla) x $2.80 per gallon = $1267.92 per year
    Gasoline price savings per year of hybrid = $548.28
    Hybrid cost to purchase is $3000 more, so it would be 5 1/2 years ($3000 / $548.28 = 5.47) to recoup the original additional hybrid costs. Hmmmmm. Not sure how good a deal that is for me.
    Maybe I would get better than 53 mpg on hybrid, since I get better than average mileage on current 2011 gas-only Corolla (I do a lot of highway driving). Still not sure if I am sold.

    Tell your friends at Toyota HQ to sell the Corolla hybrid wagon in North America. Why is Toyota so afraid of giving us something more practical than a sedan. Look, Mazda sells only a tiny amount of Miata MX5, but they still make and sell them. Even if only 5000 wagons were sold in NA, that's still 5000 more than if they don't sell it. The 86 & FR-S only sold a combined 4133 in 2018 in North America, and will sell even less in 2019. Don't tell us there is no market for a hybrid wagon; if they were on the dealer lot they would sell because they have no competition and not everyone wants, needs or wishes to pay for a SUV like the RAV4. I am sure you would be a good salesman for the hybrid wagon. I have nothing against sedans, but a wagon offers a lot more usable cargo capacity.
    Corolla keeps getting better every year, no wonder it is the best selling car of all time.

      @@dimitermarchev9040 For a modern car, the Corolla offers very good visibility so there is no reason blind spots should be a major problem. In general Toyota's safety features are miles ahead of their competitors.

    • @dimitermarchev9040
      @dimitermarchev9040 Před 5 lety +2

      Right Lane Hog, Toyota safety sense 2.0 is a good safety system; however, if I buy a new Corolla hybrid and spend $25K, I would like to have a blind spot monitor system as well! Toyota offers blind spot monitor AND rear cross traffic alert for $600 on Toyota Camry Hybrid LE as an option, so not having blind spot monitor (without rear cross traffic alert) is just an excuse to ask people to go and buy a Prius. It is not right.
      On the other hand, if you want to buy a 2019 Prius, you are left on the side of the road scratching your head why they did not add the new safety sense 2.0 with the middle cycle refresh?! Why did they left the infotainment screen for the radio only 6.1 inches when they sale 7 inch screen on 2018 models? Yes, you can have 11.6 inches screen in the limited model, but this screen/display is not a very good option because it combines controls for A/C system. So, let’s say you have the car for 6-7 years and this screen/display stops working? You will be faced with huge expense of replacing it because you will not be able to run A/C system otherwise.
      Prius/Corolla are amazing cars, but buying a car is an investment for many people, so they want to have all safety features that are available at the moment on the market!

      The 50,000 Watt Electric Motors provide a burst of 67 hp on demand in the "current gear" of the CVT without needed to up shift to get into a good torque range of the internal combustion engine.
