Someone I know is a teacher, they didn’t realise what 4 lions was as 3 lions is tied to English Football, so they let the class watch it as a Christmas treat….
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 This comment wins!!!
Im chuffed with this!!!
And for non Northern English speakers, that’s a good thing!!!
😂😂😂
If you liked this and want to give props to the guy with the balls who made it, please react to his work on Brass Eye and The Day Today. Chris Morris. He actually managed to fool the entire British parliament into banning a drug that does not exist. Trust me. Brass Eye and The Day Today are the gold standard of satire and spoof.
I miss both of those. Paedogeddon was a whole new level 😂
He also played Denholm Reynolm in IT Crowd, which they reacted to. (Matt Berry’s dad who jumped out the window in S2)
@@Lew99900 oh I’m
Well aware. I’m waiting for Black Books, too.
That’s sounds like “Nounce Sense”. 😉😄
Pedo disguised as a School 😂
I was at the cinema in Bradford when this had its UK Premier. The reception, particularly amongst the Asian and Muslim population was huge. There were queues stretching right outside the cinema and around the corner. It was very well received as a comedy masterpiece and the reaction and atmosphere was incredible.
A brilliantly done film. Hilarious and strangely heartfelt at the same time.
I went to a Q&A with the director and some of the cast when it came out. He got the idea from seeing a steady stream of news stories about prospective suicide bombers and terrorists being utterly incompetent and blowing themselves up. The film was (deliberately) misunderstood by the mainstream media here in the UK who chose to say it glorified or supported terrorism. Quite the opposite - but it did also give a glimpse into the thinking and beliefs of people being drawn into that way of thinking. Sometimes normal, otherwise decent, people can be deceived and led into doing horrible things. The best comedy also reveals truths.
As we were over Brexit!
The police raid on the brother (and the brothers character overall) was to highlight how clueless people (and the authorities in particular) are about Muslims and ‘extremism’.
The brother who lived his life by the book may have traditions we don’t agree with in the west but he was hugely anti violence.
The one who planned the terror attack in the name of Islam thought his brother was soft for living that life and you never see or hear him talking about religion in any meaningful way. He occasionally takes a few out of context parts to try and justify what he does.
Well said, all of this
One of the funniest and important comedies of recent times and the acting is phenomenal. I'm basically from the same background as the main characters and apart from the terrorism I felt like I actually knew these guys which makes the ending especially poignant, tragic and heartbreaking. 10/10 film and glad you guys enjoyed it. It's a shame most people have never even heard of it.
A few years back I told some of the lads at work (Muslims) that I had watched East is East and they put me onto this film, one of the funniest and gut wrenching films ever, instant classic.
I think that is a big point with this film - it really is poignant, tragic and heartbreaking, not just funny.
It was written and directed by the guy that was the first boss in the IT Crowd, Reynholm (real name Chris Morris), he did loads of great comedies, Watch the clip of the "The Day Today" called war. classic.
Yeah Chris Morris has done loads of great stuff. If you haven’t seen it you should check out the film he did after this, “The Day Shall Come” It has kind of a different tone but is equally as sharp and absurd and based upon a real life story.
Still using "rubber dinghy rapids bro!" as a stand-in for "lets do this!" aaaall these years later 😅
It just takes the piss out of both sides of the religious argument and makes you realize how sad it is.
First time I watched this the line 'Is he a martyr or is he a Jalfrezi?' left me struggling to breathe! Chris Morris is a genius of satire!
You should do more Chris Morris, especially Brasseye. The drugs and peadogeddon episodes are classics.
Starting Sundays in 2024 we're doing "Docu-Series" starting with "Guy Martin's How Britain Worked" & we vote on these things in Patreon. We'll toss Brasseye on the poll once we finish with Guy Martin & see how it stacks up!
@@EmbraceTheSuck21 Brass-Eye is no documentary. It's a satire that takes aim at the state of current affairs shows. Brilliantly, I might add, although like The Day Today, what once was an exaggerated look at TV, has now been overtaken by the ridiculousness of modern media.
There are no limits to the subjects of which you can take the piss.
This is the United Kingdom and we hold those rights like a sailor's pint on shore leave.
Hence why this wouldn't go over well in America 🤷🏻♂️
@@EmbraceTheSuck21 It would if you got rid of all the woke Arse holes.
@@EmbraceTheSuck21 No point in banging on about free speech all the time if you're not prepared to use it.
The monarchy, the government, the church they're all fair game. In fact everything is.
Me too. Oh, bollocks.🙂
If no one has mentioned it one of the UK's most popular cult movies is Withnail and I. My wife hates it but I love it.
Patience grasshopper...
your wife's right
@@duckarse11 I hate it, too.
Best British film ever made
Fantastic film! :)
They would never make a movie like this today.
One of the most underrated comedies of all time, in my opinion. Doesn't take the low hanging fruit. Its a phenomenal script. The especially the way it manages to make that finale equally hilarious and sad is incredible.
Chris Morris is brilliant. He did the IT Crowd & also did a show with Charlie Brooker (Black Mirror) called Nathan Barley. Only six episodes. It was years ahead of its time. Nobody reacts to it. I think it's on YT. It's genius. Watch it for fun, even if you don't film it.
Nathan Barley basically predicted the world a decade later. It's insane how insightful Brooker and Morris are.
4 Lions is also one of my favourite films. So good!
Nathan Barley was just the dog's bollocks
Chris Morris amazing writer, actor, comedian, the day today, brasseye, both satirical news shows and Jam, one of the most insane, dark, surreal sketch shows. Another funny thing he did was turn up to a day time talk show pretending to be someone else and just talks complete nonsense but then the presenter gets someone tell him in his ear that its Chris Morris. Oh and first boss in IT crowd.
When the movie was made distributors were concerned. In separate screenings they showed it to all Muslim audiences and all non- Muslim audiences. Both groups found it hilarious, but didn’t think the other audience would appreciate it at all. Personally, I think it should be shown in schools.
My man, this movie premiered at Sundance in Utah. It got great reviews from American film critics. In fact, the majority of the negative reviews came from UK outlets. The only people in America who get offended by this are the same people that love to call everyone else snowflakes.
Great reaction though. Glad to see this getting some attention.
You missed the ending after the credits
The milk float chase was filmed on Argyle Road, going passed Carfields school, Meersbrook Park and the house I lived in as a kid, 1961/2. 👍
As mentioned before, this was written by Chris Morris (Denolm Reynolm from the IT crowd). He said that his general premise for the film was that the typical narrative about terrorists painted them as well organised and meticulous. He hypothesised that there must be incompetent ones, so did a film about it. Chris Morris has never shied away from controversial topics. Definitely check out The Day Today and Brass Eye. I would start with The Day Today personally. If you watch that without listening properly you would think it was just a news programme.
Initially Director Chris Morris apparently stuggled to get it financed for a while and so began exploring the option of crowd funding it, which was unusual for the time. Thousands of fans pledged to donate towards its budget. But Morris was then able to show this to investors and convinced film four to produce it instead. As a thanks to the fans, Chris Morris sent out film cells he had signed with a personalised message and I was lucky enough to get one. It's possible the whole thing was just a story to promote it and make it sound more controversial than it was but idk.
The script was co-written by Jesse Armstrong and Sam Bain who are better known as the writers of Peep Show.
Chris Morris did a significant amount of work on the script but also years of research. You might be surprised how much the level of farce is inspired by true stories.
The earlier work of Chris Morris was fantastic but i'm not sure how news satire from back then looks today- possibly indistinguishable from reality
I'm so glad you watched this, it's an incredible film, so funny but so serious as well.
I remember the first time I saw this stoned off my face with my mate Jordan, we thought we just found it so funny because we were high so we watched it again about a week later sober and found it even funnier 😂
Long live Chris Morris! Possibly the greatest comic writer to have ever lived, The Day Today (which also featured Alan Partridge) might be the funniest thing I’ve ever seen! Would love to see you guys watch that, it’s a little dated now but it’s still absolutely hilarious 😂
I love this film so much - it’s the pinnacle of dark English comedy. It’s also the only film that made me sad for a terrorist. He was clearly low intelligence and didn’t understand what was happening but they convinced him it was right when he said it felt wrong. It was sad watching how his brother tried to talk him out of it in the end and he exploded anyway. The fact that he then decided to kill himself because he couldn’t live with it and not actually taking out any “infidels” was sad at the end.
Lots of comments about Chris Morris but another interesting fact is the producer of this Derrin Schlesinger (who also produced the IT crowd and a bunch of other famous shows including some projects with Chris Morris) is also the producer of the upcoming IronClaw movie about the Von Erichs starring Zac Efron.
Glad you love his film, so many quotes that I still remember from the first time watching it
Such a good... Bleak... Fantasticly made movie.
British humour to the extreme...but brilliant....British comedy is the best innit
"Panties up in a wad". Is that the American equivalent to getting your knickers in a twist?!
Ding Ding Ding! You got it 👍🏻
The film was shot in my home city of Sheffield .so funny .
This was filmed in my home town of Sheffield 😂
One of those guys is the phonejacker
The best way to take the power from something is to mock it 👍🏻
This is proper UK spoof, our version of Naked Gun type humour lol
It's VERY well worth watching the special features (they're on youtube), the research was meticulous for this.
As many have said, very well received by the Asian community here, plenty of Muslim friends really appreciated the film. Amazingly quotable film and a masterpiece of tragedy.
Waj - with that awful, tragic line "sorry lads, I don't know what I'm doing" is? was in What We Do in the Shadows. Great actor + Riz Ahmed - the main guy is carving out an impressive acting career (Sound of Metal is stunning) and Barry/Nigel Lindsay's in a whole bunch of UK tv.
The fake laughing hurts
Not sure if people been pulling the wool over your eyes but the UK has its fair share of overcorrecting karens too. Although it may very well be not as bad as the usa.
One of my favourite movies ever. It drops off a bit near the end but the rest of it is brilliant.
Comedy in the UK is a PC free zone... It's got artistic licence to go places others can't go.
Virtually nothing is taboo in British comedy! 😀
It was shown in America but going off the takings only a few cinemas (Gross US & Canada
$304,616)
Look at the sender on the wedding email 🤣
You'd love Bluestone 42. A British Military comedy set in Afghanistan following a bomb disposal team.
Too soon?
It's a 6/10 at best.
Wadj is Fonejacker/Face jacker.
And if you love a dark and bleak sense of humour then 'Sightseers' is a must
And even better, the genius that is 'In Bruges' 🤣🤣
It was shown in America
Rubber dinghy rapids bro.
The film was written and directed by Christopher Morris, who you’ll know better as Denholm Renholm in the IT Crowd.
And 'The day today' where Alan Partfridge came to life
It is a funny film. But the ending is sad. I will rewatched it before seeing this reaction. Mustn't forget Team America World Police that was popular if controversial.
Man i feel you, my best friend at the time had her 16th birthday on 9/11. I dont think she ever had a happy birthday again.
‘F**king mr Beans’
Still makes me laugh and I occasionally use it myself😂

Rubber dinghy rapids bro!
What did you just call us?! Lol jk 😜 🤣
This was actually released on Blue ray and DVD in the U.S. on 8 March 2011 after a limited theatrical release in the US on 5 November 2010. Seven months after the same release in the UK. There is very little that can't be shown in the US, especially if there is money in it.
Verrryyy limited like... 8 theatres in the whole of the US showed it 😅
@@Lonewolf_121 The politics of the U.S. and the news media made sure that it was under played and put down as much as possible.
This is one of my all time favourite films
Ours too, it's required watching now!
@@EmbraceTheSuck21 definitely required 😂
One of the best British movies be have some good classics
Can't you match your sound levels to the sound level of the movie? If I turn my sound levels down, so the constant forced belly laugh doesn't break my eardrums I can't hear anything from the film. Okay, so I've watched the movie and have it on my Prime Movie account but it's so damn annoying.
Copyright
@@EmbraceTheSuck21 I'm pretty sure you're taking things too far. How is having to give a forced laugh three times the sound level of the film every fifteen seconds evading the copyright rules? Well, it's working for me as I couldn't stay and watch it. I've watched you guys for years, and also liked the film enough I already have it from Prime but that was annoying.
Part of UK Culture :p . "Rubber Dinghy Rapid". @p nuf said
Do you know that this was written by the guy who plays Denholm Renham in the IT crowd?
Denholm Reynholm
@@jase6709 Thanks, I couldn't be bothered to check!
The bit where he explains how he disguises himself makes me effin piss every time, rubber dinghy rapids bruddu :DDDD great film. Think you would enoy a film called 'Anuvahood' in a similar vein
Would like to see you review the film Quadrophenia it’s a forgotten masterpiece.
Chris Smith spend a year or two visiting Muslim communities as research for the film. The community saw the terrorists as out of touch, lost, idiots. It’s a funny satire on how society portrayed them as bigger and tougher than the reality
He had a few "consultants" as well who were reformed Al Queda guys, he said on his interview with ophie and anthony, guys who had been to bosnia etc.
Great film. Remember seeing it at the cinema and the entire cinema of all races and religions were in hysterics.
If you've ever watched phone jacker, Waz, the tall indian is the man who does all the voices
He’s Iranian
It was shown in America.
That's a shocker

Chris Morris is a whole new level. Brass Eye and Jam are some of the most disturbing yet hilarious pieces of art ever created. The Day Today is more silly but brilliant also.

If anyone is from Birmingham they will know Star City is a popular place for Asian people and the Pakistani community especially…..
That’s where I watched this film, me and my partner being the only non Asian people in the packed cinema.
Having watched a lot of Morris’ work I was nervous about what was to come…..the opening scene just set the tone.
Whole cinema was howling with laughter throughout.
As with all subjects he covers, he does it in a way in which he’s mocking it and not everyone associated with it.
If you come to watch Brass Eye you’ll maybe understand why I was a bit nervous, not knowing what he was going to do and how it would be received.
Much like myself I bet that everyone was loving seeing the most accurate representation of themselves, apart from the terrorism (hopefully 😂), they'd ever seen on screen. Amazing film.
I don't think Spencer was watching the movie. Just fake laughs and terrible jokes
Somebody had a bad day at the office...
Best Christmas present I could have asked for
There was an extra bit after the credits wasn't there?
Yep. You find out who the rocket actually killed.
Sadly, comedy has got much more PC in the UK. The BBC in particular won't make or even show repeats of anything that might 'offend'. The real comedy you apprecaiate will, almost without exception, be that from the past. Great shame.
What was that? About 8 seconds of no context clips? And while it may have been played as comedy, the movie is about the tragedy and pointlessness.
“Is a wookie a bear, control?”
Withnail & I
absolute cult classic
Please Please Please watch and review 'Nighty Night' with the BAFTA awarded actress and comedy writer Julia Davis, also her award winning comedy 'Sally Forever ' and the truly shocking 'Camping' will have you gobsmacked. What about 'Gimme Gimme Gimme' with Kathy Burke and James Dreyfuss, that's a true classic, try that too.
And Bottom lol, I've never seen anybody on youtube react to Bottom 😂
Never draw a line for any artform - movies, books, comedy, etc.
I love, love, love this film.
