  • iTalki is a platform where native speakers and teachers can help you to learn English through one to one lessons. I am both a student of French and a teacher of English on this website! Here is my honest review! (This video is not sponsored by iTalki)

I have an impression that community tutors are more searched when the people are more advanced on the language and want to pratice conversation

Wow, it was great to hear I wasn't the only one who was super nervous about being a first-time student. I've been taking Japanese lessons with a great teacher for six weeks now (one lesson a week) and I love it. I did try a sample lesson from another teacher last year and didn't feel like she was very into it, so I kind of let everything slide, then decided to try again, and I'm really glad I did. Just wanted to add I'm paying $32/hour and it's worth it. As a self-employed person, I have no problem with paying for a worthwhile professional service.

I just signed up with italki to learn Korean, so it is nice to see your perspective on being both a student and teacher. Thank you for this very informative video!

I began to learn English, because of my favourite band in the Czech Republic. They're sometimes singing song in English. I had problem with it. I blamed them for it. But one day I said to myself that I want to understand English. I'm learning myself with my favourites English teachers from here. One of my homework is to speak with native speaker on Italki and fear is my the bigest enemy. I don't want to avoid this experience but I need more time to prepare myself for it. I am happy that I found someone who teach on this platform :-)

OrI should apply for Indonesian teacher on Italki because my first language is Indonesian? Thank you so much❤

Oh wait, you partner teaches Welsh? I might book some lessons with him in the future then 😊 about my experience with italki, as a teacher I was accepted as a pro teacher for the language I specialised in but I am not a native speaker so I get no students from there. I get more students through my personal platforms. As a student I am taking conversational classes and enjoy it

i want to teach german(because it is my native language and there are way less german teachers than english), but the frustrating thing is that i looked into the goethe institute and for their easiest qualification you need to have already teached at least 500h.... but when i have teached so much, i already probably will have figured out how to teach! it makes so no sense at all! i would love some videos about teaching methods that are perhaps language independent? like good learning games to play with students or so... how to make the learning experience fun for the students... do you teach only 1on1 or also in groups? is this even possible on italki? i so want to teach, but feel so insecure about it :(

Actually, making mistakes is not the only way we learn. My experience has been that I get far more correct by myself than I ever get wrong. This I suspect is the same for everyone.

Personally, I just want to chat with a native speaker and I'll teach myself the language. So, the tutor in my case doesn't need to be a highly qualified teacher. He or she just needs to have a generally good education.

I have been on Italki for about a year. Everything seemed to be ok until a few days ago when Italki advised that as I haven't used my entire package that they will just forfit it! I guess neither you, nor your teacher should go on vacation during the duration of your package.
Italki also has horrible customer service and I urge you to beware of this platform. Try Preply.
