      People don’t want to be educated about the world, and the creatures around them; they want to be *entertained*. Even if the zookeepers did stay at exhibits and try to reinforce guests to be respectful, they wouldn’t. I understand the massive importance of zoos as a conservation effort, and I generally support the idea, but I wish more zoos had the resources to instruct their guests on how to conduct themselves in the presence of proven intelligent animals.

    Heres the thing I totally get that you all thought it was cute and it came off as dancing and none of you are animal experts but...
    1) Thats not dancing thats showing of power, control, ownership, and defense.
    2) You made the animal aggressive because you were actually challenging him
    3)This aggression is important for self preservation, if you were to win at this his safety would be considered endangered in the wild
    4) You've made the job of the people who work with these animals harder because they will be more hostile to deal with
    5) This particular chimpanzee seems older so therefore stress levels heightened are not good for their health as they get older.
    6) Being in an enclosure with countless people mocking them and bothering them has already taken any sense of independence they ever had in the wild so to also have to deal with this is horrible.
    Again Im sure you meant no ill will to the animals as you didn't know, but now you do so maybe you should consider making it clear that you understand that now and for future zoo visits practice some respect for the animals there.

    • @punkhyena875
      @punkhyena875 Před 2 lety +2

      While I don't think keeping animals locked in cages is ethical one bit and this is a horrible idea to do this chimp wasn't acting in a violent manner more of a play fighting or playing manner which chimps use to establish dominance so it's semi aggressive but normal. I'm no animal expert but after this between two chimps it would likely end in them grooming each other.
      I still wouldn't recommend doing it but the chimp doesn't seem angry or agitated like if this was a juvenile or younger chimp it could be much more likely turn into a real bit of aggression or anger but since this is as you said an older chimp there probably alot less aggressive they weren't displaying there fangs or lashing out more just playful behavior.
      That being said I don't think people should ethically do this I believe highly intelligent animals belong in the wild for us to watch not in enclosures we have the technology to observe highly animals as they are meant to be not in a cage.

      Cus thats what would happen if there wasnt any glass at all, the chimp wasnt dancing, it was trying to appear bigger for intimidation, and it thought by how the man was jumping that it wantes to fight. Had the glass not been there what most likely would have happened, was that someone or multiple people would have been seriously injured or someone would have died
