My sister, daughter & I went on a private 8-hour tour in Singapore! We paid $300 & the guy was so freaking GREAT! He completely wore us out, went above & beyond! The money was well worth it, and I would definitely do it again.
Ok I love that ! 😁 Out of curiosity, how did you go about meals and museums ? For longer tours like that I worry that I would “waste” time of the tour stopping to visit a museum or go to a restaurant 😂

Oh, and trying to put on shapewear is a true martial art at my age!! Much like trying on swimsuits, which are mostly made to fit women with short torsos.....glory, one has to walk half bent over in order to keep all your bits together!!! It conjures up a real slapstick cartoon.....

As you get older I feel birthdays become more special with just really close friends or your partner.
You are so very wise at your so-young age! (I am ancient) As far as wearing a slip under your dresses: since your are going to learn to sew, maybe look at making your own slips, using a fabric like cotton lawn, as it is a natural fabric, so stays cool. Lawn weighs nothing, so you will also be retaining the light, airiness of summer dresses. I wear these very light lawn slips under my summer dresses - I live in South Africa, where the summers are hot and sticky and often last for 9 months of the year, so staying cool is vital! And I agree, using surgery or injections to alter one's appearance is just stupid - careful make up can help to draw attention to a lovely facial feature, and it is always best to work with what you have been given!
When it comes to the Paris Olympics, I really hope you end up embracing it and enjoying the city. In the run up to the 2012 London Olympics, I was the worst. We too were being told to stay away from public transport, parks, landmarks. Restaurant and coffee shop prices went through the roof. As a London resident felt like I was unwelcome in my own city for a over month. However, then I watched the opening ceremony on TV and it celebrated all the good things about the UK, from Harry Potter to the National Health Service. The was such a positive feel during the entire month, the country really came together and I really grew to embrace the whole thing. Until this day, there are sporting facilities which are still used by Londoners and it has really benefitted young people. The only real shame is that Macron has called this snap election which is just going to create a dark cloud over France. At a time when the Olympics should be bringing people together, this is only going to add to the already hostile feeling among people.
Yes I’ve read a lot of Londoner experiences similar to this and in general people are always negative going into something as huge as the olympics haha so I think once they start it will be fun ☺️ I also think that given the obnoxious prices of hotels, restaurants and the general bad press Paris has received over the past year (bed bugs, protests, etc…) most people are choosing not to travel to Paris during the olympics so it will likely not be as busy i think as people anticipated 😂 I do agree though that the out of the blue election will cause absolute chaos in the streets…. I don’t think anyone was expecting that….
Yep, agree about the shapewear. When I was buying my wedding dress the saleswomen kept trying to push it (I understand, they were trying to help me), but no f-ing way. I'm getting married in July, and I want to be comfortable on my wedding day! And I also agree, it's kind of sad to think that I wouldn't be beautiful enough for my future husband with the body I just have.

The guided tours: If you want to do it, honestly price it and if people can afford it, they'll book it. I've seen private guided tours in other cities priced in the hundreds 🤍 [edited to add] What I mean is, don't assume people wouldn't pay fairly for your level of expertise and for the guarantee of getting a friendly and engaging tour guide! Some people might resent a price they can't afford, but they themselves wouldn't want to work for less than they are worth. You already give so much for free here on CZcams.
So agree with this. People will pay what your worth if they can afford it and your expertise and knowledge. I've seen private tours cost hundreds.

Your lipstick looks very good! I'm also going to purchase that color. You had a chemical reaction to the Mac. I know you will LOVE sewing! I worked my way through Vassar in the Costume Dept and I can sew anything. I made a suit for my graduation in 1973. I am now a skilled quilter. The best thing is to get a portable machine. I have a Singer that I take as a volunteer to neighborhood repair workshops. Get a heavy duty one to make totes, etc. Also, you can cultivate a customer relationship with Etsy sellers who will custom coordinate fabric for you. I have a maker who does my quilt stuff better than me. If you'd like my info for tips and sewing advice, please ask!
As for tour, I would pay $150 USD plus tip.

What you heard about your mouth muscles compensating for forehead muscles is absolutely false and not evidence based. Consider that wearing makeup ALSO creates an unrealistic beauty standard. I use botox and I do it for me because I like it. Not to please others, however, I don't wear makeup much at all. Makeup to me is a much more obvious visual conformance to a standard of beauty, don't you think? It's not obvious I've had botox but it is very obvious when one wears makeup.
Oh totally - it’s not lost on me that I film wearing makeup which is a way to unnaturally enhance beauty 😂 I’d have to sit with it to really better explain my feelings but I think for me, it comes down to the pressure women feel to stay looking youthful (I could be wrong but I think in most cases, filler and Botox are for this purpose ? This is at least what my friends use it for) and so I feel that beauty standards in general are tough on women, but especially ones that are rooted in instilling the fear in us of looking older. Makeup definitely enhances beauty, but I wouldn’t say that it necessarily masks age in the same way injections and procedures do. There was a moment in my childhood that I remember vividly where I was standing with a woman who means a lot to me and she was looking on the mirror and was so upset and sad with the wrinkles that she had. And I just never want a women I know or care about or influence to feel like they need to hide the wrinkles that they’ve earned over the years. But I truly mean no offence when I talk about not wanting to promote treatments to maintain youth or to prevent aging… I was just truly marked by my experience and the sadness I saw another woman feel… it a tough topic for sure :/
If u truly did it for yourself you wouldn’t care what looks natural and what doesn’t? With beauty “stuff”, a huge industry sold to mostly women to increase our value supposedly, to each her own. And since a lot of it is done to make us more attractive to men, or so we pretend, to each his own?
I know what you mean about beauty standards. I went gray during COVID, and now all of the sudden I’m an “old lady”. Recently turning 60, I find I feel the same about myself as I did when I was younger, but other’s views have changed. I just try to keep my positive energy, and not let it get to me. It’s not easy in this day and age. Happy Birthday! Your lipstick is lovely, and I think I’ll pick that one up. Thanks for sharing. ~Dana
