"They just go in and chase those chords until they find it." Who else here does that? Brilliant.
Yes! I felt that
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh this guy just made me tear up I swear. He just described my WHOLE journey through music- talking about learning about music through curiosity. I can't believe this guy just said all of that. Hands up if you care what I think! Oh you're just scratching your head...
pharell is the most extraordinary songwriter-producer in the realm of hip hop. me being an aspiring songwriter-artist/ composer for ascap, be on the look out for an olsdchool lyrical prodigy.
marvin lowery 4 years later and my eyes are open. What you up to these days fam
He speaks the truth…..
Having the Spark and getting trained gives you an Edge.
Awesomeness!
that is very true it doesn't work the other way round though eh
Pharrell got that ass tore off the bone by the Gaye Family. I bet he will ask for permission next time?! He knows "Blurred Lines" was not completely original. It goes back to people thinking and believing their own mind.
Billy Larkin Just like U2
Taylor Harper If you say so, fellow. I just commented, but I do have a busy life. Got Life? smh
he's so intelligent
Please upload the entire interview! His entire speech deserves to be uploaded
If there is anyone you should be taking advice from it's this guy.
I love listening to Pharrell speak. The man is very intelligent and humble. I'd take his advice and run with it, especially if I were an artist/musician.
I come back to this monthly 🎉
Thank you ASCAP for the Video Upload!!
I appreciate that he so willingly shares his knowledge, experience, and opinions.
Thats me ! i love learning and progressing. i much rather create my own music than just playing other peoples music. I'm also in school now for audio engineering(training) go figure lol
how can you dislike this guy, he is the shit since i was a kid
Love it. Well put. Funny highlights. I appreciate his perspective coming from a private instructor. I truly respect you ASCAP!! Good job Pharell!!
Thank you for the inspiration to keep at the training and learning!
It's so thrue what he said. I recognize myself
I got the spark
same
So true
Thank you Pharrell!! Inspiring Message from the Heart!
TRUE WORDS FROM THE BEST THAT EVER DID IT
It is cool to here of his skill set and background. Sometimes it is hard to see how trained musicians are broke while a pop artist with borderline talent will be a star.
“ It allows you a ticket into other places your colleagues can’t go” -Pharrell Williams
excellent video
Vince Tofanicchio is now on CZcams

Good shit
mad video ... Real talk P :)
It's 2020 Pharrell still looks the same. Crazy.
Ha ha ha I'm that guy that is the player, yea I know he's spot on with. It's a codependent relationship that MOST musicians need.
Born from a boombox. :)
Ok
1:38 that's tyler the creator
... this is me apologizing for incorrectly spelling Pharrell's name. My bad.
COMPRESOR ON SPECH
Pay for ASCAP acct chicago classes membership since 2001
pause.
opinion only…Lorde was actually groomed from a young age (13 years) by a major label in New Zealand..calculated I guess to evolve her look and potential appeal as a marketable enigma to the masses / the vision and skill of her beat maker helped by half or more in creating a fresh vision of where and what to be.
She did not randomly or by freakish luck succeed on her own merits... but thats really ok for without the labels input she would not be as big as she is. Well done anyway..love u
My real name is Tyler and I Create Music
hi i make music. hi i am smart. om shanti
... Just went to check Pharrell on wikipedia. Too bad its offline today. FUUUUUUUUH.
actually Elton John writes all the music, his songwriting partner only writes the lyrics.
'only writes the lyrics. hmm ..composing music is a learned skill ,writing lyrics comes from with in, no one can teach you to articulate song lyrics , to be a poet, to be a story teller.....the lyrics end up becoming the more important element. it's what brings the listener back, time and again for the most part.
Oldsongsnew No, it's the music that makes people listen the song again. The melody, the voice the harmony and not the lyrics.
If I want to hear poetry I would read books. That pseudo poetry from the music industry is beyond laughable.
Phil Perry i am merely reiterating information that i've heard from well established songwriters...the songs that make you want to listen too them , time and again..tend to have everything..inc greal lyrics or least hooky ones.....
Oldsongsnew
No, you said that lyrics are the thing that makes people want to hear the songs again, which is incorrect. You have tons of instrumental albums out, but not one a cappella.
Phil Perry i don't think you understand songcraft to a sufficient level that i want to debate with you...your last statement highlights this fact.

How do you spell Pharrell's name wrong??? The first thing I see in this video. Shame...
great advice from the guy who copied marvin gaye on the robin thicke "blurred lines" song.
Great advice from the guy who's "happy" song hit no1 in 20 countries right now.
Oscar Malisz Wonder who he ripped off for that one. Probably an unknown artists struggling to make it. They are always ripe for the picking.
Shan Church
you only just noticed that there are only 12 different notes and ideas get recycled / stolen / payed homeage to also it's entirely possible that two people or more somewhere at any given time are writting the same song unbeknownst to them
Jibicus Maximus Actually there are 7 sometimes just 5 or 6 notes in a scale. There are hundreds of scales. Then you have octaves and rhythm.Technically you have near infinite options, rendering the possiblity to come up with the exact same melody at any given time nearly impossible.
Oscar Malisz Happy is another Marvin Gaye rip off.
