Drive - Favourite Scene #1 (Driver and Irene meet)

- čas přidán 9. 11. 2012
- One of my favourite scenes in the movie. The first time Irene and Driver meet, those moments of connection, initial attraction, and Irene's brief pondering after he leaves are so perfect.
- Krátké a kreslené filmy
He's just reserved and shy. He easily feels the pains of the world so he keeps his emotional distance from it. Good god it's not a syndrome.
***** i don't think he's "detached", he laughs and obviously likes people hes hes just a focused serious guy.not all people are ccompletey open all the time. he acts the way allot of people are. also ryan gosling is a scorpio, so hes just a cool guy. im one too, and this is me half the time with people
jalvin malvin
Who cares what star sign he is?
No, he's also brilliant at a specific thing. Lots of people are just shy and reserved because of psychological shortcomings.
Jalvin brought up the star sign so he could convince himself he's as cool as ryan...
The Deathless Lord Cerberus
oh please, scorpios dont need to compare themselves
I loved the part where he said "it's drivin' time" and drived over Irene
YOU'RE NOT PART OF THE DRIVIN TEAM! YOU DON'T DRIVE! YOU WALK. SLOWLY.
That was the exact moment Driver became Drivenberg
*Drove
"What d'you do?"
"...I drive."
Most iconic line.
“I Drive (2011)” - the driver from Drive (2011)
There's nothing iconic about that line. This movie was a 5/10.

Irene is the healing, bright, light for the driver's dark soul.
@renewer ?
She should have been the one to fill his dark soul with liiiiiiiggggghhhhhtt!!!
Single mom, "healing light", sure Liz sure...
Could be the other way around honestly too
Hes not dark, hes just different
The way they portrayed Irene feels like a woman from a dream who you loved dearly only to wake up and barely remembering her face and the things that happened in said dream. I’m truly in love with her character
I've had that dream like twice in my life and both times I've woke up completely down and telling myself to remember it but within a hour it's gone there was some dude who got hit by a car and went through the same thing but ended up having to be treated for ptsd after he woke up
She is best avoided
That’s such an accurate way to describe it
Wow, that’s a very accurate description
I am in love with her character 😭
This scene is so romantic, even though the words are just like a normal conversation, their body language speaks differently.
Like many, I found the long pauses in the living room scene frustratingly awkward the first time I saw it, but on rewatch it's perfect - it's like they both know they've found the real thing, and know they both know it, and are slightly embarrassed to even have to go through the motions of making small talk when something far deeper is being communicated effortlessly.
The way he stares at her...gives me chills!
hes just a guy who does real shit, when you do real shit, you dont have to talk all the time. also its the nature of the film
exactly bro
Beautiful unspoken words...chills.
I think he had aspergers or something
sometimes you talk if you gotta express yourself
Their convos have that lost highway vibe
I like the moment at 1:44 when she asks him if its dangerous the look on his face is as if it really means a lot to the Driver that shes so interested in him and he just stops and admires her. couldn't help but think that it was done on purpose where the wall behind Irene is red as if showing shes hot for him and the wall behind him is blue showing hes calm and cool
+Andy Scrivens Wow I never noticed that! With a director like Nicolas Winding Refn, I bet it was intentional. Nice observation, dude
+Andy Scrivens Interesting eh! I interpreted the orange backdrop as a representation of her warm and friendly nature and the blue as him having a cold nature.
Also! In the earlier scene at the grocery store, Irene's voice is filtered through Sun laundry detergent. She has a sun motif throughout the film
Irene is the healing, bright, light for the driver's dark soul.
All these things were intentional and on top of that Winding Refn is color blind. He makes the visually most beautiful films and is color blind.
God, these two were PERFECT in this movie. Great film. Great scene.
I love Drive's incomplete love story between Irene and the driver.
he's literally me

@@g_nj He's all of us. But mainly me.
@@Chrisdvc26😂
He cuts the small talk for a brief moment just to look at her. This little pause felt very poetic to me.
8 years late but I love how theirs barely no dialogue in this scene but you can understand so much
The end of this scene is subtly brilliant to me. Gosling said in an interview that they wanted to create a super-hero type character with the Driver... & his symbol being that scorpion on his jacket. Where he is looking down on Irene & her boy from a high vantage seems to connotate a growing sense of affection & protectiveness to me & his capability as a protecting/overwatching prescence is emphasised by that golden light bathing his symbol on back of his jacket. Perhaps I am seeing too much in it :)
Jehu303 see Kavinsky's videos and you can see that, but without Ryan Gosling and the scorpion though
FYI: Ryan Gosling's zodiac sun sign glyph is Scorpio (i.e. the Scorpion).
The Driver is almost ALWAYS shot from below (at an extreme angle, too), which is meant to denote power, threat, aggression, grandness, etc. The few times he ISN’T are usually when he’s around Irene and Benicio.
Jay Bannon nah, just the observations of someone trained in film studies and camerawork ;)
You actually have an eye for the creative art of movie producing.
I wish there was more movies like this.
A bittersweat life, thank me later
Same here. Any recommendations, gang?
@@YesPlease1 Le Samourai (1967), The Driver (1978), Drive took so much of these two; can try Coldblooded (1995), but it's more dark comedy

@@rb5280 First half is amazing, once the story focuses on his son it becomes boring af
Unless you looked like Ryan Gosling this would never be endearing in real life, giving her kid a toothpick, being silent and weird and giving one worded answers. She'd never let him in her place again.
Yeah, this world is cruel, either you're hot or you can gtfo.
That's mostly bullshit. It's not news, looks win most of the time. Not saying it's unfair, it's just cruel.
Because of the "job that pays well" part.

So true
WalterWhite that's not true. Average/ugly looking guys get the most beautiful girls.
quiet confidence
*Locks the door straight after he leaves*
Exactly. Lol
I wonder why she did that
@@jayc8568 She had a crazy ex harassing her so she probably kept it locked at all times.
@@jayc8568 she did it cause she's scared to fall for him.
It’s metaphorical. It has meaning. It’s her attempting to “lock him out” of her feelings because she’s starting to fall for him. But she has a husband so she’s conflicted.
Wow, the way he's looking at her. It's intense. You can literally feel the tension between them. The music is so beautiful.
1:05 I always thought this is the coolest part of the movie when The driver is trying to get to to know more about her but the reality she still have a husband and a kid. The mirror is like a foreshadow of him never really get her. He was trying to play it cool because she's just a projection, of something he wishes he can reach out.
I'm a straight male. but even i was attracted to gosling in this movie. there was something about him in this movie that was just so cool, so mysterious. when this came out he was known as the notebook guy, and it became apparent that he was much much more than that.
It's the movie that made me be able to take him as a legit actor that can be believable in films
Right on
oh shut the fuck up you just want attention
first man to ever give me a boner props to him
Hate to break it to you but if you're a male and find yourself attracted to another male, you're not straight.
Believe it, women are attracted to the quietly confident guys: doesn't do unnecessary small talk, only speaks when needed and is interesting when they do, and is playful and controlled when the mood calls for it. But also remember this only works if it's in your nature and your comfortable in your own skin with it.
And if you’re physically hot

The most romantic scene is stomping hitman's head in the elevator, after kissing Irene
The Driver has quiet confidence.
For smashing heads of gangsters
1:24 the best part
LITERALLY MERE
Driver: "Where should I put these bags of groceries?"
Irene: "Uhh, in the kitchen"
i liked the movie but it seems like they just made the dialogue as they went along. kinda turned me off.

Maybe she locked the door cause that's what a normal person does lol
Or it could be that she lives in Los Angeles, and locking your door is a wise policy.
It's not that deep.
Are you an English teacher?
It's because a horde of wild blacks will give her the ol' raperino if she doesn't lock it you goofy boy
this man is superb and cool as fuck
I watched this movie when I was 16,was too young too understand the underlying emotion in each scene,I watched it again few months ago and I am 23 now understand the meaning of each scene so more
I just noticed the mirror in the kitchen with a picture of Benicio and Standard and Ryan's reflection. This is also foreshadowing because he will soon be the protector.
Drive is an amazing film and this scene is so emotional and so damn good and when you see him actually help this women out you see him actually want a new life and start and out of his life of crime you see him wanting to be something good you see he doesn't want to be the bad guy and when. She wants to here what he does for a living you see his dark world getting brighter
omg, That poor man drank tapwater, his pineal gland is toast
Have him eat pumpkin seeds.
Don't worry, the chemtrails will cancel out the fluoride
The song (I Drive - Cliff Martinez) is amazing. It plays, among other, during their most intimate parts in the movie: this scene, while touching hands in the car, and in the iconic elevator scene.
.........................................................................................................................................................................................I drive.
Real (I drive) (I’m
Literally Ryan Gosling) (Real) (Hero)
There really is just something about this movie man... fuck I love every single frame of it...
Nicolas Winding Refn man, the dude has an amazing eye for visuals
Such little is said in this scene but you feel so much!!! When she seems concerned about the safety of his job he fully relaxes and admires her probably because he’s never had someone care about him before.
The woman wasn't attracted to the driver because of the way he spoke. The woman was lonely and tires of being the only parent in the household. The driver was kind and reliable. Perfect guy for her needs. The driver being lonely as well was looking for something that he can take care of. Throughout the movie, he's always trying to fix things, cars, his friend's money issues, the family next door etc.
1:28 this is what you came here for
Simple and straightforward
What I aspire to be
Ryan Gosling is so attractive in this movie, he did such a good job in his acting role here. So talented.
He had a good time.
1:56 It's only part time...
my getaway driver gig is pretty safe and mellow.
Throughout this scene, The driver is Soaked in a Cold colour schemes of Blue, and a great ton of Shadows. He merges into his Dark and cool surrounding, with the complement of His dark and Cool Jacket.
However, Irene is Framed in Bright and warm Coliur schemes, even when Driver and Irene switch directions, the camera manages to capture them in a Consistent, Cool and Warm Backgrounds.
What stands out for me is the shot of Irene at 2:06 , with the window at the background, with An overflow of Sunshine in the room. And also, inthat shot, the Frame rates rise, hence it's slightly in slow motion. It's like a Moment, through the Driver's POV, of Capture. He stopped in time to analyze that moment and Save it in memory, and so goes for the audience, you and me.
The Juxtaposition is simple yet great in this scene.
I have always felt that there are films, to study, with A thin Plot, a very simple Script, but the visual Language goes really hard.
For ex: Mad Max fury road, Blade runner 2049, Drive etc.
Not to study from a writer's Point of View, but from a Filmmaker. It's beautiful
I love watching the minuscule facial twitches in Ryan Gosling's otherwise stoic face lol
The jaw clinch after I drive. He’s anxious/annoyed. Partly because it’s a half truth I think and the life of the getaway driver takes away from what he thinks he can be. The “hero” the “real human being” my guy is a throwback and a forward when it comes to acting.
There is not much talking in this movie but this has got to be one of the most engaging movies I’ve seen
Fuck this movie is good.
Yes. High re-watchable factor
Man, there are still details that eluded me before: Benicio putting on that bloody mask is foreshadowing the drivers bloody face in the motel scene
That second he lounges & leans up and driver leans up.. that music is gorgeous
OMG! I've literaly melted... Ryan's gaze so "I'm dying to kiss you right now"!
The way his face is dark in the reflection of the mirror as she says that's his father, that's a cool shot
He likes her, but is also scared and nervous because she reminds him too much of Barbie.
HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA
Carey Mulligan has a real Julia Roberts type smile, it lights her whole face.
Always been a pretty girl and a damn fine actress. Her resume speaks for itself.
My favourite scene from the movie is from the garage, when both gosling and Mulligan can't stop blushing.
