Drive - Favourite Scene #2 (Standard's return)

- Another favourite scene of mine - Standard's return party... I included the entire scene as it's important to the actual moment (which is only a very short part of the entire piece).
1.22 - 1.50. The music fades up, effectively becoming non-diegetic, after Standard says I love you, we slowly push in on Irene and cut back and forth between her and Driver - all very basic, but all so perfect. - Krátké a kreslené filmy
Making Standard a good guy was such a great choice. Most movies would make him a cartoonishly bad guy but life is rarely that black and white.
soundtrack made a real difference in this scene
Swap out the word scene with movie. Sou stack turned this movie from great 5oo incredible for me
SoundtrackS
I so agree. This movie had great songs
I remember thinking Standard would be the villain of the movie...
Turns out he's the most likable guy in the whole movie!
I'm just some Canadian guy and I say yep And we barely have many screen time for him 😤
I'm just some Canadian guy and I say what bout main character
Biggest wuss in the movie. He is the first to die. And gets beat up.
“But second chances are rare, right? And that’s worth celebrating, right?”
Very understated
laughing at how the guests are just listening to this song for the entire party
I would do the same. Love that song.
The Name of the song please ?
@@yassinel6696 Under your spell by Desire
Thank you bro
Yeah movie maker loser nobody?
Standard was actually really cool about that interaction. He knows Irene didn’t have a sexual relationship with driver. That still showed a lot of patience since she has shown it with him. Driver wanted them to work out. That’s why the pawn shop hits hard.
Carey Mulligan casting was perfect af.
no, take off the "af" it was not needed....learn how to speak
Well.. It's just like your opinion man
Irene was originally a latino women in the book.
@Blundergat oscar issac was PERFECT 🤩
No it wasn’t, I think Tessa Thompson would have been terrific
Love how the Director kept cutting back and forth between her at the party and Gosling. While the words of the song kept playing out. Showed that she really cared for Gosling. Not even her husband so much. Great movie. The Director’s best work.
its not like she didnt care for her husband or was thinking about gosling during that. its more of complex reflection on her life. and a mix of her wanting to give her husband fair chances and wanting him and the family to be happy as well as nurturing a feeling for gosling. Thats kind of is mark of a compassionate person like her character
My favourite scene on Drive. Everything about it is beautiful.
Standard is a good guy
Oscar Isaac is FANTASTIC in this scene
And if you notice the set peices in the film have a character within themselves the driver's apartment is damp and cold and abandoned and the need for someone and Irene's room is very tacking and warm feeling in mixed directions in witch her life has taken her and the walls in the building symbolize the gap for their feelings for each other
My favourite scene as well. It really stood out to me when I watched it. Perfect tune.
Don't say "tune"
Having a bad day, friend?
Anyone who says that Oscar is a bad actor (shockingly enough there are a few out there) needs to watch this film and then watch any other performance of his.
He does such an amazing job at playing the kind of guy you just feel dirty for even being around, like you just wanna take a shower after even talking to him. he does it without overdramatizing, he does it without cliches, he does it with subtlety and menace and it leaves you with the creepiest feeling ever. Definite proof he's one of the best actors ever, period.
Scott Baldwin is this the actor for standard?
Yes
I think the best thing about this movie is the trick NWF plays on us. We end up rooting for the Driver (just like Irene does) even though he is a violent criminal - a murderer and a robber in fact.
While he may not have robbed in the sense of entering premises and taking things, he was the getaway driver, and part of his payout is funded by the robbery anyway. That makes him just as culpable as the people who hire him.
As for the murders, in some sense we find this justifiable because he murders murderers, but what difference does it make?
It;s thus really a bit odd that Irene would fall for him over so little - helping with groceries and playing with Benicio - given that it seems that Standard basically does what the Driver did - he seems caring toward Benicio, and he took out the trash - the primary difference being that Standard got caught and was sent to prison.
he actually became more mainstream after this film. star wars and xmen
he does not play a dirty guy. he plays a normal guy that made the wrong choice.
Not that I wasn't already enjoying it but for me the movie doesn't really begin until Standard comes home. Starting with this scene right here.
This scene was really beautiful. Under You Spell, by Desire is also fantastic. Amd how the volume changes through the scene
One of the best yet saddest scene is right there after this video ended. “I wish you would” is just 💔💔💔💔💔
Someway I knew I'd find this on CZcams with everyone thinking it's their favourite part of the movie. I loved this scene, pure cinema.
Refn's use of music is so perfect. take the music out of this scene and it's over, it breaks down
NealJackMeKC it's a shame this and Bronson are the only movies he's ever made that aren't complete garbage.
Scott Baldwin only god forgives is good once you understand it
Bankable Milk Valhalla Rising and the Pusher trilogy are also a beautifully haunting films.
I enjoyed 'Neon Demon'. Visually it was trance-like in places.
You do realize it's not always the director's choices? Like Nightcall at the beginning wasn't his choice
A quite magnificent speech here from Pep Guardiola.
That tracking shot as the driver is leaving is my favourite shot of the film.
this scene was hair raising
The way they smile at each other.....
Oscar Isaac made me care so much for this character in under 15 seconds
Great soundtrack scene :')
Thats what falling for another person looks like😘
Beautiful, beautiful scene. And yes, Carey Mulligan is fantastic! The music makes! the scene...going from the party music next door, to soundtrack making the point that everyone wants made and Carey's expression so subtly conveys... Mm!
Great soundtrack
I’m still obsessed with this movie
Thanks for uploading :)
Such a great scene!
The intercuting between The Driver and Irene = true love! Along with the emotional song "Under your spell"
Drive is a masterpiece! The best film of 2011 ^^
The BEST scene
Makes me reminisce😭
I just realized this is the pilot, Poe Dameron, from Star Wars Episode VII.
Luis Mendez me 2 I never knew
I like how the light looks like a halo over the drivers head at 1:42
Bacon and cheese has been stuffed into a crust That was the point, it's a little thing called symbolism and you actually got the reference: a circular beam of light above someone's head usually means they are...who can guess it?
LosAngelesKid No shit its symbolism haha
Bacon and cheese has been stuffed into a crust "I like how the light looks like a halo over the drivers head" doesn't actually insinuate that you got it more than it does that you just discovered it...good try though
LosAngelesKid It does not matter what I insinuated at lol. I was saying how i like the fact that its there, that does not mean that I didn't realize its symbolism... good try though
Bacon and cheese have not been stuffed into a crust...good try though ;)
Carey Mulligan is cute :)
My favorite scene especially the music. Very well acted
The beginning part reminded me of when De Niro was tickering and mounting that gun to his forearm in taxi driver
What is the driver working on?
When you have been a strong feeling insade..thinking to your love, have proved isolation...
"I don't eat
I don't sleep
I do nothing but think of you
You keep me under your spell"
"Non mangio
Non dormo
Non faccio niente ma penso a te
Mi tieni sotto il tuo incantesimo."
idk how drive dont w those oscars
One of my favorite movies
What the fuck this was Oscar Isaac how the hell did I not see it.
0:42 I always use this line
Lol
awesome movie
I’d love to be at the party as it’s blaring Desire ‘Under your Spell’.
I drive (I’m literally Ryan Gosling) (Real) (Hero)
That's when she realized she have chosen the wrong guy. 🤣
lol i just realized the driver prefers automatic over standard. jajajajajajasjajajajaj
Didn't even realise Oscar was in this movie and I've watched it multiple times!
The hair & beard changed his entire appearance. With him on moon knight I would’ve never thought they were the same actor
great actor right?
Min 1,37 -1,47 : touch from the distance ... Love Will tears us apart
real human bean
Funny... Cause there's a scene in Blade Runner 2049 where we can clearly see a halo in his head as well. Coincidence? Maybe.
Crazy. opening carchsse is my favorite still tho e
❤
Bee cool.
Forgot Oscar Isaac was in this.
*Sigh* A friend suggested me this movie cause she know I like Oscar Isaac but didn’t tell me about his character fate so I feel kinda robbed right now, less than five minutes to show him as an interesting and very likeable character and as soon as appears he dies, oh I hate this, anyway Oscar did it great here.
He really makes a strong impression. People remember him being in the film for longer than he is. I can see why this led to bigger things for him, like Inside Llewyn Davis and A Most Violent Year.
Standard is Apocalypse in x-men
Wonderful movie. In this era of streaming services and super heroes (Batman meets Spiderman, The Final Beginning), this type of movie doesn't have a chance. We are all just a little worse off because of this.
this actor who plays standard is actually apocalypse in x-men
He's "actually" Oscar Isaac, an exceptional actor.
He’s also Poe Dameron from Star Wars and Nathan from Ex Machina
standard is the actor who plays apocalypse in x-men
We don't talk about that movie here....
we are humans
we live in a society
*we are human beans
what was he doing to that carburetor??? and why not work on it at the garage? why talk it home? and was it a edlebrock carburetor???
Project Rust Bucket not sure if it's an edelbrock but i also asked myself why he takes that thing home
Almost looks like a street demon....
Te amo benesuela
1:22 harina pan
what´s the music?
Desire - Under Your Spell
One thing i didn’t understand about this movie, why’d they name the character Standard? Was it a joke? Were they trolling? They certainly didn’t indicate it was some sort of nickname. Standard. I don’t get it.
🙂👍

@@haydengallina5554 A man of mercy
_LITERALLY ME 😎 YEAH ⚡_
Ryan Gosling is a better actor. Just saying.
Lol I showed this movie to my friend and she was so ANGRY that Standard came back and I just lost it when she started yelling at Irene for “staying with a four when you could have a nine!” Also, that unbuttoned shirt at 1:30 tho.... that there is a beautiful man. Just sayin’.
Kız çok güzel be😊
