The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - My Best Gwent Game Ever! (Skellige) 'Killed It' Trophy

  • Can you say Three-Hundred-Fifty-Five? (355 in one round! Holy crap Batman!)
    The play location is a settlement in Skellige, I forget exactly where though.
    So yeah, this is my highest point match and round thus far in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. If you are a gwent aficionado, or are curious as to what this mini-game actually is, I hope you enjoy this video!
    ---
    "Invented by dwarves and perfected over centuries of tavern table play, Gwent is a game of initial simplicity and ultimate depth, something beloved by both road-weary travellers during long nights around the campfire and elegant nobles looking to liven up dragging dinner parties."
    Gwent is a fast-paced card game that can be played within The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt on every platform.
    The game is about the clash of two armies locked in mortal struggle on a battlefield where the players are the leaders and the cards their forces. With four different factions offering unique combat styles and endless paths to victory, Gwent is every adventurer’s first choice when it comes to one-on-one card-based dueling.
    Take risks and think on your feet, strategize and deliver cunning combos, use potent magic and mighty hero cards and be the last one standing on the field of honor!
    On June 15, 2016 CD Projekt anounced the development of a stand-alone Gwent: The Witcher Card Game. GWENT will be available at release for Xbox One, PC and PlayStation 4 as a free to play game that puts you, not your cards, in the center of the action.
    There are five "sets" or decks of cards; the Northern Kingdoms, Nilfgaardian Empire, Scoia'tael and Monster decks come with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt while the Skellige deck comes with the Blood and Wine DLC. You choose one of these to play with provided the found set has at least 22 cards. Each faction set includes unique cards and leaders. All five factions, when chosen as active deck, provide a different bonus during the Gwent match:
    - Nilfgaardian Empire: Wins any round ending in draw. Has mainly single, strong cards spread between the three rows, multiple Heroes and a lot of Spies.
    - Northern Kingdoms: Grants an extra card upon winning round. Has the largest collection of Tight Bond cards that multiply each other's strength, generally favours Siege units.
    - Scoia'tael: Decides who takes first turn. Has a number of Muster cards and the largest number of cards with Agility that lets them be placed in either the Melee or Ranged rows.
    - Monsters: Keeps random Unit Card out after each round. Has the largest number of Muster cards to swarm opponents, heavily favours Melee units.
    - Skellige: 2 random cards from the graveyard are placed on the battlefield at the start of the third round.
    ---
    The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt[a] is an open world action role-playing video game developed by CD Projekt RED. Announced in February 2013, it was released worldwide for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on 19 May 2015. The game is the third in the series, preceded by The Witcher and The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, which are based on the series of fantasy novels by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski.
    Played in a third-person perspective, players control protagonist Geralt of Rivia, a monster hunter known as a witcher, who sets out on a long journey through the Northern Kingdoms. In the game, players battle against the world's many dangers using swords and magic, while interacting with non-player characters and completing side quests and main missions to progress through the story. The game was met with critical acclaim and was a financial success, selling over 6 million copies in six weeks. The game won multiple Game of the Year awards from various gaming publications, critics, and game award shows, including the Golden Joystick Awards, The Game Awards, Game Developers Choice Awards, and SXSW Gaming Awards. Two critically successful expansion packs were released for the game, titled Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine.

    Note: This was played before certain patches, so there were at one point, 5 total Blue Stripes Commando cards in the game. I believe I was playing one of the early patches for Witcher 3 that took out one of the Blue Stripes Commandos leaving 4 in the game. Normally, there should never be more than 3 of any card type in the game, and with later patches, this was addressed. So the only way to get 5 Blue Stripes Commandos would be to have a copy of Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (NOT the GOTY version) and then make sure you don't have the patched game and disconnect from the internet. Play the game until you've collected all the gwent cards, then you can connect to the internet and update (I think) and still retain the cards in your deck. In this instance, if you want the expansions, you'd have to buy them digitally on PS4. I think I'd be crazy enough to do something like that.

      Thank you for that. Witcher 3 is one of those games I would eventually like to play for CZcams, maybe I'll do it sometime in 2020, who knows?? The question I would ask myself is how I would structure it. Would I just run around haphazardly and do random things or focus down quests with the odd exploration afterward for each episode or two? How would I play Gwent, would they be extra episodes, like 1.5's in between main episodes? There's a lot to think about here...

    • @hollyleafwell2118

      @@StoneMonkWisdom maybe you can have like a weekly or twice weekly uploads, with main quests on one day and exploration/side quests/etc on another. You can even have the non-main quests at longer episodes to fit more. Just a suggestion. I just finished my game literally yesterday and even then I still haven't fully explored all of Skellige's points of interest 😂
      I've done all the other maps points of interest and I wanted to explore points of interest before moving on to the main game but I got impatient 😂
      Now I've finished the main game and the DLCs so I guess I'll head back to Skellige and finish those unexplored areas

      @@StoneMonkWisdom I pick Yen 98% of the time. I've only picked Triss once I think, out of curiosity. Yen's a bitch I admit but idk I find Geralt and Yen's interactions to sound and feel more organic. Sometimes Geralt looks downright awkward around Triss to me. But this is all my own preference.
      I've played it on sword and story mostly because I really do want the story without the frustration of combat. One of my favourite activities in the game is going around on Roach and finding random quests and/or Gwent players 😂

      First time booting up Witcher 3, I start the game on Death March.
      Best and scariest decision I made in the game. Learning to dodge in the tutorial battle at the very start took a couple tries, then the level 3-4 Drowners in White Orchard started killing me. I learned a lot after twenty-something game overs.

    My best game was against Sasha at the Passiflora, score 2-1, won the third game (which was full of damn Scorch, lots of spies and f* weather cards) because Nilfgaard wins when there's a tie. Had a smile on my face for days.

    • @StoneMonkWisdom
      @StoneMonkWisdom  Před 4 lety +2

      Yeah, I always have a distaste for when my opponent uses a Scorch card, and I loathe when it gets used 2 or 3 times against me. Weather cards also aggravate me in this game, but not as much as Scorch. Sasha is quite formidable at the Passiflora Gwent Tournament and having spies and decoys becomes a must which prolongs the match, but also kinda makes it all the more exciting.

    • @hollyleafwell2118
      @hollyleafwell2118 Před 4 lety +3

      I still think Sasha was my hardest opponent to beat. Idk if I was just having really bad cards but she was _difficult_

    • @StoneMonkWisdom
      @StoneMonkWisdom  Před 4 lety +2

      One of the best cards in the game of Gwent is certainly the Decoy card and any number of Spies provided you also have Revive effect cards. Without Decoy, and a couple Revive, Sasha can be a lot tougher to handle. Even though she retaliates with Decoy as well and her own spies.
