Arteta inherited a squad that had Mustafi, Sokratis and Guendouzi. Ten Hag inherited a squad that had Varane, Sancho and Ronaldo. That just sums it up really.

The amount of money ten Hag has spent is a false equivalency. Theres a reason we’ve sacked everyone involved in sanctioning those purchases.
People forget that antony and Casemiro signed on the last week of the window when the glazers sanctioned panic buys due to missing out on so many targets and losing the opening two games. Whilst ten hag sanctioned the signing of those players he didnt decide the fee and that late in the window having missed so many targets was basically faced with them or nothing.
The second season they bought early to make up for the failure of the first window. The club didnt want to miss out on hojlund knowing the striker market was barren and there was competition for Mount. The idea was always to sell Martial, Maguire and McTominay and use the funds to get the senior striker, midfielder, centre backs and full backs we needed. But once again the club failed to make sales and ten hag was left with a back line that cant play his football.
Hes made plenty of mistakes and Im not confident hes a good enough manager to turn it around. But the failure in the transfer window is on the club more than on him.

I disagree when people say ETH doesn’t have a style of play. He actually does - play out from the back with players who can’t do it. Give the ball away needlessly. Have big gaps in midfield.
Wingers who can’t cross or pass to hojlund. Concede from cutbacks regularly. Don’t mark from corners. Don’t mark from short corners. Let people run past us. Don’t tackle. So he does have one!

Regardless of what happens for the rest of the season Manchester United need to change at least the starting 11. They have too many injury prone, weak mentality and overshielded players. On top of that they get paid too much and that is why they don't feel like they have to perform every game, because they think the club doesn't have the balls to get rid of them. As for ETH play a couple of Academy players that have the hunger to run after every ball with a define style of play.

There are comparisons between the club's and their situations, like Arteta and Arsenal, whoever takes control of Manchester United next season, they will have to be absolutely ruthless in culling failing players on huge wages.
What has been positive is that the new bosses have started to bring in new sporting and technical directors to start the process from scratch, which is what needs to happen at United.
The next step is to bring in younger players from around the World, as well as using home grown young players, and develop them together into a team for the future.
If the club choose to keep Ten Hag and give him time to take on this process is another difficult decision that the board and sporting directors will have to take.
The thing is, in my opinion......... too much has gone on between Ten Hag and the current squad, they don't seem to buy into his plans and process and this could continue so, if it was my decision to make, I'd look elsewhere.
The 2 managers name's that are constantly being thrown out there are Potter and Southgate, these might not excite their supporters but they could be the perfect managers to stop the rot, steady the ship and start developing a young team. They could bridge the gap between now and a point where the team is ready for a top quality manager.
The wildcard is Tuchel......... if it was The Arsenal and the 3 names were in the mix, I'd go for the German.

Liverpool had worse injuries like season but managed to finish 5th because of Klopp....He sold hendo, fabinho, keita, milner..Revamped the whole midfield and still finished 3rd with a carabao cup...Ten hag needs to tweak his tactics, get the players to play his pattern of football & inprove his talent ID...As for arteta who is a low budget pep, he will go bald before winning the epl as long as pep is still around...

James waffling at the beginning. No one has ever seen what Poch has been doing at Chelsea so why is he getting a pass? Because they’ve had a handful of games they’ve played well in but battered for 3/4 the season. Because you can say Manchester United have also had spells during the season where it looks like they’re going to get going even with more injuries.

The situation at United is very similar to Arsenal’s 4 years ago and it’s going to take a large investment of time and money from the board to fix.
United currently have a squad that looks mostly uncoachable on swollen wages who would be undesirable by clubs. So to rectify that they’d have to either wait contracts out or buy players out of their contracts.
Then they’d have to start a fresh with some names that don’t excite them but are steady and would play for the badge at least. From there it’s a case of slowly sprinkling in better players until the squad is where they’d want it to be.

There's nothing to learn. The manager dictates the fortunes of a football club. Arteta was a shot in the dark and Arsenal hit on him, but he still needs to win a major trophy. It's Pep's era right now. United need to find the right man for the job, if they believe it's Ten Hag then back him, if not then get rid and find someone else.

    • @joshuakiio438
      @joshuakiio438 Před 16 dny +1

There's always something to learn, both clubs fell from grace so they needed to get back to challenging again, Arsenal have done that using a blueprint that United could copy. Arteta's first job was to mend a broken relationship with the supporters, he went about that, then the recruitment strategy changed from the second season, going for young but experienced players. He always took the blame on himself, he said 'my chest is here, hit me guys'. And for a first job he's challenging Pep and Klopp, that by itself is remarkable unless of course you are all about trophies and no process!
