"Last time I saw Sam Tyler he disappeared in a blue police box, claiming he was The Master."
Still another moron who suffers from delusions of humor.
and he changed his name to Harold Saxon and became Prime Minister.
He has gone to talk cod shit to strangers
xDDDD
Oh yeah and he was all like I will kill everyone
I've said this before, but for me personally, Ashes and Mars will never end until Gene goes to the pub. I would love one big final movie where they all get to come back and help Gene with one last case and then they all return to the pub for the final time, THEN it will have come to a satisfactory end.
There is talk of a new series. 'Lets Dance'. See if it comes off.
That's kind of his arc though, as a character. He never got to be what he wanted or become who he should've been in real life. But in death he has, by being a guide to those just like him. Everyone else had their own issues but they were all relating to the lives they'd led, not the ones they'd be robbed of.
Good news for you then because they're doing another life on mars ....the story leading upto Sam's death....just thought I'd share that info to ya.
@@deborahrogers5054 Wow! I'd love that, if it were true!
Soon my friend soon. We can go for a pint
No. Sam died after he jumped off the roof, lived 7 years in Coppers Purgatory aka Gene Hunts world, relative to the 1 in the real world. In the end, he wanted to go onto the PROPER Heaven, but needed to fake his death in Gene Hunts world to help maintain the illusion that they were in the real world.
This might be speculation on my part but when Sam was out of his coma, he may have done some digging about, learned that the people he met WEREN'T just figments of his imagination, theyd been alive
why did he need to fake his own death in order to go to the pub, presumably with annie? i don't get that at all.
+glassineheart I think to maintain the illusion for everyone else. The others have forgotten that they're dead, and it's not his place to remind them. But obviously they'll ask questions about where he is, so he faked his death to disappear without upsetting things.
RainAndKisses hey, hi there, and thanks for chiming in! i never really expected an answer!
this was one of the only things that i didn't quite like about a2a, it made some of what happened on life on mars a bit more confusing than i wanted it to be.
i still love them both, don't get me wrong. i just hope that sam and annie got to stay with each other. it was bad enough that alex and gene couldn't be.
Sam and Annie moved on together, so it's safe to say they're being awkward and adorable in Heaven. I'm sure Gene will move on and reunite with Alex eventually, I don't think he's accepted his death yet. The main point of Purgatory seems to be letting go of their life to be able to move on eternally (hence Sam working out his internal issues in LoM). Gene obviously hasn't done that just yet, but eventually he will.
The additions in A2A do make things make a bit more sense, like how Sam can't "feel" in the real world because he's basically been dead. I get so annoyed with the theory that Sam's Dad killed Annie in the real world though. IMO Annie is only there because Sam's presence manifests events related to his personal history (this is why he finds his Mum, his Auntie etc) so Annie fills the role of the Policewoman in the red dress. Based on her degree and graduation memories I think it's more likely she died in the late 70s and is the most recent arrival before Sam.
RainAndKisses this is going to sound batty but thanks so much for talking to me; i've always, always hated the fanon that sam's dad killed annie, i find it so incredibly depressing and almost too much to take.
i much prefer your read on things and will cleave to that instead. :)
Being honest, personal opinion here, but i think Ashes to Ashes would have been better if Sam and Annie were still in the show. Sam would be the only person to believe Alex.
Na, I think if Sam was in ATA he should have been like Ray, Shaz and Chris. Having no clue what Alex is on about (It being 10 years since, he would have forgotten everything.)
I would have liked to seem him appear at the end to guide her to the otherside
exactly
Would have ruined the mystery a bit
Then it might as well just be life on mars season 3 at that point
The ending creeped me out but it was so beautifully done
Life on Mars and Ashes to Ashes are some of the best TV that I have ever watched. Thank you.
@oxmys "That's funny. Last time I saw Sam Tyler, he had blonde hair, and was throwing lasers from his hands at a guy who looked like Timothy Dalton and a bunch of other people. David Tennant's face was all cut up, and I could've sworn I saw Wally Bannister from Coronation Street."
It's called "ACTING." Yet another moron who thinks pointing out the obvious makes them clever. Total fail.
TKay Michel It's just a joke, holy shit. Let people have fun.
AHHHHGHHFHGHGH, thereâs rumour that they might be planning another series of Life on Mars?! If so, Iâm totally hyped!!!
What rumours? Pleaseeee
James Richardson Jnr, early April, the writer of Life on Mars (Mathew Graham- search on Twitter) announced that 13 years later they have come up with a story line on Twitter. I donât have Twitter myself however I could access the tweets using the online version. So, if you want to see yourself, search up Matthew Graham on Twitter. They havenât confirmed I donât think as the actors havenât been asked yet but I think itâs quite possible that weâll get a s3 in 2023 maybe? I believe theyâre calling it the Final Chapter. Thereâs also Simulcasts going on (#LifeOnMarsLive) which includes live tweets about the episode being watched, similarly with TV shows like DW and TW. Xxx
Omg they better. I hope annie and sam arent dead thoughđđ...
czcams.com/video/vKtJRjm29Uw/video.html
Carl Woods , I know. Iâve seen this. Thereâs a link on one of Grahamâs tweets :) For all of you non-Bowie fans out there, at the end of the video, the guy says Lazarus which is a story about someone who came back to life after 13 days (I think, quite probably wrong) but thereâs also a song by Bowie called Lazarus, hence forth, the interviewer suggested the next show would be named that.
Oh my God, Philip Glenister's eyes, and lips, and fingers! I think I'm having the biggest crush I've ever had!
Form an orderly queue
Me too. I've got a massive crush on Philip Glenister xx
Fingers ??..sister your strange đ
Yes, he s hot but john simm, tooâ€
That look in his eyes when he looks up at her, realizing what she said at the end. Every time. :D
She has got to be just the upmost beauty.
For ages a lot of people asked what happened to Sam Tyler, yet the opening scene in the very first episode reveals he was still alive in the time period before Alex goes back in time. Watch opening of the first episode where Alex is in the car with her daughter. Alex tells her daughter Sam Tyler is still alive.
No⊠what episode were you watching!!? Molly is literally holding a file on Sam that Alex, (Iâm directly quoting now) says âput the classified documents back now please.â
The one glimpse we have of that file says suicide in big letters and the scene before that shows a shadowy figure on a tall building representing Sam.
DC-... DI Sam Tyler.
Alex: Get your coat, you've pulled.
[romantic music starts to play]
D'AWWW
Shame Ray interrupts them
Sam thought about it, Alex did it.
I've only just realised, why didn't she ask what happened to Annie? Even if she thought she and Sam were the only ones in this situation, as a policewoman she'd have asked what happened to the girlfriend.
Thank youuu!!đ
I think probably because she still believes they're all constructs, and actually knew Sam from when she was in the 21st century :D
Mmm, everybody else was in ashes to ashes from life on mars, except of course Sam Tyler, but what happened to Annie,.?
She went to the Pub alongside Sam. As she had died, most probably from the Vic Tyler incident in the real world
Doccy Stars no in series one episode six she says that on graduating night she got drunk and jumped off of a bridge. This is most likely what killed her and she just doesnât know.
@@alfyc6970 It can't be that cause all the characters (which we know) who died were police officers. And Annie couldn't have been one before or during graduation night.
Kristian not sure then. She does say that. Maybe it was vic. But Sam stopped vic killing her, wouldnât she have just disappeared?
@@alfyc6970 I don't think she would've disappeared, cause the world Gene Hunt and all the other characters are in is not historically accurate. I mean, Gene Hunt was long gone in 1973 or 1982 cause he died in 1953. And after all, Sam has changed history in Gene Hunt's world a few times, for example not showing the court a note a suspect was "seriously disturbed" (not sure who, but I think Edward Kramer, in S01E01). And after that he got a life sentence instead of the 30 years he got in the real world.
Cant beleive they are finally about to get together. x x
i love the way she says "you've pulled" jhgdsdkl
I always squeal like a child at the end moment haha
get your coat you've pulled, haha
It always felt like a cop out that they were hoping John Simm would make a return/cameo throught the series, but he never did.
They just kept the door open in case he ever did. Which is shitty for writing and the viewers.
Be glad you never had to watch the hideous American remake of the first series. Just awful.
Tak Wolf
I got it on DVD, they cover both series in it dude, and make a few extra episodes...
...They just take the "Life on Mars" thing a bit TOO literal.
Tak Wolf I'm still tempted to watch it out of curiosity lol
Stewart Damien
Better you than me.
Larry Bundy Jr The writers said the reason he didn't return is because they didn't want it to take away from the character of Alex. Keeley Hawes did so such a great job playing a strong character for 3 seasons that to bring Sam back, even for just a few seconds at the end, would steal all the glory
and be the only thing fans remembered. John Simm therefore wasn't ever even asked to appear and I've read him say he thinks the ending the way they did it was the best way to do it.
Beautiful.
Life is brutal short and totally unfair.
Gene was the only hope in a world of endless pain.
Phil.
Life on Mars 3 is coming!!!
They must of known of the possibility even back when this was filmed. This scene opens the door for Sam Trlyer's possible return.
She is so beautifulđ
Sam had reached the end of his journey and wanted to move on.
Thrust back into actual life & modern policing Sam Tyler didn't like it one bit. So he jumped off the roof of the police station. The rough 1970's world of policing had become more exciting. Gene Hunt, the birds, the blags and The Pub. Plus getting to lock a semi-naked villain in a freezer and not get a disciplinary black mark on his file.
In a nutshell, yes
What happened to Annie?
2019 â€ïž
Try 2020
@@justanaveragegamer8735 try 2021
well, he faked his own death. Had to muster up some sort of disguise. XP
We need another series bring them all together, gene needs to go back to the pub with Gatekeepers Nelson welcoming him and away from Keats
So basically sam tyler had a mr meseeks moment. He'd fulfilled his use helping gene hunt and didnt want to be around anymore. (Mr meeseeks is from rik and morty for those that don't know)
that was DR WHO
Sometimes death isn't.... available yetđ
"Your the feminist you pay half" is even funnier now with how often I hear it online. Gene Hunt 40 years ahead of his time.
Hi gene hunt and Rachel and Lewis
Brilliant Ashes and L. O. M. but the bizarre explanation was an anti climax.
3 great series hope 'Life on Mars' squeal happens
What happens to Vivv
I think he goes to hell. Keats takes him. Chris has a dream of viv being surrounded by fire. Also at his funeral, they zoom in on vivs photo whilst you see the coffin being burnt.
Savi sandhu it was called coppers purgatory somewhere you couldnât die Jim probably tricked him
Keats takes him
Isnât Sam coming back for season 4
The new series is going to be weird. Is going to be titles "Dust to Dust". Sadly not going to be set in the 90s which i was soooooo praying for. But at least Glenister and Simm will reunite. Set to be released on August 2022
Had no idea they were making a new series!!!
@@mekkimaru2365 I've heard it's either "Dust To Dust" or "Lazarus".
@@JadeEyes1 Definitely Lazarus! John posted a photo of himself and Philip on Instagram tagged with that title!
â@enbees222... Where did you see it?
Alex doesn't know trust and faith? Harsh
What happened him ???.
He entered Nelson's "pub"
@oxmys And he went bleach blond for some reason?!?!
Really hate morons who think they're being cute when they mix up an actor's roles. Grow up. We all know Simm went on to play the Master, as well as many other roles. This kind of quip is only cute if you're young & stupid, and still think pink elephant jokes are a laugh riot.
TKay Michel nowadays people would woosh you. Wooooooooooooosh.
I F knew it. I watched life on mars. But tripping where is the rest of it. Gene is ghost handler but i never saw it. Wherex the woman.
Now i know.
Lord above but Keeley Hawes is one absolutely stunning looking woman. đ„”
I think ashes to ashes would have been a great standalone show but it ruined life on mars
A2A doesn't ruin LoM for me. I watched Ashes to Ashes once and probably forgot its convoluted cluster ef. Life on Mars ended after 16 perfect episodes.
Personally I dislike the afterlife stuff they used in Ashes to Ashes. I always considered that somehow Sam was both back in 1973 *and* in a coma in 2005. There were a couple of tidbits that hinted strongly at this in the show.
@@thefurrybastard1964 I think the fall killed Sam. But in his seconds of life he could have lived for years in the past. Who really knows. But the ending was brilliant. It's still considered among the best finales ever.
@@Kilmer5 Agreed, and that's another reason why not to have made Ashes to Ashes.
I treat both shows as the same show, itâs a natural continuation
I loved life on mars and hated ashes to ashes work that one out because i can't
What do you mean it's all been explained and ashes to ashes is top tier show like with life on mars
@@al3xgames790 i didn't say ashes was bad its just life on mars was far better
How much of A2A did you watch?
@@someadam6666 2 episodes they reminded me of old dempsey and makepiece episodes
@@richardbrabbs8283 understand that change of the main character is difficult, but really, how can you just let go any content with Gene Hunt, A2A starts kinda slowly, but it gets better, especialy S2 and S3. I also almost haven't gave it chance, i get it, but every Lom fan need to watch it eventually
was it ever EXPLAINED why sam had to fake his own death ? yeah he couldn't last there because he died in the real world but why fakeing his own death ? He could have just travelled away? omg lol ridiculous
So the other dead cops wouldnât find out about their situation just yet.... Sam must of realized what this world was (or Gene told him upfront post finale). He wanted to move on (maybe cuz he was ready....)
GLBizzie your ridiculous for now understanding đđ
@@adamking4538 Iâm sorry I was like 15 at that time. I was too young to fully understand. Deeply sorry, mate
hahaha
i thought the last episode of life on mars, where he wakes from near death and decides the real world is crap coz everything's gone to shit for him and he kills himself, essentially, that's what happens. sends a bad message.
But I loved it.. not everything has to be a big happy ending. Thatâs not real life.
@@GLBizzie Amen to that.
Did he really wake up, though? I think he didn't actually wake per say. I think like Alex, he died in hospital believing he woke up. I could be wrong but him jumping off the building wasn't really his character.
@@Fatty2-sj8vr I think you are right about this. Listen to the conversation he has with his mother about not feeling anything when you are dead. And the advice he receives from his mother about how he always keeps his promises. The first time I watched that scene, I thought to myself that he was already dead and that he had died in Hyde Ward 2612. The other clue was the way that Frank Morgan, his surgeon, looked back at Sam as he exited the hospital room.
@karmicselling4252 Yes, I was meant to add that. The conversation they had was rather cryptic and vague, but sincere like he knew but was somehow in denial, and I think even his mother potentially passed away also during or after he had died.
They should have came up with a better ending to Ashes. Failing that, just kept us guessing. The ending really let down a superb programme.
Nah it was a great but tragic ending
I DARE the BBC to set a 1990's officer in the modern rainbow -dominated, J.K.Rowling -cancelled, post-Brexit Birmingham.
Some think this is purgatory boot camp. Very few make it out
