Maybe Isabelle shouldn't have acted like she did, but the fact that everyone got so mad about that shows that she is an amazing actress and can truly portray her character, capturing the feelings the director wanted her too. I think she's awesome!
She had every right, me being the oldest I know how she feels being ignored because a new younger siblings takes the attention. Also her father was in the military the father figure is crucial for daughters and sons both and the only way she could get attention was by disturbance or annoying them. Its hard to explain but I hope you understand.
From the minute Sam (Tobey) *softly* says to Isabelle, "stop playing with your cake" you felt like you were watching an elastic band being stretched and you're cringing and waiting on it to pop and sting you. chilling scene man.
Bailee’s character represents how hurt, angry and jealous children can feel when a parent is deployed and absent for a while and missing out on things. Especially when it was her birthday her father wasn’t there but came home for her sisters so obviously she has a reason to feel hurt. With her uncle she saw more of a father in him later and even when she first met her when her dad walked in to greet her after returning home and she refused to hug and kiss him because she was angry that he was leaving again and felt loss of connection to him due to his constant absences Her emotions really show how difficult it is to have a parent absent and feeling favoritism if he came home for his youngest birthday but not hers. She has a reason to be angry and act out like that. Bailee did such a powerful job in this film
She did amazing, but what pisses me off is that when people watch this movie, is that they think she's telling the truth here. People think Grace slept with Tommy even though this was just a lie from Isabelle to "get back" at her dad. People have the gall to call Grace a cheater when she did nothing wrong.
Imagine how a man would feel after risking his own ass for his family and country, brutally killing his own comrade just to see his family again and then coming home to terrible vibes between his wife, brother and daughter. I know you have a good point, but the father is the one who is suffering on an unimaginable level. The pain the child feels compared to her father is, and i mean this, literally nothing.......
@@henrry889 And that’s part of the issue right there: comparing one’s pain to the other as a way to minimize. That never works. It only creates bigger issues. And how is his family supposed to know what he did if he’s not communicating with them, which he wasn’t until it was too late? They weren’t there with him. They didn’t see it. To my remembrance, he never told them because it was too much for him to say. The bottom line here is this entire family needs therapy. The children need therapy, and the adults need therapy.
I think what everyone is forgetting is that Isabel holds resentment towards her dad for a reason, and it’s not because she wants to. It’s shown that they have used her dad as an reason for things, such as her not getting a birthday party or many other things. That sort of thing can lead to resentment, and that’s probably what Isabel feels towards her dad. She feels like the reason she’s not getting the equal amount of attention/treatment is because of her dad. You can also tell she feels extremely ignored by her family. The way she tears up after she has an outburst, and then goes directly to the balloon shows she felt like no one was listening. Then when she started talking about maggy getting this, or that, or how maggy gets everything she wants but she doesn’t. Shows that Isabel thinks there’s favoritism, which also sends her to resenting her father once again because she blames him. Isabel’s emotional outburst is a cry for help. She’s obviously hindering a lot of anger, and resentment towards her father. She doesn’t understand why things are the way they are, and she thinks it’s unfair. While yes, she shouldn’t be saying those things to her own dad; she doesn’t know how else to express her anger. She’s angry at the world, she’s angry at the way things are. But most importantly she doesn’t understand because she’s a kid. And it seems that no one is bothering to explain it to her either. It seems like they rather have her sit down, and shut up which is causing Isabel to feel ignored and bottling things up. She’s just a kid who feels ignored, and is hindering resentment towards someone that she believes is the problem when really he’s not. But no one else is bothering to explain to her that, so it stays there.
Its still her fault that her dad fell off the deep end, adding salt to the wound in his PTSD, getting arrested and institutionalized and the mother is too soft to call her out on those horrible words she said. Not to mention the mother is no better by using emotional blackmail to leave the father if he doesn't say what happened.
Shows that either some really don't get people's behaviors or they hold themselves to such a high degree of behaviour that they project it onto others.
@@Disneyfan82 Her father was already on the verge of going off the deep end. If Isabel didn’t say what she said, something else would have caused his outburst.

@anna♡ maybe because of the awkwardness. I know that would be rude but i remember one time an arguement happened during a family gathering and i wanted to laugh so bad.
@@haleymone That is the point, they have no idea what he went through at this point in the movie. The child hurting feels abandoned by her father, too young to understand the real reason why. This scene, and maybe the whole movie makes me angry (I don't know because I haven't seen it) because I am so sick and tired of the whole "you're never there for me", "you're always working and never spending time with your family" trope... It turns out that she made it up to get back at her father for not being there on her birthday, which he wasn't able to be at due to him being deployed in Afghanistan. When he was presumed KIA, the mother only kissed his brother once and that was it. But, it was due to his PTSD that caused Sam to yell at Isabelle.
I'd course, these are just my outsider thoughts. The mom saw Isabelle and her husband were uncomfortable. She kept looking back between both him and her. It was obvious. I can't imagine the pain of hearing your own daughter say that to you.
Peter Parker: Stop playing with your cake
Isabel: I'll stop playing with my cake when you fix this damn door!
Peter Parker: "You stole my words"
This little girl can act I don’t care what anyone says. She made that entire scene
One of the few kid actors I didn’t hate while watching a movie. She was amazing in this!
It's amazing how kids can act like this. That felt real, you could see the pain in her face
lol Jake are watching her all the time, and his face were like "oh no you don't" the whole time.
I noticed that too 😆 he didn't finish eating .
2:53- that's it if i speak like that to my father my mom would smack the shit out of me right at that moment.
“I didn’t get anything I wanted for my birthday”
Peter Parker: “Look at little Isabelle, you gonna cry?”
Tobey and Bailee are frickin' amazing in this movie.
Brilliant acting and directing here.
Everyone acting like they’re NOT solely focused on the girl.
That elephant in the room tension.
You can feel the tension in this scene
i love how jane foster, mysterio and spiderman are all in the same room
I really loved this scene. This was one of most powerful movies iv ever seen in my life!! This movie needs a Oscar!!
Toby exhibits exceptional acting in this movie I must say
“Couldn’t you have just stayed dead?”
You’ll get your dead dad once you fix this damn door!
lol, gave me a good chuckle
The movie is so good yet so sad.
spider man, spider man, pops balloons all over the land
Isabelle deserve an Oscar for this scene
this is the second best roll tobey maguire has played(first one is spiderman)
Francisco Sanchez second and only role besides Spider-Man lol (oh and that horse movie)
@@MartyMcFly88 Pleasantville was a good one for him.
@@MartyMcFly88 Seabiscuit
Eh i love all of his spiderman movies but i gotta admit, his acting really wasnt anything special in those
@@jobydobe1567 didn't have to be to make it good.
She feels neglect from her father so she’s acting out cause she wants attention from her father I understand how she feels
Peter Parker : "Oh, look at little Goblin Jr. Gonna cry?"
Mumble Rappers:
I’m About To End Eminem's Career.

Daddy > Gifts
Daddy > Someone else love
never thought that a girl that young can do such good acting
She was 10 at the time.of course she knew what sex was....
Bailee is extremely talented!!
True
This is tension worthy of Quentin Tarantino. I shifted in my seat while watching this.
4:30 LOL he's like "wtf did you just snitch on me for?!?!?!" LMAOOOOOO
Bailey is an AMAZING actress! One of my ALL time faves, and I'm in my 50s!
I love that little moment in the scene from 3:05-3:10. That stare that Isabelle gives the adults is so heart wrenching. She’s hurting and feels like no one cares. I think that’s why she grabbed the balloon. She just wanted to be heard 😢
That little girl make me emotional...damn good acting...
why is everyone saying she’s a brat? lol she had every right to do what she did as a kid. nobody ever thinks that the kid is hurting or even thinks.
Stop playing with your cake
Ill stop playing with my cake when you fix this damn door!
"And how's nursing been for you, Tina?"
"It's been a challenge, my stepdad actually encouraged me."
Tommy using this girl to appear unattached from the rest of the family really backfired big time.
That awkward moment when..
"COULDN'T YOU STAY DEAD?!!!"
Heartbreaking line.
I seriously do not know how I would have taken that!! Mentally? No
Handled it? yes!! It would not be the way Tobey did!! I am very thankful that I never dealt with that!!
Spider-Man:regrets coming home
Great acting from everyone on the dinner table👏👏👏
Her face said it all before she spoke a word! That child was fed tf up.😩
2:28 she could’ve let Isabelle play with the toy cat since she already had a doll to play with.
Yes! I let my little sisters play with my shit all the time. As long as they put it back and not break it idgaf if they play with it 🤣
This movie was amazing and proved to my ex that Maguire is an insanely good actor
