- While technically this video is my “opinion” because art is subjective, this is a ranking based on what I think is the best, not what I personally like most.
That being said, I have my own biases and you’ll probably disagree with me.
I would like to open up a civil discussion in the comments about your thoughts. Feel free to ask me about my justifications or just general questions about Starkid, set design, or anything else. For this video, I am looking at the effectiveness of the sets in the context of the show. Some things I considered:
1) How well they use the space they have
2) How the sets are integrated into the show
3) How they fit with the design and feel of the rest of the show

YES a ranking video where Starship unarguably deserves 1st place
I'm a little surprised firebringer wasnt just a little bit higher because of the shadow puppet work during "the night belongs to snarl" through the backwall. I think that counts as set ? Totally agree with number 1 tho. The main door of the ship in starship is a great set. Especially when it goes see through for bug's big death scene.
I think think the puppets themselves aren't part of the sets, more of a use of the sets. But either way it's very cleverly designed, I don't know why I didn't include it in the montage. And yes! the transparent door is brilliant!
The tinsel and lights becoming wiggly is objectively the best individual set moment

YES everyone keeps sleeping on the starship set 😔 it may not "objectively" be the best starkid show, but you have to admit that the set, cut outs, puppets, etc are all very impressive!
the design overall is just great. Same with holy musical b@man. Very cohesive and goes so well with the vibe of the show.

I really like the AVPS set because it’s the cover of the first Harry Potter book, which I think is super cool! This ranking is great, it always makes me happy to see Starship and HMB get some love.

Yayy for HMB and Starship being so high, love those musicals soo much.I know it's TCB, but the chase scene in One Step Ahead will always be the pinnacle of theatre for me XD

Surprised to not have Black Friday n°1, the set was the best thing in the show.
I think the Black Friday sets were great, but besides the tinsel to wiggly transformation (which was brilliant) they weren't utilized as well as they could have been.

Honestly, i think besides using the tinsel to turn into wiggly (which was genius) black friday's sets werent that innovative of cohesive compared to starship or hmb
I agree with most of these, but I don't think HMB should have been ranked very high. The set is a barely used and doesn't serve a large part in the show (it's mostly characters sitting and the planets at the end), and while the planets are great the stage is empty of sets for most of the time, the space isn't particularly well used, and the chairs don't add a lot to the show.
The reason I mainly put it so high is that I think the design is just so in line the tone they were going for and very cohesive with the costumes of creating that comic book feel.
