  • In this video, I talk about how anime games were awesome alternatives to watching anime just from gameplay, story modes and bosses alone. However, that has changed with recent lazy development and cash grab techniques. Enjoy and let me know what you think!

The problem is probably that the publishers are treating these games as quick cash grabs rather than letting the developers really go all out with them. I can bet that the goal of Connections was to be as cheap of a turn around as possible by reusing Storm 4's assets because that's what Bandai Namco wanted more than probably what CC2 wanted to do. Keep in mind it's been 7 years since Storm 4 and Bandai Namco is a heck of a lot greedier now than they were back then. I don't know if the inevitable Storm 5 is going to follow in the same footsteps as Connections or if they're going to let CC2 go all out with it because it's a numbered game.
Personally I wish Bandai Namco or any other publisher for CC2 would let them to take another crack at another original interactive anime like Asura's Wrath, and potentially make it into a 2 to 3 game series much like they're currently doing with their Fuga series. The problem is that as popular as CC2's anime games are, Storm 4 selling 11 million units, none of their original games get anywhere near that, Asura's Wrath selling 180,000 units and the .hack G.U. remaster selling 300,000.
So this idea would probably be a completely idiotic gamble for any publisher to do with them nowadays. Then again they are leaning kind of heavily on gamepass with their Fuga series and getting some success there so this idea could work out at some point in the future. I can see them eventually self publishing a project like this themselves, but it probably isn't going to look as good as the Naruto games or Asura's Wrath did. It will also most likely see similar results to what they've been getting with their other original games as well. Oh well that's kind of the nature of this studio's original games unfortunately.

Dragon Ball (Xenoverse 2, Fighterz, Kakarot)
Naruto (Storm 2-4) Are the only good ones to come out in recent years. Every other anime just doesn’t have the quality or the demand like these two series.

Honestly the storm series peaked at 3 while I enjoy storm 4 this is where the problems started to show and connections made it even worse.

I agree! 3 was really the last of the goated formula and 4 is when it started to fall a little bit, but not completely

Between all of the Storm games, I’d say that Storm 2 and Storm 3 were the best. Storm 2 had the best overall era of the anime to go off of and had the best boss battles in terms of gameplay design. Storm 3 had the best execution of the story with its cutscenes and arguably had the best challenge. In terms of quick time events, I think that I like both games equally. Storm 2 and 3’s quick time events were fun because of the challenge of getting the secret factors, and the fact that you can truly fail the QTEs. Storm 2’s QTEs can get challenging at times with knowing what buttons to press, which encourages replay-ability. Storm 3’s QTEs were not as challenging as Storm 2 in terms of knowing the button prompts, but they introduced something new that makes these boss battles at least just as fun and challenging as Storm 2’s, which is that not every QTE will increase your health. In Storm 2, you can be down to less than 50% of your health but still get an S-rank because of the QTEs increasing your health back up to 100% or slightly less. In Storm 3, you have to worry more about your health not only to survive but to get an S-rank in boss battles like Naruto vs. Tobi.
CC2 really tarnished their reputation as game developers. At this point, only the visuals with their cinematic cutscenes have been exceptional. They can’t make good and fun gameplay anymore. I definitely think that Dragon Ball Z Kakarot is either a mid or below average game because the gameplay is very tedious, boring, and just not all that fun. Also, that game tarnished the Android/Cell Saga (my favorite arc in all of Dragon Ball) because of CC2 not making certain moments get the cinematic treatment, and also them just flat-out skipping content like Final Flash Vegeta, Buff Trunks, Instant Transmission Kamehameha Goku, and Stationary Kamehameha Gohan.

I'm still pissed that you have developers thinking its okay for anime games to not have local play options. Tenkaichi 4 and jujutsu kaisen cursed clash are gonna be online only which is a travesty for playing with friends and lack of a tournament scene. People seem to forget or are willfuly ignorant that not all friend groups are gonna have the same games and consoles. Local play is a must fir anime fighters.
