I’m amazed the phone survived 😂
The anxiety was real
I see this totally going wild with 2 motors behind him out sideways mounted on a back sidearm.
Also a front sidearm, both connected to long waterflow-streamy kajak stabilizers, fronts high enough to not break in the water!
Loving this project again, like all you guys do! 🙂
Please make this a reality, I want to see it happen!
@@MarvinWestmaas
Yes! Love to see this!
They make rudder kits for Kayaks. Y’all need to get your hands on one. Will make round two MUCH easier. Maybe even a two person kayak where you can move the motor farther back.
Great video. An important technical note on boat hull design. If a boat doesn't hydroplane, and I doubt a kayak will, it will be limited to its maximum velocity as determined by the Froude number. To cut to the chase, there comes a point where no matter how much more power you put into the boat, it won't go any faster.
hydrofoils!!!
/me takes notes
I would attach two of the thrusters (maybe a bit smaller) to the side arms left and right. So the body of the "driver" is not blocking the airflow and you should be able to stear with differential control. Okay, should have watched the video to the end before commenting - lol
David is such a talented, mechanically minded artist. Now that you guys have proof of concept, a few tweaks to improve performance; sponsons need fiberglassed to lessen drag they're causing. And maybe visit the split intake idea. An actual rudder may be used by Wyle Coyote, Genius 😜
A split intake, looking like the front of an L-39 would give safety for pilot and unobstructed air movement. I was cringing at the thought of the foam giving way and the prop chopping up Josh's shoulders -big sigh of relief when it held together. Please keep safe! 8:35 David mentions a safety screen, Josh replies, "we'll do that very last" way last, after video 🤣🤣🤣
Somewhere there’s a coyote watching this and thinking, “That’s crazy!”. I love this episode! Keep up the great work. I cannot wait to see all of you at FliteFest 2023!
Oh man, Lake mohawk. My family always use to have their family reunion there. Brings back memories. Grew up in Minerva
Now you have said it, you've got to do twin motors. Nice work guys. God bless
As others have said, a kayak has a displacement hull and has a fixed top speed no matter the power. A planing hull will be much, much faster (e.g. try the same set up on a large-size sailboard or small planing yacht)
Yes you can really see the huge bow (displacement) wave created in the camera side shot. This will be virtually impossible to overcome and thus a speed limit is created from the hull design itself.
Please make a Ep2 for this! this was such fun to watch!
That design was hilarious lol
the motor mounts should have airfoil fairings, ideally counters-crew of the prop spin for a little bonus thrust ;)
Let’s go new Flite test vid!!!!!!!!🎉🎉🎉
I cant give this more the one thumbs up and its not fair... please do 2 motors! part 2
also so glad to see stephan back in videos!!! the hype man if i ever saw him!!!!
There is no limit to what you guys are capable of, and I am always here for it!
Let's GOOOO!
Awesome! Just needs holes on the sides ,top and bottom of the inlet for better air supply. Motor definitely needs to pivot too. Seems plenty powerful with one motor. 😉🤘
I think to counter the torque steering you could add a second motor and prop inside the exiting duct set to counter-rotate in a pull-push configuration. You might also consider streamlining the amas (sponsons)
I love this! I was watching the sponsons at one point the front almost went under. Then you go from sponsons to dive planes.
You should have the outriggers amidship then maybe louvers on the back of the motor housing for steering and maybe the housing a little higher for better airflow. Just my opinion
If watching this doesn't put a smile from ear to ear on your face you should go see a doctor, or a shrink, probably both ! That was awesome !! Thank You Flite Test, you rock (da boat) !
Two motors, mounted over the pontoon area with the pontoons bent slightly down for better stabilization, this would be OP AF. Can't wait.
Absolutely fantastic!
I love your channel. Josh reminds me of one of my good friends that is from New Orleans, but has been my neighbor in Florida for the past 20 years. Josh is a bit younger & has more hair than my friend Jeff, but you both make me laugh after a hard day. PJ
Been waiting for the video to drop this morning
I would totally love a round 2, with 2 motors, differential power output and rudders under the motor pods.😂 As always, great video, keep it up. John S.
Love it! How about making a Pod Racer on water? balancing the forces to keep the leading pods from coming together would be an interesting challenge :D
pod racers just use power couplings......easy😆🙂😆
I need to bring my 18' sea kayak up. It has a rudder for better yaw control!
Needs a fog generator right in front of the intake. It won't change the performance but it would look pretty cool.
That was crazy good! I want one!
Now you are ready to Make a proper manned foam Outrigger Hydro like the RC style designs made to haul arse - go faster with more power use a race water aluminum rudder shape to help track perfect and offset for thrust flow aka torque issue. Should be able to hit 24 mph ish. 😎😎
Set up a simple rudder, maybe like one of the old peddle boats, and add a throttle control on board...
Fantastic concept!!!
A displacement hull is going to keep sapping more and more energy, the faster you try to go. Ideally you want to look a planing hull - like a surf kayak (like Mega or Watertech).
Good luck!!
I looked for this comment because you are correct. The hull has an absolute speed limit beyond which more power will only make it sit deeper and NOT go faster. I have 2hp gas engine/fan on a pirogue and I get to max hull speed just past an idle. More power just makes a bigger wake.
@@communitycollegegenius9684 Exactly!! That's why you need the flat hull of a surf kayak, which will eventually lift out of the water and start planing. These kayaks also have fins which will improve stability without having to use the paddle (and thereby add unwanted resistance).
@@Rob-kj3ho And a rudder wouldn't hurt :o)
Can’t wait for round 2
Another Amazing Project
Props look amazing!
You need a much more stable kayak for this, like specifically a Hobie Kayak (Outback would be great). They are actually setup for "sponsons" or outriggers I believe as they call them. They have inflatable ones. They actually sail those kayaks, I have one with the sail and everything. The kayak would weigh a bit more, but it would be a lot more stable and maneuverable as they are even equipped with rudders.
That was insane!
Ok idea for those motors. Could you mount them to a merry go round with a few chairs you can be strapped into and see who can walk straight after riding it
round 2 would be amazing
How can one not click on something so ridiculous and honestly awesome
Definitely need round 2 with 2 fans👍
the half throttle to full throttle issue is the power you need to get over your own bow wake! once you break past that you will get a huge efficiency increase as the boat transitions from displacement to planing.
Need to make the a10 again with this setup 👌
A twin engine with counter rotating props to cancel out torque roll.
It was just as funny driving to the lake with the 'jet engine' "mounted" to the back of the vehicle I'll bet you got a lot of double takes from other drivers.
I did think that the distance between the intake opening and the person's back was too narrow and was probably choking airflow a lot
That’s awesome and even better with 2 motors and a RUDDER
okay this was what I like seeing when you make weird stuff you could use a steering wheel add some plywood to the pontoons to bolted onto the bar make the pontoons longer
That echo when he sayed: „I‘m free“
Now that I saw the end of this video, yes, two motors, but don't be up a creek without a real rudder. Good Luck!
The landspeeder is gonna rock with 3 motors.
where's peter when you need him ....lol😉
Brilliant!! Your Motto "If you can stick an rc motor on it. Do it" then add more.. Love ya work.. from Aust 🦘🦘
Use a skinny but flat Jon boat, lose the outriggers, add a rudder. I'd go with a water rudder, so you can still steer when moving but not under thrust. Oh yeah - I almost forgot - move the intake around the driver's body - either above or split to the sides.
I'd love to see one with a contrarotating fan setup to clean the airflow a little bit and remove the torque
I believe in the next build, try two units one on each outrigger. It would have more airflow, more power and you could use them to steer.
Funny looking rocket, I wonder how well it would work in the vacuum of space
Need a longer kayak to track straighter and a skeg to steer with your feet
I’m pretty sure my husband would fit right in with you guys!
Hey Josh! How funny it would have been if you would have worn a Wile E. Coyote outfit?? 🤣😂🤣
I want one for my stand up paddle board.
You might try adding a foot controlled rudder.
you NEED a round 2, with twin kyakes catermaran style and twin acme rockets!!!
Round 2 let's go 😮😂😂
Have y’all ever tried the baking soda and superglue method on any builds?
And if so how did it hold up?
You need a longer kayak with rudder controls , and make the sponsons a bit skinnier to reduce drag if they bite the water.
You guys never disappoint 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
We are glad you enjoy what we do 😂😂 It Means A Lot
At 5 minutes into the video the thought of Tailspin comes to mind.
WE ALL WANT ROUND 2!!!
Two motors either side, opposite rotation to counteract the torque and will free up the intakes please
You need to get a kayak with a rudder you can control with your feet!
You won’t have to worry about the paddle that way.
ROUND 2 PLEASE, 2 MOTORS
Oh man how I would like to see those power pods used for an LSA or Ultra Light.
Round two please!!!
With that Kayak you could also do Anakin's pod racer!
RC rudder and it’s good to go!
You need a kayak that has a rudder and possibly a keel or skeg. Maybe two engines with differential thrust to steer.
Now make two of these motor pods to create a twin EDF Meglacy!
That was cool
I saw the thumb and read the title. I thought for sure this was Peter's channel.
ahh Mohawk... childhood memories~
Awesome.
Rocket:
a cylindrical projectile that can be propelled to a great height or distance by the combustion of its contents.
So this can't be a rocket unless you set it on fire!
Round two!
Can't wait to see the landspeeder on the water
Put the motors on the sponsons. And put some water pressure on the sponsons so that they are actively holding you stable.
Hey, try to make an ekranoplan, I think it will be fun
After watching so many Coyote & Roadrunner cartoons, if it says Acme, send it back.
always epic content!
Thank You 😂
Next build, 2 of these motors counter-rotating, mounted on a foam catamaran.
Can you do a second video that has 2 engines on it? It would be awesome!
Longer streamlined sponsions with fore and aft mount points, and thrust vectoring louvers on the motor!
It needs a proper stator design for big efficiency boost.
Would love to see you turn it into a ground effect boat, good job not stacking it guys.
Go for it two motors
More!!
your kayak hull also is non planing. Super limiting. you can put a 3hp on a canoe and it will only add speed to about 1/2 throttle. After that it ss just noise and gas.
Yes two motors and a rudder and or keel.... and sponsons need more of a V botton boat shape so they don't plow
Those would be good motors for a giant scale a 380 or 767
