      Hey, thanks for your comment! 😊 And yes, this really was one of the scariest aspects of DPDR for me (and for Dave!) -- the feeling that things you used to be able to enjoy (like music + films) were now strange and even frightening. And it feels particularly brutal when that's the profession you're involved in! Question about the book, in the section “The Nonsense Illusion” you say that “like depression it hijacks your every thought and makes you think all you are doing in your life is worthless”. So here’s the thing, are you saying DPDR can manifest as that illusion, making you think you’re lacking purpose and that what you do is worthless? Or are you saying that DPDR hijacks your thoughts like depression, but those thoughts aren’t necessarily about purpose? Thank you for any clarification!

      Hi! Of course I am not a doctor so I cannot say anything for certain. But I used to have insomnia quite intensely and I had a lot of vivid dreams and imagined things as I was falling asleep. I never really thought of them as hallucinations though, I always figured it was my brain being in a state of hyperarousal (because of my anxiety that kept me awake) and my sleep drive being so strong at the same time. Unless it is highly concerning to you I dont think I would worry too much about it! I think it’s normal

      @@mars__4 i would often be very aware of my heart beat and little sensations along my body when trying to fall asleep because of the hyper vigilant anxious state I was in. Sometimes I would panic and feel my legs tremble. Occasionally if I was really sleep deprived and exhausted I would feel my legs trembling as I was falling asleep, that’s how I knew I was super tired. Hey Brenden, thanks for your comment. Firstly, if you are experiencing any thoughts of self-harm, please do speak to a medical professional as soon as possible.
      Secondly, I know DPDR can be scary but just remember that it’s a natural reaction to stress and anxiety, and people experience it all the time. The National Institute on Mental Illness estimates that up to 75% of people experience at least one depersonalization / derealization episode in their lives. It's part of your brain's natural defence mechanism and usually it only lasts a few seconds or minutes at a time. It's only when it's focused on as a separate problem (feeling like you're going crazy / in a dream etc) that it can turn into a feedback loop with the anxiety that caused it in the first place. But no matter what caused it or how long you've had it, you can always switch it off completely by stopping that anxious feedback loop. Make sure to carefully read through all the articles and info on my website at www.dpmanual.com

    • @Dpmanual
      @Dpmanual  Před rokem

      Ultimately the decision is up to you. I do know of some people who have made complete DPDR recoveries and who have safely gone back to smoking weed. However, I would strongly recommend that you avoid weed and other drugs completely at the very least until you've made a complete and 100% recovery. Also, you do need to understand that if weed triggered the Depersonalization, there's always going to be a risk that it could happen again. Now, once you've recovered from DPDR and understand what the condition is, it's a lot less likely to return as an ongoing condition -- because if you ever encounter the feelings again you recognize them and can allow them to pass naturally. Again, I wouldn't recommend doing it myself, but the decision is up to you. Hope that helps!
