    I HAVE MADE A 100% RECOVERY. I haven't even thought of derealisation for half a year now, even though I went through hell with it last year. Everything fell apart around me, I thought I had gone insane, entered another dimension, everything felt absolutely terrifying, dark, devoid of hope and I felt like I got stuck in a place that I couldn't exit evem through death. I had brutal intrusive thoughts all day every day about dying, freaking out about philosophocal questions of consciousness, reality and afterlife. I thought I was gone forever. But day after day, I actually spent more and more time with my normal self. By following Shaun's guide, not stopping my life and gritting my teeth even though I thought I am literally going mad actually helped me make a COMPLETE recovery. Stop researching, stop looking at forums, stop analysing your thoughts, stop trying to engage with and interact with your scary thoughts. They mean absolutely nothing, they are a symptom of anxiety. You do not have to address the content of them, ever. I have forgotten so much about derealisation, that I have only come back to this channel to leave this comment here to give hope to others.     I have DP now for over 4 years, I never knew what I was. Such a horrible time until I saw your first video! Now I stopted everything, drugs, games, porn, Alkohol and caffeine, plus I work a lot. I can't wait to be normal normal again. Some days like today are so frustrating, cause the DP was even stronger. But I need to remember you and your voice that says.. It will go away! Thanks a lot for everything! ❤😢

      Go towards the fear, dont run from it. Go towards it, embrace it and just let it be. Over time your mind will remove the fear from all of these thoughts and sensations. I struggle for 12 years and I was able to recover in just 1 year after implementing those practices of acceptance. There's nothing wrong with you its just your bodys unique way to protect you from extreme exhaustion and stress. You get stronger too once you recover. Like the stress itself no longer takes the same toll on you anymore.

    looking at other people and not feeling the connection is making me panic. i feel aimless and directionless and im scared bc ive had these feeling before, and it made me scared that i wasnt gonna enjoy my life. and now im really not enjoying my life. everything is passing me by.

    This video really helps. Always scares me when I see people that say it’s been going on for 4 years.. mine just started to get really bad a few weeks ago but I’ve had episodes my whole life. But finding this channel and these videos gives me hope.

      mine was super bad the first few weeks bc i dwelled and panicked a ton, the more you accept it the more it goes away, trust me meditation and writing help a ton, rest your body and do things that make you happy, but trust me it gets better faster than you know, just stay positive❤️❤️❤️❤️

    One thing I learned in this journey is that whenever I fight against the feeling of DP or DR it tends to stay for longer and get worse sometimes because my mind percives this state as a threat, therefore it's always on my mind, and I find myself thinking of ways to not get into that feeling or that state of mind. But once I started to not put so much importance on it and see it as natural mechanism toward anxiety and stress, my mind slowly started not seeing it as a threat as much as it used to and i tend to think less and feel more normal than usual. Be easy on yourself and whenever you catch yourself worrying about this state remind yourself that it is completely normal and try to welcome whatever feeling without judgment during DP or DR. By doing this I naturally began to feel more at ease with myself and life and my mind wouldn't view this state as danger or threat. Don't expect to recover overnight, because with expectation you're constantly checking and seeing whether the symptoms are there or not and it makes DP stay for longer than it should. it is 100% possible to recover and we're all have the same defense mechanism. Many people have fully recovered and you are one of them

    I got hit with severe DP after traumatic cardiac arrest in the autumn. It was persistent and terrifying. I've been following the manual for 3 weeks getting back into everything and I'm feeling the shift. I'm feeling my feelings in a distant way but something is happening and I'm here for it.     I don’t know if what I’m going through really is depersonalization. It felt like it sometimes, but other times it feels like I don’t have some of the symptoms people talk about. I don’t feel afraid of looking at myself in the mirror, or afraid of existential thoughts themselves. I’m getting random flashes to memories of my past, while also feeling like my memories are faded and fuzzy. I’m unable to feel anything towards my special interests, other than that I know I’m supposed to like them, even though I’ve seen plenty of people say they are able to use their favorite hobbies/interests as distractions to help get over it, and I feel like the last time I went through this 3 years ago, I did have those more classic symptoms.
    As for the symptoms that do line up, I feel like the human condition feels foreign, like I can’t even begin to comprehend real life problems, my cognition has taken a hit, I’m having problems remembering things, I feel emotionally numb, a lack of empathy in being able to comprehend regular problems or relate to others (real or fictional), I don’t feel anxiety towards things I normally would (talking on the phone, social situations, money issues), I can’t get excited or enjoy things right now, I have these existential sensations when trying to relate to the things I want to enjoy (especially if there’s some level of violence involved, even if that violence is campy, humorous, combat from a videogame or DnD, an epic fight scene, just a part of nature or from a documentary, or even if it’s meant to be intense/upsetting), I feel desensitized to things that I would normally find upsetting, I have no/numbed emotional connection to my older memories, I can’t really get into anything that gives off more complex emotions or is meant to make you think (although I did in the past). I feel like I’m not as punctual or on top of things as I was before.
    Im afraid of losing some of my interests, simply from taking too long to recover and the interest fading over time. I’ve ended up dropping interests that I haven’t engaged with in a while all the time, so it’s a legitimate concern for me.
    Sometimes this feels more like depression, or just intrusive thoughts, I feel like I can’t get engrossed in stories or games, or other things I enjoy, or empathize/feel connected to other people/characters/situations I used to find relatable, or my sense of humor or seriousness even when I don’t feel any anxiety at all. Even when I don’t have any random intrusive or obsessive thoughts.
    Last time I went through this, I do believe that I didn’t come out unscathed, and that my memories from before my first time were still somewhat dull and emotionally distant, and that my personality might not have been entirely the same before and after.

    I am in DPDR since 5 days, caused by a panic attack and anxiety..feel emotional and physical numb and really bad at the moment..this video is helping a LOT! I have just a question tho...the recovery is the same fot weed users DP people and people (like me) that got it because of stress/anxiety/panic?     I’m scared that the symptoms i have aren’t actually from DP and something worse is wrong with me. Can’t really see why it couldn’t be the case and it’s making me panic

    Hey ive got a question and would love some input, im pretty close to buying this manual. Is hard/intense exercise a good idea when your mind is in this state?     Hi. I have been having dpdr for almost three years now. Recently found out that traveling is good for trauma healing and cptsd. Do you think traveling alone will help for dpdr recovery as well??

      Travelling can certainly be a great way to focus away from the thoughts + feelings of DPDR 😊 But I'd also recommend making sure that you also understand the condition and why it's happening in order to give yourself the space for that refocusing to happen.     I have progressed 50%, I feel calmer and I do these activities without a problem, but this other part of 50% seems to me as if it is not happening, I am afraid that it will last much longer, I do not know why I feel as if I have stagnated, is this normal during recovery and in your manual, is there information about this part, how to divert attention from the symptoms

    What freaks is when you are in the present and think about the past the fight or fight response gets speed up while returning to the present and you tend to forget things. How to deal with that please tell .

    Shaun i m from india a month ago i got a bad experience with weed and get panic because i used it for first time and got dry mouth i thought something was squeezing my neck and after one day i got hospitalized because i have a little bit of infection so i thought its bcs of it i was spitting mucus too bcs i m casual smoker of cigrates too but after coming back to home i start feeling anixous and my throat is the only big probelm sometimes i feel derealised and out of the world too a week before i feel some chest pain too i dont know i have dp dr or a noraml anixty disorder but i really want to recover plz help °

    Even though I’ve had a bad weed experience before, sometimes I kinda wanna smoke weed again because I’ve never felt…THAT high and never had anxiety while being high until that one night when I had that bad experience. But I don’t wanna feel that way again. It’s probably because I smoked the whole bowl pipe thingy at once or whatever, plus my dad wasn’t kidding when he said it was strong. But I’m afraid that if I smoked weed again then my DPDR might get bad again. But now it’s not as bad as it was when I started having it

      So ultimately the decision to smoke weed again is up to you. I do know of some people who have made complete DPDR recoveries and who have safely gone back to smoking weed -- starting, of course, with very low doses / weak strains. However, I would strongly recommend that you avoid all strains of weed and other drugs completely at the very least until you've made a complete and 100% recovery 😊

      @@brianasomers Unfortunately I don't have any experience with CBD oils and so can't offer any advice on them. A good rule of thumb though, is that if you're finding a technique to be helpful and grounding, then feel free to use it. And if you would like to speak to a medical professional please don't hesitate to do so. I would recommend finding an anxiety specialist if possible as they will likely be more familiar with DPDR.

      Hi Sharell, thanks for your comment 😊 Remember that ultimately, DPDR is just a symptom of anxiety so when the symptoms vary, it's just your anxiety levels going up and down, and certain situations / environments can change them.       Hey Barry, thanks for your comment 😊 I know DPDR can be scary but just remember that it’s a natural reaction to stress and anxiety, and people experience it all the time. The National Institute on Mental Illness estimates that up to 75% of people experience at least one depersonalization / derealization episode in their lives. It's part of your brain's natural defence mechanism and usually it only lasts a few seconds or minutes at a time. It's only when it's focused on as a separate problem (feeling like you're going crazy / in a dream etc) that it can turn into a feedback loop with the anxiety that caused it in the first place. But no matter what caused it or how long you've had it, you can always switch it off completely by stopping that anxious feedback loop.     I sometimes wake up in the night, not knowing where i am or who i am. Can this also be part of dpdr ?
    This will last for about 1-3 minutes then it goes away but by that point im in a panic attack ..
