On holiday in Palm Beach Florida back in 2006, we saw two adult and a baby Manatee very close to the shoreline, in the entrance to Palm Beach Harbour. Wonderful sight!
They come up to where the river meets the ground at the base at NAS Jax in Florida. They will come right up and peek up at you. You can pet them. They're such curious creatures. I was very happy to get to see one when I was down there. *For clarification, I was not in the military. We had our NJROTC military ball on that base every year. I had planned to join, but was injured badly my senior year. That ended that. You can go on base with certain ROTC programs, as military family and with the sponsor from someone in the military. To have to be pre-approved. You can also be a civilian contractor. I don't want anyone to mistake me for trying to make it seem like I was in the service. My dad and grandpa were, but not me.
Manatees aren't always nice. They have personalities and moods. They can cause alot of harm to animals who are sent into the water to interact with them. Owners..use your head and keep your pets away from ALL WILD ANIMALS..unless you want some trauma in your life.
Otis is trying to make the manatee come closer with gestures. He knows that is some kind of sea-doggo. lol!
