why is this unexpected? We have a woman who studied slavic literature in university as the finance minister. We have been doomed since the beginning.

Well its on Canadians too. We have the internet, we can see how europeans get their society which is more productive with less chronic burnout and better paid time off by actually doing something. We can talk to boomers about how they actually cared about their living standards and using democracy and civil society and even unions where it worked and doing something. Thats the key, actually doing something. This is on you Canada. You seem to have stopped caring, and now we have stagnant economy where business and workers are not benefiting. Do something if we want a good economy and way of life for business and employees as in the 1960s and 70s.

When you focus on wealth redistribution rather than wealth creations, sooner or later everyone will be out of a job.

In case you havent noticed, middle class income have stagnated for 4 decades. Where do you think all that economic growth went too? There need to be major changes when even the middle class cannot afford housing, to enjoy life, or even start families. Wealth creation is important, but what use is it when the people creating it are not rewarded or get better a quality of life? I know if may be hard for you to believe, but decades ago it was possible for Canadian professionals to not have to live with roommate late into their 30s or 40s and to survive without having to do multiple jobs. Maybe that is why productivity has stagnated, maybe thats why chronic burnout is so bad, maybe thats why so many people who worked are homeless or live in Rv parks on the side of highways. Thats what happens when the needs of the ultra-rich are prioritized over those who actually drive the greater economy. Inequality does happen, but its important not to forget those who actually do the work to make our society run.

@@abcdedfg8340 can't really see where you are going with this argument. It seems you are either a liberal or NDPer. But I like to remind you that when I bought my house 12 years ago, I paid $338,000, which is just 2.25 times my annual income. Now the house is worth $1.1 million, and my pay is just slightly less than $200k. So what I am telling you is that income has barely gone up but home prices have quadrupled. Whose fault is it? Trudeau. He is the reason home prices are so high driving the middle class into poverty.

Time to change that. How many Canadians do you know that are just accepting this decline, or are willing to make the changes so we can have a better future for employees and employers? Boomers certainly knew what to do. Europeans still do what is needed. When will Canadians start making these positive changes? Do Canadians care enough about their own lives, or are they too timid to do what is needed for a productive and prosperous economy with work-life balance? Its really up to them, they seem to have have stood by silently accepting a cost of living crisis for decades while wages stagnated. So maybe Canadians need to get up and do something? I am so tired of Canadians just giving up, they seem to have just given up for decades, and it just got worse. Just my opinion.

To slow down inflation interest rates are raised, which slows or shrinks job growth. This in turn shrinks demand, combatting inflation. Expected result.

DId it ever occur to anyone in the comments section that the problem is not just Trudeau? Its us Canadians. Who was silent for decades while housing costs spiralled out of control while wages stagnated? Its almost like many just stopped engaging in their democracy even outside election time. In France and Germany, they still care and workers are treated with decent wages and decent work life balance. Boomers cared, they got decent wages and a great middle class economy that we are still surviving off. We can have a better future with better productivity, more business, and work life balance, but Canadians, you have to start caring and not just sitting around silently like so many of you seem to have done for decades while this crisis grew. Its your country, and its your responsibility to help keep us on the right track. Or you can run away form the situation you created by doing what seems to be nothing. Just my opinion.
