Awesome video! Thank you! No disappointment in learning capability with you guys!
Excellent concept 👍🏿
GOOD CONVERSION !!!!!!!
3.6 amp with no load on the motor put it under load it's going to pull twice that much expect 3 hours of mowing time in real world conditions still a great idea
Under heavy weed cutting load we did see it jump to 5.2 amps
Would've loved to see it under load while mowing. TY!
Haha, I love how the two little dogs follow her in 🤘🏻

So cool. I have a 120v mower and ready to convert it. You got me thinking about an A/C power through Inverter lawn tractor with electric weed eater and rack.
Nice work 😄👍🏻. That's going to be my next lawnmower build for sure.
Right on!
So cool. I did a similar trick, but.. notice that my mower had a diode to rectify 120 volts AC to DC, so.. I bypassed the diode and just wired 120 volts DC batteries right to the motor and mowed the grass. I only ran it for 10 minutes. I don't think my setup would go more than 1/2 hour cause i was using 7 amp hour batteries. but, still. Worked pretty good.
Good deal! I was thinking doing similar, though with a homebrew portable power bank, for the electric chainsaw off the grid. Thanks for sharing!
I last left off wondering about which was the best soft or hard start capacitor to add and to whether hardline/wire into the inverter or make a external plugged connector box with since seemed better on everything using a big capacitor for starting in between the saw and inverter. Awesome build!
Guessing if not half wave rectified (to make ~60V), then sounds like if there is a resistor then that and the diode(s) will do the voltage drop thing.
Go for it!
220uf 180+ volt AC/DC rated.
Goodmorrning that is cool as hexx thanks
*This is a super cool video. This is incredible! Converting a corded lawn mower to run on batteries for a full 6 hours straight is not just a game-changer for convenience but also for the environment. It's amazing to see how innovation can make our daily tasks more sustainable. Great job on this project!" 🌿🔋 **#GreenTech** **#SustainabilityWin*
That is cool.
I would like to see a video of it cutting grass
I'll see if Kiera can do a update on it. Pure heat outside right now, 108+ and no grass to cut, so maybe in a few weeks.
@@JOHNDANIEL1 ow ok yeah to hot to be out doing that anyway thanks for the reply o like the set up I would like to try something like that if I could find a electric mower hard to find around where I’m at lol
I can't figure out which lithium battery is the best value/performance. You recommend so many, mule vs workhorse. Need performance obviously, but value.
Just like hedge trimmers back in a day haha thanks JCondon says hi /howdy great lesson thank ,s Peace
i love the video i Have two of those box store battery lawn mowers and i feel your pain the ego 21 " last 32 minutes on a charge . the 16" ryobi 18 volt last 16 minutes on a charge with the 4ah drill batteries . I am apauled at how much a 12 amp battery cost for these mowers . I bought an amazon adapter to go between the ryobi and a dewalt battery so that i can add any battery I wish . I am thinking of adding a 20ah lipo and a 12 volt to 19 volt 20 amp boost converter to give the mower its normal power and try to get a full hour of run time. this video intrigues me as you are making a portable mobile rolling power station that doubles as a powerful mower as well . great work . I just think I will be keeping my current mowers and adding larger a lipo battery will be cheaper at the moment. I have found the ryobi 20 inch corded mower blemished on tools direct for $140 shipped. which seems like a great deal .
kira, dont feel bad,i ran over a few drop cords before too
Kudos for finding one of those with a metal deck.
Drive though some heavy waste generating neighborhoods. Usually trackable by voting blocks, I find all my best perfectly good stuff in Go Green Preaching Democrat neighborhoods that sue you if you install a solar panel. They seem to throw everything away.
You gave your SunJoe back it's MowJoe!!! 🤣
Got to get that name Registered ....... SunK! ;0)
It probably only pulls about 4 A when running without grass. As soon as you start mowing grass the current will rise. Also take into consideration that the inverter will have inefficiencies and your roughly 6 hour run time may be less. The motors on these aren't really like the regular battery mower because it's a brushed DC design connected to a full bridge rectifier while the other battery mower uses a more efficient brushless design. Thus the battery powered one will outlast this one but I guess that's not a big concern either way.
Also, I can trim and mow off of most battery products with the same batteries on devices by Echo or Stihl with a little more freedom than with your setup. It's too bad we didn't get to see the mower in action mowing the grass.
it was the first thing that crossed my puny brain, mobile power station.
good to know the motor is dc, id be tempted to insulate the inverter from the frame, will it need some kinda dust protection .
I'd say the dust feature may be occasional and if you blow it out from time to time it'll be OK. The inverter being used at under 50% its ability won't get too hot. These come apart easy with 4 screws even when mounted you can open the top half and dust it out.
and just find a way to mount the solarcell on the mower, and it run all day ;)
I tried this with a Craftmen electric mower, and it wouldn't work, do I need a certain battery? I could run other things though it meaning the inverter , but the mower wouldn't work. PLEASE ADVISE???😢😮
This should be a integrated build the first place from the factory
Neato!
How many amps and stuff does it draw under load?
5 to 7.8 depending on the grass it's cutting,
is a 12 V 50 Ah lifePO4 battery not sufficient to run a 12 amp mower?
It will do it, but your pushing your BMS in a battery like that. If you bog down on heavy grass of get a clog in the discharging shoot it may over amp just enough to stop it. Use a 100A mini like the PQ or LiTime has shrsl.com/42ud8
Good idea John I hate corded lawn mower's my parents had them when I was a kid so ya know what happened there lol
I have a 19 horse 48 volt Mitsubishi motor, 4 brush model for the Hyster and Mitsubishi closed track fork lifts. Shaft is 25mm and 3.145" long. I need the controller for one, but I also have a riding lawn mower with a dead 17.5 kohler in it. I have 4 TIME USB 50 AH batteries too, Hmmmm. A 20 hp Porta Lift walk deck controller would work, but they are $400. They sell all electric 60 volt 16 amp riding mowers for $4500, I just wonder??
The trick is to mow parallel and away from the building. It's not hard to do.
I remember calling my aunt one time and she said she was trying to fix her cord for her lawn mower she wanted to get it done before her son came home as he had told her to buy a gas one as she'd run the cord over and she didn't want him to say I told you so I noticed you used a pure sine wave inverter would a modified sine wave inverter work as I've ended up with 3 one I bought about 20 years ago one was given to me and the other was inherited all were bought before I found utube wouldn't mind setting it up so I can use it on my snow blower as well
If it's running a rectified DC motor then I don't see a problem with it handling a square wave output into the 120 service. The thing about a rectifier is it don't care as long as it has a positive side to collect from. Check and make sure you have a DC motor in it, and I'd use a modify that's twice as strong as the Motor calls for and you should be fine.
i had a Setup like that my Niece googled a Eco Friendly Lawn mower and got 3 wheel Corded and later on she gave it to me and i stuck a 750w Inverter with 2 heavy Batteries i broke the top Plastic on the " Eco Friendly " Lawn Mower it Worked for a Bit the Dying Acid Batterie whernt up for the Task
Battery powered devices are far from eco-friendly. Firstly, getting the elements to make the batteries is poisoning surrounding areas with exposure to Lithium, Cadmium and fossil fuels (yes, to make these batteries the mining equipment still relies on fossil fuels to get it out of the ground). Secondly, to charge those batteries the conventional way through distributed power a good portion of electricity generated comes from fossil fuels like coal and natural gas. Thirdly and about as hazardous as the first point, end of life for these batteries typically goes not so well. You can't really recycle Lithium based batteries as the majority of it gets collected and warehoused. It's called, "black mass" and no one has found a way to recycle it. So no, battery technology isn't any greener than gas. Now, if you made these cordless devices with lead acid batteries, they are significantly more recyclable than any Lithium based battery. The drawback is they're heavily dependent on maintaining a certain charge and heavy to boot.
The most eco-friendly way of maintaining a lawn is not having a traditional lawn. If you plant clover instead of grass it still maintains that fresh green but requires less frequent mowing. Another way is to convert your lawn areas into more garden space. Especially gardens with drought resistant plants like succulents and other things.
Lmao, I've done it myself! Excellent job, Kiara; those cords sneak up on the lawnmowers. I swear! Your pushing, and next, they're all under the mower! Were you going to plug that weed-eater, I was wondering? Mystery solved!
If you look online, facebook marketplace or your local free classifieds you will always find these corded mowers free or near free, they make great platforms for many things. We have 4 of them that get used for many hauling jobs. One has the 30 gallon can/bin on it with Chicken feed, one she cleared off and is using it for a garden soil hauler and the other one is still waiting for a creative use. We have growing grass in January LOL and she had to clear away around her garden fence as she gets it ready early this year, now if I can find a way to get electric cords for free........
I’d be concerned about dust and debris and pollen sucking into the inverter mixing with humidity in the air would gunk it up fast. some type of filter for the inverter might be a good idea
Yes, I picked up a piece of fiber filter for it. As for humidity, I'm in central Texas so not very high here.
@@JOHNDANIEL1 I made a similar set up with an electric weed eater on a swing arm for a rider to mow under fences as I drove by, patented it as the walkless weed eater, inverter got hogged up with dust and pollen and caught fire, burned the mower the yard and almost the house,
@@travishodges5179 That is why it has the circuit breaker and we have the filters for it. Where I am, the dust issue is not real bad and the use of it is supplemental to a riding mower.
@@JOHNDANIEL1 right on, love what you do, keep up the good work, I did the sticker trick with an outboard motor 20 years ago, a hood off a 9.9 merc would fit on a 20hp. Stupid laws
Would a modified inverter do just as well
You don't even need ac it's a universal motor so will work on both
Being rectified as they are to the motor, you can add a 7mf 370v AC capacitor and it will do ok on a modified.
@@davidpenson1615 Even if that is true the voltage difference would be a problem
@Lance Alderman I never said run it on 24v. But you can get a dc to dc boost converter for reasonable money. In reality that's how modified inverters work. Boost dc voltage and chop to make ac.
I have a battery powered one I want to convert. I think it`s 40 volts.
The ones that are already battery powered can be charged by sun using a buck boost charger and one 50 watt solar panel. Makes them always ready and believe it or not those tool battery chargers are only 45% efficient so you save $$ over time doing it.
@@JOHNDANIEL1 Thanks. I was ignorant about battery powered mowers when I bought it. Then I saw reviews about various complaints about them. The original lot I had planned to live on was very small and battery power would have likely worked out ok but I moved to a big lot.
Yeah... I can see me cutting my grass with that monstrosity... and have my neigbours die laughing....😉
Excellent result if they die laughing, it'll be like you will have the extra power now to mow their lawns too while they spin off to the afterlife happy!
Hi John i am from South AFRICA i watch your wind turbine videos and i am busy bulkding a Axial Flux wind turbine for 12 volt batteries can i use a car rectifier to control the load to batteries or must i build my own rectifier? I dont trust Missouri wind and Solar and i am in South AFRICA TO BUY IN aMERICA IS IMPOSSIBLE AND CANT BUY ON EBAY.
A basic load diversion control can be made from a dc charge controller board with some relays. Or best to do is get a ALL IN ONE to handle it all.
@@JOHNDANIEL1 Thank you John
@@JOHNDANIEL1 Hi John something that i struggle to get out of you tube people not many want to help. How do i know what is a 12 v 24 v and 48 volt stator?
Mr Daniel. I am in search for a good (non Chinese) Wind turbine. I inquired on the Hurricane 750 wqtt 12 volt generator, and was informed by Mr Jones that they are not selling them anymore. Do you know of any other sellers here in the USA that sells good quality wind turbines of the 12 volt and 750 or 850 watt ? I guess I waited too long to get one from Hurricane. Any information will be of help.
Hurricane turbines, their parts, were sourced from numerous countries. China supplied the generator, blades from Turkey, hub materials and frame USA.
@@JOHNDANIEL1 I appreciate your response . What I'm trying to do is get a decent wind turbine. I have watched many of your videos and heaved learned quite a lot so far. What wind turbine would you recommend ? I am wanting a five blade for semi low wind area, and around 750 watts in 12 volt ac. something close would work. I appreciate it.
@@edwardutter6975 The 3 blade low wind 800 watt or 5 blade regular Wind Generator from Green Energy is about the best for the money. s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_AeJFRx Of course you have to have usable winds, clear and a proper place to mount them as any of them. Using the Diversion System or a ALL IN ONE controller is needed. Run it with 8 awg up to 45 feet to your batteries, or 6 awg if further than 45 feet. It will do you justice.
Wouldn't it be much simpler to run the Universal motor on straight DC? Something like 24-28 volts should give you more than adequate power without the loss of inversion. No real need to 110v AC on a universal motor.
Its a 64 volt motor. My old black and decker was a 18 volt, ran fine on a car battery.
Your wiring on the battery not explained clearly
