Just a fun fact about this movie- it was filmed on my college campus but none of the buildings are what they are. She walks into a building that has class rooms but it cuts to her in the dorms. My friends and I watched it while super high and it freaked us out so much we had to stop watching because we’d just keep screaming every time she walked into a building that’s WAY different on the outside than the inside

So, during my first viewing of the first film I was scared shitless throughout, not just because of the jumpscares, but because I was afraid they would try to make Carter the killer as some sort of subversion. I mean, you said no one is perfect, but I dare say Carter comes really fucking close. So I was happily surprised when not only was he not the killer, but that the subversion of Carter is, he's exactly what you see, a genuinely good person. He isn't secretly a douche or the killer, the surprise is, he really is what you see.

I want to see a Happy Death Day where we see Happy Death Day 2 U from the perspective of the Tree who never lost her mom, watching her have to cope with a reality where she did, and see what kind of person the old Tree became in that universe, and realize just how much of what was keeping her together was her mom. Watching her come to terms with a reality, where, according to others, she was being a level of awful that she never thought possible, and confront how she has been taking her mom for granted, all while avoiding a person out to kill her on her and her mom's birthday. I don't know if it's enough for an entire movie, but some bonus content would be nice. Maybe with a blu-ray set.

A slasher film that sets up a compelling female lead who's role is more than "final girl" is definitely an outlier in that genre. Because that is so rare in the horror genre (who unfortunately isnt known for painting female actors in roles other than hot bimbo who has the personality of a piece of toast) it is 100% a point towards positive female representation. This is coming from someone who loves horror media and still finds entertaining in its cliches.

She preordered it for us to watch together, but unfortunately she passed away from cancer a month after she was diagnosed. We never got to watch it together and it took me a long time to be able to come back to shows and movies we used to or were supposed to watch together. The first film was okay and quite funny, I loved it tbf, so I went to see the second movie expecting more or less the same thing. And I got the same thing until the scene with her mother, and her words to her mom reminded me that I had recently lost my dear grandmother quite suddenly who I loved very much, of the words I said to her, of the words I could have said, of the experiences we had together and could have had... At that point I was already in tears. We do under-appreciate the close people around us until they suddenly disappear and our lives are left half-vacant. They will be missed.
