    Sorry John but this video is really incomplete, you mention all his results but not what happened in the races and quali's. AlphaTauri has made him miss out on a good quali run at least once. And Gasly has had more stupid little moments of bad luck that are completely out of his control. Yes this season is a bad one for Pierre, he has made a lot of contact with other drivers. But the results aren't the whole picture. He just needs luck on his side for once to show us all what he's really capable of in this era.

      You're right about the car being slow, his team screwing up, and bad luck, but I also don't think Gasly himself is totally blameless for his struggles either. Thus far this season something just seems slightly off with him, like he's lacking a little focus maybe. He hasn't been horrible or anything but he hasn't been as good as we know he can be (even after taking everything you mention into account).

    A combination of three things probably.

    3. Yuki is doing much better this year, to a point I would find it hard to disagree with someone who said Yuki is better at the moment, so there is not an obvious gap between them to praise Gasly on.

      @@soundscape26 After the Austrian Grand Prix WTF1 did a video about how flares should be banned. Obviously that was in response to the Dutch fans going way overboard with them at that race, but we'd seen a lot of orange smoke at other races too. We know the tifosi aren't averse to using them either. I usually go to my mom and dad's house to watch the races with my old man and my mom barely watches while spending most of the time looking at her phone. Even she's noticed all the flares this year. We're Americans and flares aren't part of fan culture at all in the US so the spectacle of people making it so they can't see the sporting event they're attending and breathing in smoke _on purpose_ seems really bizarre to us. Anyway, I think WTF1's opinion that flares should be banned is reasonable; some may disagree but I don't think he's way out of line or anything.

    I think Gasly had a difficult start to the season and it's tilted him a bit - but then, my favourite thing that I've noticed about Gasly is that he seems to have this love/hate relationship with adversity, I think he kind of thrives in it - at least this is what I saw him take from his time at Red Bull, and it's the reason why I admire him as a person even outside of F1
    The question for me is will Gasly have the mental fortitude to really turn the 2023 season around - luck with the other drivers on track and his team are massive factors for sure, but given that they will be running an improved version of the 2022 car instead of a completely new car (I think the massive changes for the 2022 car tilted a lot of people's 2022 season), I think Gasly might be in a position to get back his 2021 momentum - he's done it before, and he's bounced back HARD from adversity before - I think it's really cool to see these patterns in any sportsperson, that willpower to push through adversity and go on to better and better performances - let's see

    I think it would be fair that you also mention all the back luck he’s had. For exemple Sergio Perez keeping his Q2 lap in Austria despite obviously being out of track limits and costing Gasly Q3. And also (you couldn’t have mentioned that since it hadn’t happened though 😂) his lap deleted in Hungary even though he was within the track limits and unlike Perez, not reinstated. We can also mention Monaco we’re Yuki causes a red flag and AT then decides it is a good idea to send him ahead of Gasly even though he’s been slower all weekend which costs Gasly his final run of Q1.

I can't begin to recount the amount of times I've seen him get screwed by terrible luck, whether it be AlphaTauri sending him out at the absolute worst times in qualifying, or by other drivers getting him involved in something that he wasn't even involved in. I think the analysis is good but missing that massive point really hurts the overall execution of the video.

    Pierre's non-AlphaTauri future is in the hands of other drivers and teams. He could go to Haas depending on what contract KMag has, but that's probably the only option since ALO replaced VET at Aston. Formula One really needs another team, wherther the current teams want it or not.

    This video is delivered with a lot of enthusiasm, almost as if you have been waiting to cover his downfall 😅😅😅.
    That said. I don't think Pierre is underperforming. His car last year was in the upper midfield. He could comfortable hit 4-6th position regularly while others like Alpine struggled to attain similar results. Also, the gap between midfield teams was enormous. Alpha Tauri and Alpine were in a different league compared to say AM and AR. This year tables have turned. The midfield is closer together. There is no telling who between AR, AT, Alpine, Haas, and AM will finish highest in a race. Slight weaknesses in your car could send you back to p14-p18.
    I think what has gotten Pierre is the same thing that has gotten similarly talented drivers before like Grosjean, Perez and Magnussen etc. You spend a long time in an average car knowing you're more talented than your situation. Mistakes begin creeping in as you struggle to compensate for the car's weaknesses. I won't be surprised if Pierre is the next dirtiest driver in the grid.

      @BiggieTrismegistus Před rokem

      I'm not sure I follow you. You say you don't think Gasly is underperforming but then say he's allowed mistakes to begin creeping in. Personally I think those mistakes are the reason he seems to be underperforming. The car isn't great and he's been unlucky but he just seems a little off this year. He hasn't been terrible by any means but he hasn't performed like we know he's capable of either.
      Your comment about talented drivers getting frustrated from being stuck in midfield machinery for years is an interesting one. I understand why guys want to be in Formula One but spending year after year knowing you can't win and that even making the podium is a serious long shot has to get a little old for some people. I'm sure Grosjean wouldn't trade his years in F1 for anything but he seems a lot happier now that he's in Indycar.
