Danny DiVito for "Last Meals" please! Also, Sesame seed dude needs some of those Sesame seed candies; they're good!
Yeeessss!!
Hes getting pretty far up there, it could just be his last
Same. That would be awesome. He has such great energy. I’d be really intrigued to hear his take on tough questions and also what Josh would ask him about.
Would love to see him there, he's so funny and talented.
my brother works at jersey mikes and on the day before christmas eve some guy ordered 200 sandwiches with abt an hour of warning, then never came to pick them up despite paying. we ate good that week.
Jersey Mike's is FAR superior. Now I'm hungry.
The big Kahuna is the best sandwich at jersey mikes
It's not even close
Me too! I love provolone. I’ll be picking up a Mike’s Way today. 20:21
This is disrespectful AF to Jersey Mike's
@@fiznet2128personally I’m a fan of the tuna sandwich. I haven’t had very good experiences with their hot sandwiches. I’ll give the kahuna a shot.
As someone with Celiac disease, I really appreciate Jersey Mike's. They're delicious and fresh, and the only big sandwich place that has gluten free bread! Even before my diagnosis I preferred them to Subway (Subway is just awful in every way), and sometimes I want a big ass sandwich without having to do it all myself.
Sometimes I want a basic, easy, saucey sandwich on my way home. Subway is a quick fix, Jersey Mike's is a treat.
Jersey mikes is 10 times better and around the same price, idk why it just has to be a treat.
@@secretagentrandybeans5602 because there's more to them. They're a heavier sandwich.
@@haliensexist So you pay the same price for a lower quality sandwich with less sandwich?
I remember subway restocking their roast beef, they came out with the vacuum packed bag and unceremoniously dumped it liquor and all. Meanwhile Jersey Mikes pulled it out of the oven and sliced it in front of me.
Exactly! Subway doesn't even TRY to hide the less-than-glamourous aspects of their food. They just let it all hang out, which is sooo unappetizing!
Our Jersey Mike's has a 5 off after 5 deal when you buy two giant sandwiches. A giant is multiple meals for me, and theses sandwiches keep well in the fridge. The cute guys who work there are just the most charming gents. One rough day I went in there for dinner and the manager bought me my sandwich because I looked like I was having a rough day. Its just a warmer, nicer place to get food.
Is that now? I remember when they did it like 2-3 years ago. Didn't know if they brought it back.
First time I went there the dude treated me so well, let me try a few of the ingredients, and you're right it was a warm experience. Subway may as well be a hospital cafeteria, depressing ass place.
Jared would never
mmm pretty privilege anecdotes xD
I went to a McAlister’s deli one really rough day and our waiter gave me a free cookie and he looked so upset I was upset. 😣😣 It did make my day though I think about that all the time. 🤣
*Jersey Mike’s stands shoulders above Subway. Higher quality ingredients, gluten free options, and greater variety. Jimmy John’s should receive an honorable mention. Their bread is delicious - but they don’t offer any hot subs, which is unfortunate.*
Subway, at least in Canada, has gluten free options, it’s one of the few places I can eat (I have a lot of dietary issues not just gluten) but I’ll say they need better transparency of ingredients and nutrition facts to really help people, priority allergen list isn’t enough
And subways ingredients list are neeeeever updated
Greater variety???? Subway has a lot more variety in ingredients and meats. JJ has fewer options for sure.
Subway was great back in the day. I worked there 22 years ago, we really did come in early like a real restaurant and do hours of prep before opening everything baked and sliced fresh daily. We also did the u-gouge cut on the bread. I think that while customers prefer the look of the current cut, they don’t realize the u-gouge meant we smashed the top back on, then wrapped it tight, which really helped marry the ingredients. We really enforced the order things were layered. We dressed the lettuce and salted on the tomatoes.
I don't like smashed bread it ruins the breadiness
Once the u-cut went away, Subway was never the same
old-school bread cut for the win!
I always called it the V cut lol
i was there for the transition. i didn't like it at first, but the hinge cut was way faster and easier to teach to new employees.
Jersey Miles, Quizno’s (RIP), Firehouse, Jimmy Johns..
I have converted to Jersey Mike's after one opened in my area and man, I really like them.
I miss quiznos. In the beginning their sandwiches were great. And Jimmy Johns was good because they deliver. I would order online and have a sandwich in my hands in 15 minutes.
Every Quiznos in my province shut down, aside from one 2 hours away.... in a small side town and that's because a couple bought that location outright and its on a highway so it does business. I would rather travel 2 hours there and find out they are closed than order from Subway.
Quiznos was my jam back in 2009.
THEY HAVE A PEPPER BAR
Love some Quiznos, I think they only ones open anymore are in Airports and they are gross
No competition. Jersey Mikes is insane!🤤
I'm soo glad you guys mentioned Subway's white chocolate raspberry cookie at 22:10 because that cookie and their very syrupy Dr. Pepper are the ONLY things Subway is good for anymore.
I think the trouble Subway has, even if they improve their quality, is that it has been so subpar for so long at this point that I have no reason to go there over other places I know have been consistently better, especially when the prices are so similar. The only times I have gone to Subway in the past 10 or so years was when I was on a long trip somewhere and just wanted something that tasted a little more "fresh" and it's all that was available, but I knew I wasn't going to get great quality. They have more competition now, and a lot of people have already found their go-to substitutes that they switched to when Subways quality started to decline and prices started to also go up.
Depends on what you get. The Italian is top notch
@psychofox9920 potbelly and jersey mikes are better for the same price point. Just can't justify subway with the availability of better subs. Especially if eating in the restaurant.
I work at a JM. We get the rare complaint about the price point, but IMO it’s worth it. I probably eat too much of it but theres just something about the amalgamation of tasty ingredients that just doesn’t get old. Nicole is 100% right, apples to oranges.
"Subway, become ungovernable" would be the best fast food slogan by far
Slogan could work for all kinds of businesses really
Good podcast. First time hearing/watching
Subway is definitely lawless. Just recently I went there and bought a soup cup full of pepperjack cheese.
My youtube ads have been FULL of 'lobster Subway' ads. I'm not saying I'm scared of eating lobster at Subway... but I am.
I dont need another long john silvers incident
subway is good but Jersey mike is better
What are CZcams ads?
Subway makes me feel weird
Firehouse is my go to. Love me some Jamaican jerk turkey with cherry peppers❤
It's so weird hearing people talk about Jersey Mike's. I'm in Jersey and we've had them for 20 years or so here now. I'm glad they're expanding.
Weird hearing about the expansion of Jersey Mike's?? They've been in California for 20 years, too. 🤔
had them for at least fifteen years in arizona?
Awesome job Josh podcast and see you on Tuesday.
To the reheating topic, some foods are known to get better every time they get reheated, for example the north german Grünkohl, but I guess its about the tempetures reached, and in that case as you always add fresh, very salty sausages, its anyways not as risky, especially as its not shortly brought back to temperature in a microwave, but rather boiled up again in a pot, also I never was to careful with food safty and so far it worked out fine, for sure with raw meat you have to be careful, but in general I think people are to afraid of it, probably better for the immune system to not completly avoid exposure at all cost.
I love when something Philly comes up Josh always makes all these references that only we of Philly would get
I'm glad you guys are back from your break!! Well, I know exactly what I am getting for lunch today. =) I worked and Subway for over 6 years and nothing compares to Jersey Mike's it's my all time favorite, I usually get the Club #8 or the BLT but I add everything. =) Have a great day!!!!!
Jersey Mike's is incredible. Like I used to live in the northeast. Are they as good as like a bodega? Not quite, but it's good and available everywhere. The #4 is the best.
This isn't a competition. You could not pay to ever eat again at Subway. Ship sunk.
i have never had jersey mike's but subway does exist here in denmark, and as far as i know, is viewed as a bottom rank fastfood chain. you only go to subway if there's nowhere else to go basically. but we also just doesn't have a big closed sandwich culture here so that might be why
Jersey mikes is top tier in the states (at least I think so)
i'm in australia and it's the same, subway is for university students with no money and absolutely no one else lol
I’m in America and it’s the same here I don’t know anyone that would ever choose subway over anything else. Also it’s no contest between subway and Jersey mikes, subways sandwiches taste like water
I’m watching this at like 7am and now I want a sandwich 😂😂
Josh and I have the same ethos around a food safety and that's why I love mythical😂
I want more Hotdog is a Sandwich! Also, I second Josh's vote for a bowl of ham on each episode!
Albuquerque resident here - there was a Jimmy John's about 4 blocks away from the Convention Center
I remember going to Jersey Mikes in Point Pleasant back in the 1960's. There subs were always the best.
0:04 Jersey Mike’s, without hesitation. Jersey Mike’s should not even be spoken in the same breath, as that other place-night and day. One has delicious sandwiches, and the other is Subway.
I know that Port of Subs is more Nevada, where it started, but they've always sliced their meat and cheese fresh and that is why I've always gone there versus Subway. I don't remember trying Quiznos, nor Mikes and I might try it if I'm ever around one. Subway is also expensive and so much controversy.
I love both Jersey Mikes and Subway. Subway has a lot more accessible locations, so I tend to go there more often. I could go for some JM right now though.. Shame the nearest one is 45 minutes away, and I don't have a car atm.
up next we'll have Longhorn Steakhouse NY strip vs an Old Navy sandal
My town in Alaska of about 8,000 population had five Subways in it at one time years ago. Now there are 3, one in 5he center of town, and the other 2 are on opposite sides of town, and we just got a Jersey mikes and a Firehouse subs last year
I remember the honey oat bread! That was always my go to bread!
I work at a downtown suburban Jimmy John's as a bike delivery driver, and the speed of delivery is absolutely our selling point, along with the fact that we have only cold subs. there's no toaster, so if you walk in and order, your sandwich is IN YOUR HANDS before you've even paid half the time
I used to work at Subway DO NOT EAT AT SUBWAY! Only a few toppings are fresh. Everything else is canned and pickled. Even the “fresh” ingredients sometimes arrive with mold. Whatever the chemical is in the bread leaves your clothes stinking after it’s baked. Lastly the owners are under extreme pressure to turn the smallest profit. They will do ANYTHING to cut corners and most of those means are DISGUSTING. Trust me skip eating but whatever you do, do not eat at Subway.
Okay but Panera's autumn butternut squash soup is SOOO yummy 😭😭
I think of subway as that boomer sandwich restaurant, and think of JJ similar to Josh. Except as the basic sandwich place. Jersey Mike's is like the hidden gem for me lol.
Subway used to have the coldcut combo and the meatball subs for $2.99 for the footlong and $1.99 for the 6inch.
That Jersey Mike's bacon is out of this world.
theres still a togos in phx and yes u can still get a #24 WITH sprouts if u ask
Glad this sandwich debate is a 3 am issue for yall
Yeah Honey Oat was my go to Subway bread and once they got rid of it I stopped going significantly as much as I used to.
Straight up love me some Jersey Mike’s
my work subsidizes lunches, today.. we feast on jersey mikes
Blimpie in north Phoenix, AZ was the best sandwich shop in America. Fight me. Miss you Mr. Chan.
I'm happy to hear Subway is apparently kinda okay again. Last time I had one in like 2017, I got a multiple meat sandwich and it was super bland and not salty like you'd expect. I'm sure it was part of some kind of overall nutrition initiative, but it was unsettling and awful. Jersey Mike's has never done me wrong, though.
Glad to hear I'm not only one that has left a pizza sitting out and ate it 😅
My family ordered pizza every Friday night, usually Little Cesar's pizza pizza and we never refrigerated it, ate it the next day, no problems.
@@miscellaneousmoon327pizza sits out up to 2 days and tastes fine.
you are right that subway is always a subway. lol It has a smell that is always the same even just walking past a store. We have many here in Australia. But hidden deli's will often do it better
I can find better looking sandwiches at my local cumberland farms (gas station/ market)
I worked at subway the veggies are definitely not fresh they cut them every morning but when we get them they're half rotten and squishy and we're told to slice them anyway and so your probably getting old veggies everytime
The only reason I went to Subway was the honey oat bread. When they dropped it, I stopped going. Haven't gone to Subway in a couple years.
Love the Snowcrash reference
I LOVE TO-GO'S, it is my first choice everytime but I haven't had it since I lived in California.
Never realised Josh knew so much about the BDSM community.
14:04 the Original Italian is EVERYTHING. I ONLY order an Italian at Jersey Mike’s. That paper-thin meat is the secret!😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
damn i miss Jersey MIke... I live out in BFE, and the nearest one is at least 1.5 hours away now...
I predicted the subway meat slicer in 2016 when I worked there and alledgedly my regional manager was approving redating the meats in an effort to save $ cuz our region was somehow loosing money despite being severely understaffed and paying federal minimum wage🤷♂️
4:50 jimmy johns gave my business class in highschool free sandwiches
JOSH! Subway doesn't have southwest sauce anymore 😢 literally the last time I got was a year ago was bc I they don't have it anymore. That w sweet onion was the best combo sauce & made my turkey sandwich w all veggies the best. All my fam & friends got on that combo
Don't even need to watch to know Jersey Mike WALKS here
New studio!
SW is also slicing meats in-store in The Bahamas.
It’s definitely a quality thing for the reheating over & over
But McDonald’s needs to go back to all day breakfast because I need the biscuits and gravy at noon
Jersey mikes is superior in every single way and its not close.
The difference is QUALITY. It outshines quality in ever single category. The meat, bread, and veggies are just so much better at Mikes. You go to Subway sometimes, and the tomatoes are white, and the lettuce is wilted. Gross.
the problem with your analogy at around 28 min is the fact that subway WAS that guy, they were them, they were at the top of the world. What else can they be if they have/had the most fast food locations? They became the CEO/Best Jazz dancer. a more apt scenario is they're the CEO that took the company to the top of the mountain, but over time they started to slide down the slope and couldn't use their climbing picks to recover as others have started to climb to the peak.
Working at JJ's doing delivery for two years added 20 pounds and 2 inches to my waist. But DAMN if their subs aren't simple, yet extremely filling. And if you do extra veggies and light cheese and TBO, it's actually relatively healthy.
Kheer can also be served hot though! It depends on what kind of restaurant it is.
I used to love subway turkey with cheese bread, but once i ate a jersey Mike's turkey I forgot all about subway and I rarely eat their if I have a choice I go to jersey Mike's everytime.
Being Australian we only have subway. Subway was great until about 2015 when shrinkflation really kicked off. The bread is too narrow, the salad is too stingy. I miss a good subway
Ive actually been leaning into Firehouse lately
*me watching the podcast from my job in a hospital kitchen * 40 and 140! The danger zone is 40 to 140.
Somehow I don’t feel ripped off by spending $12 on an original Italian at Jersey mikes! You get at least twice as much meat as you do at subway, and mikes way is so simple yet perfect imo!
My Jersey Mikes order: Number 9 mikes way no tomatoes side of chipotle mayo and buffalo sauce. It’s ridiculously good.
Part 2? Togo's, Firehouse and Jimmy John's
Subway in my neck of the woods, California in the mall. It has made some not so favorable changes, and are horrible at food preparations. Haha.
kheer... you naughty naughty naughty girl... LOL love that you got the giggles..
Just like Subway and Jimmy Johns with more mass expansion, Jersey Mike's will have less quality control and have to cut corners eventually. Only way to keep the quality control is to stay small like White Castle that's unavailable for most.
Here Subway bread is Legally considered as "Cake" so not a sandwitch
Where I live, Jersey Mike's are fairly new to the area. What I've had for years is Cousin's Subs. And it is the best!
If there was only a way for y’all to do Publix vs Jersey Mikes
Jimmy Johns is a millennial staple from college if you were lucky enough to have one near your uni during the 00's. They frequently were open for delivery until like 3-4am so after a night of partying, they were often the solution to an empty fridge that didn't require driving.
I worked at Jimmy John's for 5 years. We got mostly families or old men. Most of my coworkers were on the younger scale like myself 18 to 30 years old. They didn't care if you had tattoos but smoking cigerattes was very frowned upon.
When it comes to reheating Pizza, I only reheat the slice or slices I am going to eat, not the entire left over pie. The same for any leftovers, I only microwave the portion I am going to eat.
I just ate Subway 3 times this last week and got their roast beef, turkey, and bacon and tuna. Definitely didn't notice any difference in their meats.
Never heard of Jersey Mike's before this.
Me, 6am just finishing Saltburn😅
Subway was sold to Inspire Brands, which is the same parent company that Jimmy John's was sold to. They are slowly but surely turning Subway into JJs and JJs into Subway. The business model for products so far has been turning all their "deli sandwich" shops into the new Quiznos. Hot subs are being tested in corporate stores right now.
I once ate week old pizza that was sitting out in a hot hanger in a California summer at like 110 degrees... didn't get sick, probably because there isn't much real in Dominos for bacteria.
i see a jersey mikes every few exits when im driving across michigan. I see a subway on every corner and in every gas station in michigan. lol. subway is everywhere. I havent seen any of ours close, they seem to always be busy for lunch. you get a full belly for sure from either. Subway is nostalgia for me. I think jersey mikes taste a little better.
I know they can’t do it anymore but subway 5 dollar foot long was the reason why I used to eat there
Applied to Jersey mikes a year ago for a job. I never heard back from them so ever since then I’ve been giving Jersey mikes the side eye and eating at subway just in spite of them (I’m a touchy human being)
14:55 GO MIKE GO MIKE YEAHHHHH
I wish they went over nutrition and macros in the sandwiches. Subway you can get a turkey footlong for under 800 calories and it fills you up with all the veggies. worth looking at for good gym macros.
