I've always loved this ongoing story with Ryu. He trains to become the ultimate fighter but he must overcome this first. It makes him one of my favourite game characters ever!
For Akuma to say something like "You're weak because you're too evil." Is kind of ridiculous.

I love Kage. I never EVER main shotos but Kage became one of my latest additions to my stable in SFV. The Sixth character I picked up. I love his crouching normals and really buttery confirms. He's such an agressive shoto that doesn't really rely on FB zoning.
Well then, here's a fun fact that might ruin or improve your opinion of him: his fighting style is almost identical to renowned joke character, Dan Hibiki, minus all the taunting.
I feel like they did Ryu dirty with the way they resolved the dark hadou arc. Gouken just yoinks it out of him rather than Ryu conquering it himself, whose whole MO is 'I will improve myself'. Kind of defeats the whole purpose.
I wish Shin Ryu became canon

Kage is one of a few characters that truly comes alive in Street Fighter V's Mysterious Mod, he is a bit strict to truly get going in general play (unless you are familiar enough with how to exploit his abilities to induce heavy damage via lengthy combos that are on par with Street Fighter: The Movie (Arcade)'s play formula) but what he brings to the table from both a plot and gameplay perspective makes him serve as an essential part of the series' future, even if he is fated not to show up in Street Fighter VI for one reason or another.
Whenever we do get another entry with Kage present, wishfully by that point we will finally have the ability to do some proper form of Super Clashing: Double Raging Demon is one of the reasons why I got into the Mysterious Mod from the get~go; it would be nice to see a future entry (likely the presently hypothetical Street Fighter VII) where characters such as Gen, Guy, Akuma, Violent Ken, Kage, and many others are able to have their core abilities be presented in a way that aids the clashes' plot significance and more delicately expands on how everybody has managed to get strong enough to the point where no fight feels one~sided in those more intense moments where one previously couldn't fight back when a Super, Hyper, or Ultra was being executed.
Below is an example of Double Raging Demon in action; it's nice that we have witnessed this get adopted into official media years before it was brought here and wishfully we'll see this brought into an official entry, this is the most obvious next step to evolve the series beyond this point and I'm certain that many players truly want in kind too. (:

i think im "to blame" for the correct Ryu pronounciation. Big Daddy Top Hat earned my (true) love by reading my comment and aknowledging it. its hard for english speakers to tell what japanese sounds like. specially when the game was "silent" name-wise. out of respect, i didnt post about Kage correct pronounce since i already did with Ryu last Ryu-themed video. in time, japanese names will get understood better. Go, Big Daddy, im rooting for you!

I don't know about everyone else, but my favorite Street Fighter was always Ryu. Since i saw him back in my childhood on Sega Mega Drive 2, it instantly clicked for me in my head, and i knew that this is the type of characters that i like. And if in MK my favorites are Scorpion and Sub-Zero, in Street Fighter it will always be Ryu. And his iconic theme is just a pure musical art. And when you hear the lyrics and dig in to it, after understanding it, it will make you cry. Literally. Not because it is sad, but because how perfect Ryu as a character is. Especially his theme in Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo on 3DO, in Street Fighter 4 and in Street Fighter 5. Those versions of his theme hits HARD.
Sure, i also like other Street Fighter characters, but Ryu will always be my favorite №1 Street Fighter.
1:11 Excuse me, WHAT??? It is not pronounce as "Kagi" it's "KaGE" or "ka geh" which translates as "Shadow". Just google it. There is videos and sound clips that tells you how to pronounce it.

fun fact: Kage is Shadow in Japanese. It's the same word from the title of the Leaders of the Ninja Clan's as in Naruto. The same word in Kage no Shun Jutsu.

It’s strange that Ryu started out as Evil Ryu back in the Alpha series, and now they’ve brought a DLC character in SF5 as Kage. Even though in the end non of them are canonical to the game’s main story.

Upon his first gameplay videos, I really thought that Kage was going to be a Dark Hado version of Dan. The crappy little one handed hadoukens, and a left-handed dragon punch seemed to be clues leading toward that conclusion, but nope...and no explanation as to why his moves are more like Dan's than Ryu's.
Also, pronunciation-wise; Kage = Car-gay, and Oni=Own-e.

However, your pronunciation of Kage bothered me a bit, as the real pronunciation, using Japanese as the base is 影 (Ka-ge; -ge like “gable” or “guy”). The kanji character means shadow.
Your pronunciation used the /dʒ, like “giant” or “Gerard”.
Sorry for getting technical, m8. Maybe that’s what you use with Received Pronunciation, but the Japanese is the way to go for this SF character. Maybe this correction gets you mad, and fuels your inner demon 😱😈

Akuma is base. That’s just him. Shin akuma is kinda like super saiyan goku: he’s just learning to tap into his power (you play as him. He has insane offence and his defence sucks. You really have to know how to play as him bc a few hits and you’re dunzo. He’s mega op). And oni is straight up demon akuma. I’ve never played him and I really don’t want to.

"Akuma" is the normally playable version, a watered down version of the "true" Akuma. "Shin Akuma" is the "true" version of himself, usually a non-playable/secret select version. And "Oni" is Akuma embracing the very embodiment of his satsu no hadou, true murderous intent, essentially transformed into a full-on demon!

I loved the concept of kage but didn't like how he moved and how he fought. This kind of concept especially with Ryu is a delicate thing to go with. It can breathe new life into an existing character or be outright bad all together. Which is what I believe kage would ultimately be.
You can't get away with a pallet swap Ryu/ Akuma anymore like in 99 but you can't make his fighting ability to be inferior to the character he's based off of either. Kage as a concept is ok I guess but Akuma already fills that role and does it far better so where does kage fall then... If Akuma was removed for a few games including DLC from now on then kage might can grow and do the job but as long as Akuma like Juri keep appearing in games due to overblown fan popularity there's not much of a place for kage other than a loose based what if scenario.
