HOW TO REDACT THE RIGHT WAY

Today, I talk about how to redact a PDF the right way (and also how to redact a PDF the wrong way, which could lead to some embarrassing esults, to say the least). While there is a lot of software out there that can handle this function, today I will be using Adobe Acrobat DC. Older versions of Acrobat Pro and Standard will work. The free Adobe Reader will not.

You should disclose at the beginning of the video that Redact function is an add-on paid function that is not available in the free reader version. Waste of time!

I only have two options in the middle with the redact tool. How do I get the other options? Also, I have three pdfs which won’t allow me to apply, it is grayed out.

Is sanitizing now relevant step to redact in docs such as disc? You left it out since it is new to Pro but is it a final step in assuring redaction done properly?

Yes in Adobe Acrobat pro you can use the Find and Redact command to search for specified words as well as text patterns such as social security numbers.

is it necessary to remove meta data? after you mark a doc for redaction is there a way to search for those "marked" without going page by page?

i can't answer that first question for you. other than with: it depends.

Not entirely true. If you add the black rectangle boxes and PRINT the PDF file as an image file and/or remove all metadata tags the redacted areas will not display in layers. Not even on illustrator or photoshop. You just have to know what your doing. Plus, you can set encryption and passwords on the pdf file too.

What, the ethics of reading the underlying information in a poorly redacted electronic document? Lol... has anyone ever been sanctioned or disbarred for that?
