  • Bookmarks are a quick and easy way to make your dense or voluminous PDFs a breeze to navigate through. It's a feature that I used daily back when I was a law clerk at a personal injury firm and when I was a law student.

    You did an outstanding job explaining how to add bookmarks in a pdf! Thank you! Of all the CZcams videos I watched trying to figure it out, you're the only person to provide such a clear explanation.

    1) Be sure to explain the acronyms you use. You blasted through some blurb on "OCR". Well, I know what OCR means because I've been an engineer for 40 years. You know what "OCR" means. There are a lot of people out there who don't. Those people were immediately lost when you did that.
    2) Creating Bookmarks - In summary, you said "Select text, right click on it, select Add Bookmark." I was able to select the text, and right click on it. There was no "Add Bookmark" option in the menu which opened up. I saw somewhere else on the web that the security settings on the document have to be configured to allow bookmarks to be added. You didn't mention that, nor how to set the security settings to allow, if, in fact, the document of interest will allow the security settings to be configured like that.
    You get an A for effort. But the end result had enough holes in in it early enough that I just quit watching it.

      i'm sorry to hear that you had difficulties.
      was the document you were working on password protected or otherwise locked down with security features? or are you on a corporate/IT managed install of Acrobat?

    When you are creating the bookmarks, and then arranging them, how do you go back out to the left edge in the list of bookmarks, after you have done subheadings, and you want to go on to another main heading?

    If I have a fully bookmarked document and either replace a page or add one or more, how do you keep from losing the bookmarks? I'm told that people are losing bookmarks a large pdf's when a team member has to edit the pages they provided and replace what's in the pdf or another page(s) need to be added. Outstanding tutorial, BTW! Quick learning in 5 minutes.

    Love this video! The video shows that blue-highlighting is preserved along with a bookmark definition - that would be an ideal option as bookmarks lose their power when you still have to search through a page for a specific reference. However, the blue-highlighting *vanishes* once another item has been selected. Is there a way to permanently preserve the highlighting of the originally selected item (short of manually highlighting the item in question)? Thanks!

    Your video is already a bit old, but I have a pdf with option prices for 280 products, and I want to have a bookmark for every product, which by hand is a lot of work, and to add to that, we have 10 channels so I would have to do this 10 times. Is there a way to tell Adobe DC 'make a bookmark of every test that is 12pt (the product headers are 12pt medium weight while the rest is 11pt normal weight).

    The attorney wants to link the Word document chronology to the OCR'd PDF medical records. Is there some way to do that? I have tried numerous things and nothing works!! Help!

    • @MikeKoGTC
      @MikeKoGTC  Před 5 lety

      i'm not sure there is a way to do that if you need to keep Word as the starting point.
      i would recommend converting the word document to PDF, add it to the beginning or the end of the medical record PDF, and link from there. if it's a matter of needing to be able to make changes or edits to the chronology, one workaround could be to then edit the pdf where you can add, edit, or delete text.
      or if this is something that you need to do a lot of, i would recommend looking at a tool specifically designed to do something like this, such as document review software. CaseMap, although old (and I'm not sure one can even get it anymore) is what you are looking for. iPro has recently released (or is about to release) Case Story, which is nearly identical.

    • @kathiecondon1330
      @kathiecondon1330 Před 5 lety

      @@MikeKoGTC thank you for your reply. You can still get CaseMap and I use it a lot in my legal nurse consulting business. Problem was the attorney I was working for did not want to use CaseMap. The attorney wanted to have the chronology on a screen during court and be able to click a hyperlink to show the information in the medical records on another screen. I will continue working to see if there is a way to do this.

    • @MikeKoGTC
      @MikeKoGTC  Před 5 lety

      we make those all the time for our clients. timelines in powerpoint with each fact hyperlinked to the underlying document. click again to get back to the main timeline.
      but for what you're thinking, can you put link in the word documents to the pdfs and then print that word doc to pdf?
      just brainstorming here, but i think that would get you what you wanted. i would just need to test (1) whether word allows external links and (2) whether external links would become embedded attachments within your pdf when converting from word to pdf.
