  • The Roccat Kone XP Air is the wireless variant of the Roccat Kone XP. It is made to be a top-of-the-line productivity and gaming mouse. As it comes with 15 buttons along with 2.4 GHz wireless, Bluetooth, and USB-C charging. It has an ergonomic right-handed shape. It also comes with an epic charging dock that has some pretty sweet RGB. Speaking of RGB the AIMO lighting does look particularly good on this mouse compared to others I’ve tried from Roccat. In today’s review we’ll be exploring everything this guy has to offer and if it is the right choice for your needs or not.

      @@GanDtech I think that’s an excellent choice. I’m currently testing out the basilisk V3 pro and really really enjoying it. While it is heavier than this mouse, and has less buttons, the specs and RGB lighting are better. I also personally like the shape, size, and clicks (all around better). as it more lives up to the price in my opinion. But the additional $70 dock is absolutely ludicrous.

      I picked up Razer's productivity mouse to use at work for long hours. I got it solely for comfort as it fits in my hand very well. It's the Humanscale collaboration model and is quiet and comfy and lasts a long time w/o charge since no RGB.

    I actually have 2 of them one black for my personal office and one that's white in my work office I love it personally I mapped the top two buttons on the left to copy and paste to save time and the tilt scroll wheel is great for excel
    I have actually noticed between my two mice the black mouse has a different sound completely than my white mouse

      That's awesome. I'm glad you are enjoying it in both your personal and professional life.
      The different sound is likely due to variance which is common. But sometimes it can be quite dramatic which again, unfortunately, is common with most brands. But in my opinion shouldn't be all that common at the top price ranges. But as long as they feel good that's really what matters the most.

    Hi, I'm planning on getting this mouse for Christmas and it has a discount for $130. This helped a lot. I play mainly fps games but my current mouse is 97 grams. I actually like heavier mice for some reason??? Do the buttons on the left primary get in the way? also I'm thinking about getting white. Thanks for the review on the mouse!

    • @ThomasMuehler
      @ThomasMuehler  Před rokem +1

      Everybody has a preference, none of them are right or wrong. If you like heavy mice that's great. I don't have any issues with the buttons on the left side of the primary clicks. However, I'm also very precise on where my fingers are so I'm not a good one to ask. I remember AGES ago when I first tried the Logitech G502 (which also have clicks on the left side of the primary mouse button) that I would occasionally hit them. But I acclimated quickly and since that time it hasn't ever been an issue again. But that will vary quite a lot based on YOU. As I get some comments of people who have a horrible time with some button placements (on multiple mice) or issues that I never get as it comes down to your own personal grip style and ability to acclimate. But I think in this case they are out of the way enough that it shouldn't be an issue. Also, I haven't heard any complaints in my comment section.

    I'll pick this up when it's close to $100. My main is the Kone Pro Air which I love and like the look of more. The shape and weight are perfect on the Pro Air but the rubberized grip on the Kone XP and added buttons, although poor looking travel, have me interested. All my Razer , Glorious and CM mice have taken a rest since getting the Kone Pro Air, as I'm a sucker for wireless mice being on sale at the local Micro Center.
    Nice overall review of this mouse, which appears heavy but I can't see how it can be much lighter with that many buttons / switches.

    • @ThomasMuehler
      @ThomasMuehler  Před rokem +1

      I definitely think it will get there on a sale. I’ve heard to Kone XP shape is very similar to the Kone Pro Air just with more buttons. But I haven’t tried the Kone Pro Air so can’t say myself. Travel could also vary wildly from device to device. I think I just got unlucky. I also agree, I don’t think they could make it too much lighter with everything it has. The only thing that could that would be easy to do would be the RGB lighting. But that would probably not be significant enough to justify getting rid of it.

  • @anthonyleblanc4645
    @anthonyleblanc4645 Před rokem

    Great review. Is this the best productivity mouse out currently do you feel (better than new g502 and others)? I also use a dedicated gaming mouse (g pro superlight) when gaming. Does this mouse have onboard memory? As a radiologist I sign into different pc workstations often and can’t feasibly download the software on every pc I login to for work. Thinking about purchasing this mouse despite the price tag.

    • @ThomasMuehler
      @ThomasMuehler  Před rokem +2

      I haven't looked at all the productivity mice there are. So I don't know if I can definitively say that it is the BEST. With that said coming from a productivity standpoint yes, I think it is the best and/or would be hard to beat. I used to use the G502 all the time and recently got the Basilisk V3 Pro and think this mouse is better for productivity. It will have the same specs as most other gaming productivity mice on the market (such as the G502) so that is going to be a wash. The Basilisk V3 Pro technically is better all around spec wise which is good for gaming but not good for productivity. It will be a lot better than the Logitech MX Master spec wise. Shape wise I think it is going to be very similar with all three of them. I like the Basilisk feel a bit more overall as it is a bit smaller and fits my hand better. RGB lighting is also better, but I wouldn't be using that at work. Infinite scroll wheel is a plus. But you miss out on a lot of buttons. So I really think it comes down to those two mice. But with the increased buttons I give it to the Roccat.
      Yes, it does have 5 onboard memory slots. Add that to the 15 buttons or 29 with hypershift (thats not the correct name but I'm too lazy to look you know what I'm talking about) x5 and you have 145 combinations you could use without software. You can also make it (if you can install the swarm software on your main work computer) open certain profiles when you open a certain application. Along with long battery life and great comfort I definitely think it is a winner. And you can store the dongle it in making it easy for travel. Then just plug it in at home on the dock at the end of the day and that way it is always charged.
      If you get it I would love to hear your thoughts on it.

      @@ThomasMuehler thanks for much for your response. I ordered it and it is arriving tomorrow. I use a lot of button assignments and macros (using auto hot key). A lot of radiologists I know like the mx3s due to infinite scroll wheel but I use a toggle scroll hot key on my mouse assignment and drag to scroll which I feel is easier for large stacks of images. I will get back to you my thoughts on the roccat . I also ordered an xtrfy m4 mouse which arrives Tuesday which I may use or return if I like it. Watched your review on that too. I recently found your channel, I like your in depth reviews with touches of sarcastic humor haha. Reason I bought that m4 is because I have large size hands (21x11.5cm) and palm grip, and I am looking for a large light mouse to fill out my hand with palm (tough to find…) This roccat may be best for productivity/button assignment capability but I occasionally like to switch to a lightweight mouse. May also order a lamzu Atlantis to try out once they supposedly restock around 9/15. I plan on returning the ones I don’t like. DAV3 is nice and big but I wouldn’t say it fills out my hand like a glove.

      @@anthonyleblanc4645 I really enjoy the Xtrfy M4 as they did a great job with that mouse. I think you’re going to enjoy it. I definitely would love to get your thoughts on that one as well. I continue to hear great things about the Lamzu Atlantis so I’ll probably have to try it out as well. I think people are finally catching up to my thoughts on why I thought the Razer Viper Ultimate and Razer in general were killing it ages ago as their sensor and other tech was just ahead of the game and I could feel the difference. Now that people are getting it in a mouse that have better shapes they are starting to feel the same thing. Or at least that’s my two cents and I could be completely off. As a mouse is more than just the specs and it seem like they nailed the other 50%. As for the Deathadder it is also great but if it doesn’t fit in your hand well then that changes things. Did you try the newest version or did you try an old one? As the new version did go through a shape change that I think made a big difference.

    • @anthonyleblanc4645

      @@ThomasMuehler That's interesting. I actually enjoy the DAV3 a lot. It's obviously got fantastic specs and is a pretty large mouse and solid for palm grip. I just don't feel like it has the perfect shape for me in terms of "endgame." Tbh, the mx3 has a great shape that fills out my hand but it is very heavy and not great for non-office use. I'll let you know what I think about the m4. I think shape really is king and there don't seem to be a lot of mice tailored to the palm/large niche. Thanks again for your feedback. Curious, what are your top 3 or so mice you currently use/think are the best? Also - do you have any recs on best overall wireless keyboard? I see some of your videos used to cover keyboards.

    • @ThomasMuehler
      @ThomasMuehler  Před rokem

      @@anthonyleblanc4645 I would agree with your findings of the DAV3. It's got an above average shape but definitely isn't "endgame".
      Also, I would agree that larger mice are definitely not the norm. I'm kind of hoping that with the DAV3 going through the weight loss mod that it will change up the market and we will see more large mice that aren't bricks. While I think there is a market for that I think there is another market for lighter large ergo mice that is under represented currently.
      As for the top lists. It has been a while since I've gone and looked. So I may be missing some.
      My top three currently.
      1. Tied Razer Viper V2 Pro/Deathadder V3 Pro (depends on which shape you like best).
      2. Tied Razer Viper Ultimate/Logitech G Pro X (GPX is aging specs wise but still top of the line).
      3. Finalmouse Starlight 12 (VERY expensive, huge QA problems, do not recommend actually buying. But still a top-tier performer if you can get a flawless copy).
      4. Heard great things about Pulsar.
      Productivity:
      1. Tied with the Roccat Kone XP Air and Razer Basilisk V3 Pro. As both are excellent but in different ways. Kone XP due to buttons. Basilisk to me just feels a bit more premium all around, top of the line specs, but less buttons.
      2. Logitech G502/G502X (Just solid all around but I think cost due to popularity has continued to increase and has gotten to the point it is too much for what you get for a mouse that's been around for forever).
      Wired:
      1. Xtrfy M4 (They just nailed this all around)
      2. Razer Viper Mini (Limited by the 3335 sensor. But otherwise great. But small shape)
      3. Xtrfy MZ1 (Unique shape best for fingertip. Now comes wireless but I haven't tried that. With top of the line specs).
      4. I've heard great things about Zowie but never tried any as to me the specs are too old to justify cost.
      Budget:
      1. Razer Orochi V2 (Great feel, top of the line specs)
      2. Steelseries Aerox 3 2022 edition (Only when on sale for around $50. Again, spec wise did well along with everything else).
      3. Glorious Model O- Wireless

    Nice review! Two questions regarding erognomy
    Doesn't the button under the thumb sometimes get accidentally pressed by thumb rest on in?
    Don't the extra buttons next to the left main button limit the space here?

    • @ThomasMuehler
      @ThomasMuehler  Před rokem

      1. Great question on the thumb, yes/no. Hard to explain... The thumb button itself is a bit separated from the bottom of the mouse. So there is a small ridge that the side of your thumb can sit on before it presses the button to prevent accidental clicks. Making it so you either have to roll your thumb a bit or extend it out to click it. Also, the force required for the button itself I think is just right where it isn't super light or super stiff making it even if you rest on it a bit that it isn't enough to actuate. Or at least for me and my grip style that is the case. Results will likely vary here a bit.
      2. I don't think so. As I personally find there is plenty of room for the thumb to roam on the left side with the other side buttons being high enough and out of the way that you have to be very deliberate to click them. Again, I think this may vary for people. I tend to be very aware of where my hand is even when aiming quickly. But I still think that the likelihood of you/someone hitting it accidentally (especially on a regular basis) is unlikely. As there is more room there than you would think.

    I wonder when people mention weight/button force as an issue, how much it matters in practice. We're mostly adults, and I'm an adult male. I can't tell the difference between 65g and 99g and I've used mice at both weights for hours with no issues. Unless I'm using a digital force gauge on the buttons, would I notice any difference in click force, rebound, post travel etc? Seems like we've all decided to pretend these things matter to justify the continual (and pyrrhic/unending) search for the 'endgame'. Good review, thanks for mentioning productivity since some of us work in between gaming (some reviewers seem to forget).

    • @ThomasMuehler
      @ThomasMuehler  Před rokem

      I appreciate your two cents. For the most part I do agree with your sentiments. But at the same time think in some fringe cases that I would disagree. I go more in-depth in my reviews for people watching the videos than I really care about in real life for my own personal use. But as the price goes up the more critical I also get. As I think if you are going to charge an excessive amount on a product you need tangible reasons to justify that price. So, think this is all multifactorial depending how into the weeds we wanna go.
      1. Totally agree for the most part with weight/button force. For the mass majority of people it won't matter. And I do think a part of it is that gaming mice are so excellent that we do start to break them down to things that really don't matter that much and we are splitting hairs. However, I do find that if you are a high performing FPS competitive gamer that having a lighter switch with low pre/post travel does give you a slight competitive advantage. Or any type of game where click speed/spamming is utilized on a regular basis. Best way I can sum that up is go watch Wooting 60E videos. The thing that makes that keyboard the best gaming keyboard on the market is the fact that you can pretty much eliminate pre/post travel in both directions, and it really does give you a competitive edge. I wasn't fully sold on that keyboard until I tried it. Now I don't want to game with any other keyboard. I mention Grid Shot down below. Do that with a mouse that isn't fine tuned and you'll also notice a decrease in performance.
      2. I can tell a pretty big difference between 99 and 65 grams. Same with 65 to 45 grams. But it is mostly dependent on the game you are playing and the aiming that you're doing. Launch Gridshot on Aimlabs and try that with a 99 gram mouse then a 65 gram mouse and you'll feel a difference. Go play Escape From Tarkov or any other non-fast paced game and you probably won't.

      @@ThomasMuehler thanks for taking the time to address my comment. You made some great points, particularly about people who play at a certain skill level. I can use a mouse all day for design work but wouldn't notice things like click latency/force because they don't impact my workflow. Add in I mostly play RPGs and point/click, and I'm obviously not the target market. Even if the "weight race" doesn't interest me, I'm glad new products keep pushing the envelope to keep things interesting for mouse nerds :) and the Wooting boards are incredibly innovative; I want one but absolutely don't need one.

    i never really look for other company mouse because of easy shift, the way i can press on the mouse to e.g. "play/puase" or skip track etc.
    the other major isus for me with wire version was the "4 buttons" on the side of the mouse, for me on the wire version it was a bit off.

Which both eat into any margin that is there for a product and if the product already had a small margin the only choice they have is to make it more expensive. So, yes materials, shipping costs, getting all the different certifications, molding, etc. are all quite expensive these days.

    my experience with roccat has been lackluster to say the least. Ive had two mice from them and both time i had the mouse wheel break on me. however, both times i was able to get a warranty claim completed. so while their service was relatively easy (they didnt make it hard at all or give me the run around, and responded with in a day for each message) i have little trust in their build quality.

      i've also taken apart many mice and i have to say logitch has been pretty consistent in very good build quality. razer is very close behind, but the roccat is a bit lower in that department imho

      @@DaBomb5309 I appreciate you taking the time to share your experiences with me. Also, good to hear that their support is relatively painless. As some companies are hardcore about that stuff.
      I would agree with the build quality. While they feel solid to me there are little things that prevent me from thinking they are on the same level as Razer or Logitech. Both are at the top with Logitech being a bit moreso. But Logitech has also disappointed me a bit seeing as they haven’t really done anything new or ground breaking for the past four years. So I would hope that their tried and trusted products would be a step ahead as they have had a lot of time to iron it out. Not saying they were bad previously. In that time Razer has drastically stepped up their game as well which isn’t doing them any favors.

    Brick! I call the brand Roe Cat, and I'll continue doing so because rocket is spelled "rocket" 😁. And also, there's a literal cat in the logo, so you cannot not have cat in the pronunciation.

      See, I'm with you 100%. But then I hear people that work for the brand call it Rocket. So I'm like crap. You guys suck at naming your company! lol
      I'm not sure if you watch Mythic Quest or if do what season you are on. But to be as spoiler free as possible there is a scene about three writers and one of them makes a short story with a funky name where everyone but him pronounces it one way and he always corrects them to pronounce it his way. I think it is "tears of anacrone" or something. And he says it is tear (like tear a paper) instead of tear (as in a tear in the eye) along with a fancy over pronunciation of anacreon. And I feel like that is what is happening with Roccat.

      @@ayefare Oh no! I'm the worst! I 100% forgot about this.
      I find the Kone to be more comfortable. As they nailed the comfort grooves. It just molds right into my hand. As the thumb groove is quite deep but just the right size for my thumb to nestle in. Also, it flares on the right side fitting my fourth and fifth finger perfectly for support. Whereas the Deathadder has less overall grooves and is more of a solid shape (in the sense that the adjustments are minor in comparison). The thumb groove is a lot larger and just a generalized area. The right side also flares outward more. So instead of my fourth and fifth digit having space between them they more lay flat in the forward position on the groove. Hump seems a bit more pronounced on the DAV3 as well. The back taper is more aggressive on the Roccat. Along with the front buttons goes lower. With the DAV3 it is less of a taper off the back has a large mid hump, and then sits higher for the primary clicks. Which is why I think the Roccat feels more comfortable as it naturally takes the shape of your hand in a resting position better.
      Coating is better on the Roccat. Just feels more grippy. Almost like a rubber.
      Weight balance on both are excellent. But the DAV3 is quite a bit lighter.
      Primary clicks are better on DAV3. More consistent, less travel, and more snappy. There seems to be mild variance with the Roccat. And they have more overall travel making them feel a bit mushy. Left and right click sound a lot different. Same goes with the side buttons. In the sense that DAV3 are more consistent, less travel, more snappy. But limited to two. Whereas, the Roccat has a lot more but feel similar to the primary clicks with more travel and a bit more mushy. But I would say feel great overall. As the DAV3 is one of the best gaming mice on the market. So to be similar is an excellent achievement. The button near the bottom of your thumb on the Roccat is epic and I love it.
      Scroll wheel is great on both but the scroll wheel is tighter on the Roccat. I prefer the Roccat over the DAV3.
      PTFE are solid on both where I wouldn't consider third party.
      Roccat has more features as it comes with a charging dock and RGB. Along with more buttons.
      DAV3 is going to win performance wise. In every category (latency, 4,000/8,000 Hz, sensor). But I'd argue the Roccat is more of a casual game/MMO/productivity mouse. And stellar in that category. Where the DAV3 is more of a FPS/performance mouse that is large for palm grip that does well at being an office mouse as well. But is limited due to buttons.
