2:15 a country just came into European football... apart from Hungary already was runner up in the 1938 WC, and being the reigning Olympic Champions, and Hungarian club sides had won international club competitions (Tournament of Champions by Újpest, Mitropa cup by Ferencváros and Újpest)

Puskas, Kocsis... what fantastic players! And what a fantastic team Hungary was!

A team who scored three times at a night, had a World Cup Lesson, never allow an opponent to dig up own grave.

Yes the magnificent fabulous Hungarian team of the 1950s skippered by Ference Puskas were playing "Total Football" two decades before the Dutch and the West Germans did in the early 1970s.
That Hungarian team of 1953/1954 were ahead of their time.Indeed the likes of Puskas,Hidegkuti,Bozsik,Koscis,Lorant, and Budai were pioneers of Total Football.

believe it or not, my father trained with the golden team for years as a junior, and would have played for them had it not been for the hungarian revolution.... he passed on the genetics tho, I was invited to play for my national team at the age of 16, so not too surprised by hungary´s dominance during that era....but I love Robson´s humility and genuine admiration for the game of football, because I´ve played against great players, and enjoyed every minute of watching them dazzle...

Followed up in May 1954 with a 7-1 demolition, just in case we hadn't learned the lesson of this Wembley defeat. Lead to changes needed to win World Cup in 1966. Certainly Sir Alf remembered.

That afternoon on 25 November 1953 Hungary meted out a 6-3 defeat to England at Wembley.
It was England's first defeat to a foreign side at Wembley.
England just a few months back were fortunate to escape with s 4-4 draw with the Rest of the World at Wembley.
But this time with Hungary there was no escape. It was soccer revolution when the Hungarians came to Wembley.Their interchanging short passes, their body swerves and their brilliant understanding sent England reeling to a shock 6-3 defeat.

That's the result of football conservatism in England : if you don't want to learn anything, one day life gives you a tough lesson.
Football was played better on the continent(s) than in England since the 30s to say the least, but they had to wait a couple of decades to realize it, and they needed to get through humiliation to do so.
Even a few months later when they had a chance of getting revenge in Budapest, they had learnt nothing and were beaten 7-1.
