Pattani was part of Malaya (now Peninsular Malaysia) & was the 'sister state' that was forgotten in the long history of West Malaysia. After been taken by the Siamese with the help of the British, the state was broken into small pieces of territories like Yala, Satun, Hatyai, Narathiwatt etc... it is now know as the 'Southern Thailand.' The native people of the Southern Thai are Malay Muslim & they still speak in Malay language.

His sons built the sultanate of Perak and Johor. That's why Malacca didn't have a sultan, but the sultanate of Perak and Johor was the same bloodline as the last Malacca sultanate...

The Malay Peninsula was once called SuwarnaBhumi or Bumi Emas by Indian traders and travelers. Plotemy, Greek philosophers and naturalists called it Golden Chersonese which means Golden Peninsula
    .
Why is the Malay Peninsula so named? Is it because there is gold in abundance here. But one thing is for sure that this peninsula is located on the main route that connects two important oceans namely the Indian Ocean and the South China Sea which is the main trade route of the two great civilizations namely the Indian civilization and the Chinese civilization.
The clash of these two great civilizations has featured the Malay Peninsula as the trading center of Southeast Asia at that time. Apart from Asian nations such as Arabs, Indians and Chinese, Europeans, although they began to come to trade but then became greedy and began to interfere in internal political affairs and subsequently seek opportunities to colonize.
Apart from its strategic location in the middle of the main sea trade routes, the Malay Peninsula is also rich in natural resources. The stable weather throughout the year and the lush greenery make it an attractive location for business and settlement.

The Malay Peninsula is also rich in minerals such as gold and tin. The delivery of a tribute of gold flowers to Siam (now, present day Thailand) confirms the earth is rich in gold. The Malay Peninsula is also rich in forest products and exotic materials such as bird's nests, sandalwood while its various animal species make it a lucrative hunting place.
But one thing that is no less interesting is the hospitality of the indigenous people who always respect guests, generous and do not seek strife, but even love harmony and peace that promises each visitor well -being.
For these reasons, the Malay Peninsula is called the Golden Peninsula because of the treatment of gold by the indigenous people, the golden opportunity from trade profits and indeed the earth is rich in gold.

The spread of Islam in the Malay archipelago began in the 13th century and reached its peak in the 16th century AD also contributed to this rapidity. Traders from Arab and Indian Muslims were mostly also missionaries and they were the ones responsible for spreading Islam in the region. However, there is also evidence that shows that Islam also entered from the east, that is, brought from China, spread to Cambodia and to the east coast of the Malay Peninsula. The inscription stone found in Terengganu is a proof of the possibility of such a occurrence.
Arab and Indian Muslim traders came here solely to trade and preach. They have no intention of politics or colonization. Therefore, their presence does not cause anxiety and instead Islam is easily spread.
In the days of the old Malay Sultanate, the right to trade was the exclusive right of the rulers. They are the ones who own the mines, hold the right to produce forest products, hold the power to collect taxes including the privilege to export all the produce. Their business partners were Arab and Indian Muslim traders. From here the influence of Islam spread and from here there is cooperation between the two parties.

    • @AbdulRahman-zy1yj

Arab traders often did not stay long in Malaya. They carry out their da'wah responsibilities by teaching religions such as fardhu ain and reciting the Quran. Indian Muslim traders, on the other hand, often stopped longer and more often in Malaya.
This created a closer relationship between them and the kings and consequently most of the business of the kings was managed by Muslim Indian traders. They are the ones who manage the export of the produce belonging to the kings because they have the trust of the kings and are full of experience.
We used to hear the word mamak bendahara in old Malay stories. Mamak means uncle, due to their skills in managing the business, some of them were appointed by the king to be treasurers, hence the title of mamak treasurer.
Prosperity in the region has invited European traders to the Malay Peninsula, but their presence has a far different effect when compared to the presence of Asian traders. European traders came to the region with the aim of seizing the monopoly of Asian traders in the spice business. As Europe promises a huge market for spices then there are companies in the form of cartels in Europe that aim to dominate the spice business in Asia. From this arose the British and Dutch East India Company.

Melaka in particular has been the focus of European traders. As a trade center in the Malay Peninsula, Melaka, founded by Parameswara, who hails from Palembang, offers good port infrastructure sheltered from the monsoon winds as well as a systematic shah bandar administration. The position of Melaka in the middle of the Straits of Melaka makes it very strategic. The pro-trade attitude of the Malacca government further strengthens the reason why Malacca managed to grow rapidly to become a focal point for European traders in the Malay archipelago.

Three times they tried to attacked Malacca and only succesfull on the third attacked (1511) because there was traitors in the Malacca Empire. Bunch of spies/allies with the Portugese. Aceh with the help of Ottoman Empire tried to retaked Malacca with around 300 war ships but they failed because at the time, Johor also war with Aceh. Before the presence of colonizers from the West, (Dutch in Indonesia & British in Malaysia), all ethnic groups tht existed at tht time lived in an area called the archipelago (Nusantara). In the 12th century, the relationship between several empires & sultanates on the island of Sumatra with the Malay community in the Malay Peninsula, such as the Srivijaya Empire & the government tht existed in the Malay Peninsula, the Malacca Empire & the Majapahit Kingdom, the Islamic Kingdom of Demak formed the Islamic Kingdom of Pasai etc. This relationship was close & separate only when Western colonialists controlled the archipelago. In fact, historical factors have also divided the Malay Archipelago community.

KEDAH TUA (OLD KEDAH) AND LANGKASUKA
    KEDAH:
    Langkasuka Earliest Center
    (200-750 M)
    Author/Compiler: DR IBRAHIM BAKAR LANGKAWI
    INTRODUCTION
Until now, we do have a suspicion, that 'Langkasuka' can be associated with the state of Kedah, but the real evidence is still very little for us to highlight.
One of the main sources of information about Langkasuka that is known to many is the historical record of the Liang Dynasty (c. 500 AD), which tells of the state of "Lang-ya-xiu". At the time the note was written, the state was already very large, covering the East Coast and West Coast of the Peninsula. The state is said to have been established about 400 years before this record was made, but it is not stated explicitly where its center of power was.
Other Chinese records, such as Wu-pei-chih, have stated quite emphatically that the center of Langkasuka was on the East Coast, around present-day Singgora.

However, there are also stories from several sources that we can conclude that the position of the state is on the West Coast.
In Hikayat Merong Mahawangsa, it is only mentioned too briefly about this name. He said: 'So Raja Merong Mahawangsa went to see the outline of the land where the palace hall was to be built, accompanied by giants with all the ministers and then met with a good earth, too beautiful a place with its land, so no one came down to his ark, crazy by making the city of the palace with its halls that are too big and beautiful. After the hall, he was named 'LANGKASUKA' because…. '
In At-Tarikh Salasilah Negeri Kedah, there is also evidence that only relates loosely. He said: ‘Hatta, then Tan Dermadewa and Tun Perkasa and other chiefs gathered in the front hall to face Maharaja Derbar Raja, then he said that he wanted to name the city and also want to confer the rank of ministers. When the consensus was broken, the city was named KOTA LANGKASUKA.

    • @muhamadamirulhafiz2852
      @muhamadamirulhafiz2852 Před 2 lety +8

However, there is a lot of information about the history of Langkasuka in an old book entitled ‘TARIKH PATANI’ meaning 'Date of Pattani' (The original spelling is: ڧتاني تاريخ), written by Tuan Sheikh Faqih Ali Al-Fathani, around 1450 AD. Strictly speaking, this author has stated that the earliest center of Langkasuka government was in Kedah. After that, the center of the Langkasuka kingdom moved to the East Coast of the Peninsula. Apart from that, it is also stated that the descendants of the Langkasuka kings on the East Coast, followed by the Pattani kings later, are also descended from Kedah.
After that, the name Langkasuka continued to be known on the East Coast. During the Song dynasty (960-1279) it is recorded as "Lang-ya-se-chia". During the Yuan Dynasty (1279-1368) as “Long-ya-si-jiao” and during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) as “Lang-se-chia”. Subsequently, the state was transformed into the State of Patani.

      ABOUT THE REFERENCE BOOK:
Reference book: The author's reference book is a book written by Rumi, edited by Wan Mohd Shaghir Wan Abdullah Al-Fathani, published by Khazanah Fathaniyah, Kuala Lumpur, in 2000. The original book was a writing by Sheikh Faqih Ali, then copied by Sheikh Daud bin Abdullah Al-Fathani in 1813 AD (equivalent to 1228 AH). Later, the copy book written in Jawi was edited by the editor above.
Original author: The original book was written by Sheikh Faqih Ali bin Wan Muhammad bin Sheikh Syafiuddin bin al-Abbasi al-Fathani.
Date the book was written: The original book does not state the date of its writing. Based on Wan Mohd Shaghir's study, Sheikh Faqih Ali is the grandson of Sheikh Syafiuddin who came to Pattani in around 1400 AD. It is therefore estimated that the book Tarikh Patani was written by Sheikh Faqih Ali before 1500 AD (see page 4). Most likely it was written in around 1450 AD. Therefore it is one of the oldest books on Malay history, especially Pattani, ever written.

Source of reference: This history book was written on the orders of the Sultan of Patani. According to Sheikh Faqih Ali: “The servant of a useless, despicable person, Sheikh Faqih Ali bin Muhammad bin Shafiuddin was told by the sultan many times, to try to compose and compile Tarikh Patani for fear of losing the history of ancient stories. And even the servants try to follow the orders of the noble sultan. ”
For the purpose of assisting the author, the sultan has 'narrated very many stories' and 'can (= obtain/obtain) writings commemorating the descendants of the ancestors of the original King of Patani of the old qurun.' That is, apart from oral evidence, Sheikh Faqih Ali was given by the Sultan of Patani at that time many notes relating to the genealogy of the kings, written in several languages. Among them are (1) Hindi and Buddhist sources (Pallava writing?), (2) Arabic sources, (3) Javanese sources, (page 7), (4) Chinese sources, also cited but the original source is not stated ( page 9).
Although Sheikh Faqih Ali expressed his difficulty in completing this work of writing, saying: 'And the poor servant desperately wanted to compose this date, because the old date was many Buddhists and Hindus', but he was able to complete it with the help of several others to translate the language. -language he does not understand.

The system of government of the Sultanate of Melaka (Malacca) THE formation of Islamic rule has taken place gradually in the archipelago, starting from the stage of the spread of Islam to the stage of application of Shariah, until finally creating an Islamic Government and Government. Compared to Samudera-Pasai which is the center of the development of Islamic da'wah, the emergence of Melaka with the Islamic System of Government is more prominent. Although relatively, the existence of Melaka is contemporaneous with Samudera-Pasai, but because Samudera-Pasai inherited Perlak which existed since 840M, then the development of the Islamic System of Government in Melaka received more attention. The background of the Islamic Kingdoms in North Sumatra was more influenced by the Arab-Persian-Indian tradition, as their Kings were associated with those countries, while Melaka truly inherited and represented the Malay Islamic civilization. The existence of Melaka, which is an extension of the Sriwijaya Kingdom, has shown the merger of the Islamic System of Government with the tradition of the Malay Kingdom in the archipelago.
According to Auni Abdullah, the Islamic Government in Melaka has continued the previous tradition (Perlak and Samudera-Pasai) by creating the continuity of Islamic Rule and the implementation of the Shariah. Islamic rule in Melaka is more energetic, powerful and authoritative than the Islamic Kingdoms in North Sumatra, where Melaka is not only the center of Islamic civilization, but a political power capable of forming empires and being the focus of traders from around the world. The fact of the progress achieved by Melaka is due to the Islamic System of Administration and Government that is practiced. With the Islamic System of Government that is merged with the Traditional Malay System of Government has been able to build new strength to raise the position of Melaka in the political and economic fields. The tradition of Islamic rule applied from the leadership model of Rasulullah SAW and the Khulafa 'ar-Rashidin has created a new atmosphere in the life of the country for the Malays who were previously very devoted and sanctified the kings through the concept of "devaraja", to make the Sultan a shadow of God in on earth that is obeyed as long as they all obey Allah and His Messenger.

Prior to the establishment of Melaka, no kingdom of the Malay world used the term "Sultan" to refer to its King, except the King of Kedah, Sultan Muzaffar Shah who converted to Islam in 1136M. The use of the title Sultan has been a tradition in North Sumatra since 840M, then developed by Melaka since the Islamization of Parameswara around 1267M. In Islamic history, the term Sultan only appeared after the time of the Saljuk Dynasty (1037-1194M), whereas before that there was only a Caliph. Nizam al-Mulk (d. 1085M), a famous Saljuk leader and thinker, through his work, Siyasat al-Muluk says the Sultan is a legitimate institution in Islam, where he acts as the ruler holding power, while the Caliph remains the head of state. This opinion is also supported by the great scholars, Imam al-Juwaini (d. 1092M) and Imam al-Ghazali (d. 1111M). Their views became the basis for the existence of the sultanate system in Islamic Government in the archipelago.
Since the Sultans in the Malay World that existed since 840M, including the Sultanate of Malacca became the leaders of the ummah and the country, then it fulfilled the meaning of al-Ghazali when they ruled guided by Islam. According to al-Ghazali, the Sultanate is a necessity that is a bridge between religion and world affairs, which is responsible for enforcing the Shariah in the life of society and the nation as a whole. In the era of Melaka, due to this role, the Sultans wore the titles "Khalifatullah fil Ardh" (to lead the Earth by bringing message of Allah) and "Zilalullah fil Ardh" (Shadow of God on earth) to describe the role of the Sultan in the implementation of God's Law and the spread of religion- Nya. For that reason, although Melaka was an independent empire, it still had ties and submission to the Islamic Caliphs in Cairo (Daulah Abbasids) and Istanbul (Daulah Othmaniyah). Melaka still accepts that the Caliph is the leader of the believers (Amir al-Mukminin).

      Melaka administrative structure
Based on the Sultanate System, the Malacca Government maintained the tradition of Malay administration, where the dignitaries became administrators or Viziers with specialized portfolios. Basically, this system is based on the administration of the Malay Government in Palembang and Singapore, before the Islamic System was implemented. In the administrative system that began during the time of Sultan Muhammad Shah, the main chiefs of Melaka had four levels, namely Orang Besar Empat, Orang Besar Lapan, Orang Besar 16 and Orang Besar 32. The main administrators were Orang Besar Empat consisting of the Treasurer, Penghulu Bendahari, Temenggung and Admiral. The treasurer who became the Chief Minister of Melaka was the chief administrator (like the Prime Minister), with the most famous figure being Tun Perak. In addition, there are other positions that are the strengthening of the administration in Melaka, which is usually called Datuk, Penghulu, Tax Collector and Merchant. This structure reflects the orderliness of the administrative system of the Government of Melaka.

    • @jayawira9825
      @jayawira9825 Před 2 lety +5

As the chief administrator, the Treasurer was the Sultan's main adviser in matters of administration and foreign relations, giving instructions on national interests and guarding the instruments of greatness at the time of the Sultan's death, in addition to being Chief Justice and Chief Administration. Often the Treasurer first held the position of Temenggung and Penghulu Bendahari, before being appointed to the highest position, and wore the title of Seri Nara Diraja. Initially, the Treasurer was assisted by two Viziers, Temenggung and Seri Bija Diraja who were each responsible for peace and trade as well as the hulubalang in Melaka. Apart from being responsible for internal security, Temenggung, who holds the title of Seri Maharaja, is also the head of protocol and is responsible for Hulubalang Besar and Laksamana. The Penghulu Bendahari who was created later was the State Secretary and custodian of the national treasury, while the Syahbandar was the port supervisor and tax collector. During the reign of Sultan Mansor Shah, the post of Admiral was officially created as head of the navy, equivalent to the Seri Bija Diraja in charge of land defense. With the administrative structure and terms of reference of these leaders, Melaka has risen as an Islamic political power in the archipelago.

The influence of Islam in the system of government
The rule of the Islamic Sultanate based on the Malay administrative structure in Melaka has shown a strong Islamic influence when Sultan Muzaffar Shah made Islam the official religion of Melaka, thus placing Islam as the Policy of National Government. All state affairs were governed according to the rules of the Shari'ah and relations with the Islamic States, in particular the Caliphate in Cairo were strengthened. Sultan Muzaffar Shah then introduced the Malacca Canon Law and the Malacca Sea Law as the enforcement of Syariah Law, in which the post of Qadhi was created to handle the judicial affairs of the country under the Treasurer. The traditional Malay administrative elements were retained in the Malacca administration, but the Islamic elements were applied so that the traditional Malay elements did not conflict with the Syariah. The openness of Islam to accept the existing administrative systems, then applied with Islamic principles such as equality, justice, Syura and so on, has enabled Islam to play a major role in the Malay Sultanate in Malacca.

The more significant influence of Islam in the government in Melaka is with the involvement of scholars in government administration and the role of the government itself that supports the Islamic dakwah movement in the archipelago. Since Makhdum Syed Abdul Aziz became a religious teacher and advisor to Parameswara and Raja Kechil Besar, scholars such as Qadhi Yusof, Qadhi Munawar Shah, Maulana Abu Bakar and Maulana Sadar Jahan have served as advisors to the Sultan, Qadhi and also Shariah-based lawmakers. as the Laws of Melaka. The Melaka government also encourages the presence of foreign scholars to expand knowledge and preach in Melaka. Later, through educational activities, translation and writing that took place in palaces and mosques, also gave birth to preachers such as Sunan Gunung Jati and Sunan Kalijaga, who later with the support of the Government of Melaka, has expanded da'wah to all corners of the archipelago. It cannot be denied, that the role of the Islamic Government in Melaka greatly helped this da'wah process, so that scholars formulated Melaka as the center of the spread of Islam in the 15th century.
