- Watch Lester Kinsolving be unable to talk without a script he wrote for himself, and as Tom Leykis points it out, Morton Down eventually takes the script out of the guy's hand, causing outrage. Talk show chaos ensues.

Leykis 101 Baby !
I miss these days...30 years gone by too damn quick!
Morton thought he knew more than the professor.
Gotta love the old school bowl cut Leykis is rocking.
Before the PC America we have come to have known.
@TD TDay weirdo alert
I hate the pc movement to the core and one day we will look back and see it is the disease that lead to the downfall to this great nation
Love the way Tom handle everyone.
The only man on the show that is a real man,my dad,The Professor!
Despite what Tom Leykis' crowd might say, the prof has his oars in the water better than Tommy.
Bob Grant was a genius - such a professional
@@Madelyn5454And back in the 1970s and 1980s I made several phone calls to him about many subjects. My favorite all time talk radio show host Bob Grant. Born and raised in Chicago and lived in Woodbridge, New Jersey. Rest in Peace. 😢
Tom Leykis actually had a more successful career than Mort. Mort's show was on for only 2 years and he was bankrupt shortly after that.
Morton Downey Jr. was a liberal. It was all an act. One of his best friends was Ted Kennedy. His documentary film about his rise and quick fall is awesome.
Bob Grant had a far longer career in terrestrial radio than the two of them... Les Kinsolving wasn’t far behind. (I emphasize _terrestrial radio_ here.)
Morton Downey beat Johnny Carson when it aired at 11:30. When Arsineo Hall took the 11:30 slot, Ch 9 moved him to 12:30 but lost viewers against David Letterman on Ch 4.
@@ericsamuelson5656 So this was taped at KHJ-TV or WOR-TV?
@@ApartmentKing66 this was recorded from KABC Ch 7 Los Angeles which aired after Nightline
Wow, there was a lot of freedom in the 80s.
and people were happier.
11:46 FREEDOM! FREEDOM!
I miss it.
Love how Leykis likened the audience to barking dogs.
I'm gonna swing on Leykis' for a moment here. Say what you will about him but he's a master debater, a verbal villain and tower of indestructible confidence and power behind the mic. He's absolutely unstoppable! Just look at how he verbally massacred Morton Downey Jr. on his own show. Case & point, every time Tom threw a gab jab, Morton resorted to using his rowdy audience to drown out Tom. Effective but telling.
Thanks for the upload, this is classic.
king complex this comment is gold
did you say he's a master bater?
He's also a cunning linguist and amateur gynaecologists! 🤣
@@cheshire_skatkat9093That takes some talent! 😊
Those were the days when the white knights were everywhere. Tom makes very good points. I like the fact that Tom laughs right in his face. He's a young guy here with balls of steel.
Tom Leykis rules!
Wow Tom look so different back then! I was watching this show as a child in grade school, going into my junior high school years!
Bob Grant--the GOAT in talk radio!!
Pal! You can say that again!
I've only recently come across Tom and I agree with alot of what he says he's just brutally truthful and people don't like that
Tom Leykis is the only one left standing.
Tom woopin ass 30 years ago and he can make me laugh!!! 😂😂
Tom is the man.
Good job dad
tom not only went on to become much more successful than all these guys hes the only one who is still alive haha you showed them assholes professor.
Actually Les Kinsolving is still very much alive and has a talk show on Sunday evenings from 10pm to 1am here in Baltimore. He's 87 years old.
o well just one asshole, and im sure tom will outlast him. I wouldn't doubt tom's content and topics could be out done anyhow, meaning its far more interesting
65TossPowerTrap58DT Actually I listen to Tom - mostly on thursday night for Leykis 101, it's not to be missed.
@@deeptime5 Kinsolving died in 2018. Leykis still does a (paid) podcast.
Also Tom was much younger than all of them, just by numbers alone it’s not shocking at all that he is still living. 🤷♂️
Tom Leykis was a strong man back then too..he's grounded to his believes..that's what I like about him.
I remember this show so well, and really miss it.
Chain smoking Morton, I remember when he painted a swastika on his face and said he was mugged in the subway. Except he painted it on backwards (mirror), and it blew his story.
He died of lung cancer not surprising.
That intro alone would have a Twitter mob coming for you if released today.
True
Not to mention also the entire Biden..Harris Administration, the Washington D.C. swamp, and Hollywood. And in the end I say to them Kiss it pal!
We need tv like this today.
If only there was a TV network like this today. It would beat Newsmax, Fox News, NBC, ABC, CBS, CNN and last but not least but the worst of them all MSNBC the Mindless Senseless Nitwit Broadcasting Company!
Kinsolving just passed away last year, 2018, at the age of 90. I read a book on Jim Jones & the People's Temple recently, and it seems that even though Kinsolving comes across as a buffoon here, he was the first, and for a long time, the only person in San Francisco media to recognize Jones for the charlatan that he was, and his reportage was one of the main reasons why Jones fled the coop to Guyana.
Les was well known among the White House press while a correspondent for WCBM in Baltimore. His radio program was also very entertaining. It is true that Les was one of the few journalists to expose Jim Jones. The major media outlets ignored his reporting. He said that Brit Hume actually apologized to him after the murder and mass suicide of the Peoples Temple members.
@@chrispierce1739 Some of Jones' supporters & apologists are still around, Angela Davis & Kamala Harris' sugar daddy, Willie Brown, among them. (And they haven't changed a bit) Hollywood managed to make an Oscar winning movie about another one of them, Harvey Milk, without a single mention of his support for Jones.
I feel like I just watched video footage of the ninth circle of Hell.
Blow me up Tom.
I saw this when it first aired. I believe it aired in May or June 1988 on a Thursday. Big Bob Grant fan. Where's the rest of the episode?
This people! Is why I prefer talk radio to talk TV shows. You will not fall asleep! And this particular TV talk show was the best TV talk show in America and Bob Grant was the best daytime radio talk show host in America! I was around in those good old days in my old hometown of NYC. 😊
Tom! Tom! Tom! Tom! Tom Leykis!
Second that.
Third -
Fourth
Sexth that.
Tom is the man!
SMOKING ON THE AIR LOL HOLY FUCK
Tom Leykis 4 the win !!!
Bob Grant rules
Holy shit look how young Tom was
I vaguely remember this show and perhaps this episode...
Too much overlap talking which increased the tension.
Look at Tom, so different lookin.
Great show
11:46 FREEDOM! FREEDOM!
The crowd wasn't thinking about the overtone of what Tom was saying, they're taking it too close to the chest.
Tom was way ahead of his time Respect.
That’s me catching the coffee cup!
What was it like back then
Bob understood Hudson County, unlike the other two guys.
I’m 19 guys and Tom is my Professor.
Tom , Tom , Tom... The Professor
OMG - I saw this when it aired!!!
Thank you professor for enlightening my dating game.
Leykis is the only man in the room
Nah
great show
Some of the video editing here is too jarring and choppy, cutting the continuity. But the Morton Downey Jr. Show was daringly compelling and entertaining. It's stunning and sad that the show only lasted two years.
RIP Lester Kinsolving
I watched Alan Burke on tv when i was a teenager. Him and Joe Pyne.
Dudes show only lasted 2 seasons wtf love this guy
Man, a YOUNG Tom Leykis!
Tom Leykis is awesome.
Bob Grant always claimed that he was "sandbagged" when he appeared on this show-was told it would be a discussion of First Amendment issues and so forth, found himself sitting next to "this guy in an usher's jacket". His "friendship" with Morton Downey Jr. pretty much ended on that stage.
The guy in the ushers jacket is Les Kinsolving. He is still on the air here in Baltimore.
@Victor R. Les died in 2018. He lived to be 91 years old. He had an interesting career as a Minister, journalist and talk show host. He was about 60 years old in the video with Morton Downey.
That sigarette smoking looked so douche on that man.
Downey looks like a snail
"HEYYYYY!!!!!"
Morton put the s in shtick.
Bob Grant was the most dignified and mature of the bunch.
And they never gave him a chance to answer the question about alleged racism.
This is juicy
Morton should have been in the hot seat also considering he started in radio
I was looking for tom, fast forwarding lol didn't know was the dude with the beard
tom is bae.this guy cant even hold his ciggie up to tom!
Toms the fucking man
Tom Leykis is the OG Douche
But yah…..period to him for still being in the game
classic
The professor
Tom is the messiah
19:00 😂😂😂
Combover Boy? More like Bowlcut Boy heheh
Tom Leykis mushroom cut
Any chance this would fly today on TV? Maybe at an Ivy League college?
They would need to have new hosts, these guys are all dead.
lol
he had a better voice back then, too
Tom leykis went on to be 100 times bigger and RIGHT
Who is Tom Leykis, and Lester Kinsolving??
Geez. Such a total pissing match ego contest.
This was not even a complete show. If I could be a teacher of broadcast/journalism I would say make each episode have a complete ending. To me epilogues are important. When you write a book or create a video show just tie it up with a good ending.
Hahahahaha.
Checkout little Bobbie. A coward. Sam as Downey. Funny
Tom Leykis tiktok brought me here
lol great show
Tom Leiykis the Dad
Go wipe yo poopy diaper
@@email7362 im not even a girl wtf
Go send a email or something
Wally George is the forefather of all this.
Wally George was definitely awesome
Actually Joe Payne was in the 1960s
Morty.....
Is that the same Alan Berg that was murdered?
No. The man on this show's name is Alan Burke.
Toby Harris No, by this time Alan Berg had a bad case of lead poisoning !!!
Great episode from a great show. Did Morton ever have any KKK or white-supremist on his show? Hahaha
This looks like some sort of an act
They're all dead except Leykis.
was this filmed with a cheese grater?
Wow he’s like a baby
Who the host
80's was still the best
Tom Leykis came off like a bully. People who engage in brutal honesty are not cool, they are insecure, miserable, whiny brats with mommy issues. If a person feels he has to resort to insults to get his point across, it’s because he hates himself more than anything. That’s how I describe Tom Leykis.
morton failed so bad with the marriage and sex questions, 40 yrs later i still cringed
The guy with a stay-at-home wife is not a pimp, he's a john. Get your terminology straight, Leykis.
He said without kids and he is right
Did I just watch an hypocrite introduce the show?
Yep
Love Leykis but the older I get the more i realize his gimmick was kinda corny. It worked for the time but doesn't age well.
Quite a classic video.
Tom Leykis was the voice of reason here. No you read that right.
Bob Grant was his typical odious self
Lester Kinsolving though steals this show.
Strange days indeed.
So much of this is just nothing but show because Tom makes a LOT of great points only to be covered up by name calling and almost comedic handling of the show even by Morty. When I watched his show I never did it with any seriousness. I have been made to understand he had a bout with depression mostly over reflecting on how he treated people on his show.
I remember the morton show. I thought it was a piece of crap then...
Seeing it again 30 years later, I haven't changed my mind.
