Part 31 Revealing Mystery Moulds I Found on Gumtree

  • This is the series where I reveal what is inside these pottery moulds I found on Gumtree.
The story goes, I found a listing on gumtree for pottery stuff. When I arrived the seller said 'I have all these pottery moulds would you like them as well?' and I said 'why not'. On the way home, I had the brain child to do a social media video series revealing what each mould is.
The mystery is in the fact that I had no idea what I had said yes to, some of the moulds are labelled and easy to tell but some of them are a little more difficult. The beauty is that all of the plaster moulds surprise you no matter the presentation of labels, titles or identifiable surface inside.
So come join me as I dive into this series and share the mould fun. I would love to hear any information you may have on the moulds and to let me know any stories you have that the moulds remind you of in the comments.
Don't forget to like, comment and subscribe!

So this is months later so you might not see it BUT, for those that are curious:
This dress looks a lot like a Georgian-era English Court Debut style dress.
Tradititionally, these dresses had a really long train as they were intended for presentations to the Queen. In order to actually be able to walk around in them before and after their 'big moment' a court attendart would carefully gather the train behind her and then loop it in neat folds over her arm and it would look almost exactly like this. :)

While it was being painted, I thought, "Tulips!" but another comment thinks it IS the train of the dress being held. Yet another comment says it is called "Joan" & she may have flowers. I c/p'd the comments below. I think it would be great to use that space to customize it with different flowers or other items, tho :)

Quick search comes up with just a name of Joan for this mold, according to Alberta's price list. In their catalog, it looks like she's holding a bouquet of flowers. Was also surprised that a panther figure I've owned for a while was in their catalog.

She reminds me of these birthday girls that were popular in the 70's and 80's. The place on her arm could be where they would put a fancy number for the year. The ones I'm thinking of are sized to fit the age, and they are all in this kind of fancy dress.
You did a great job on this! I liked the idea of putting the holes in the skirt and making it like a tea light. You could make it a night light and put in a low watt bulb to be safer than the flame. Especially if it's going to little ones.
    Love this series! ❤️

I think she’s a birthday girl mold. They carry their birth month flower, and the molds are kinda generic so you can paint (or add on) the relevant flower bloom for the month. (The dresses are normally painted in the birthstone color for the month.) I used to “collect” them (ie was given) as a youngster in the 80s.

  • @ChibiChula
    @ChibiChula Před 2 lety +1

Very pretty! Except I'm fairly sure she was holding a bouquet of flowers that you missed. I think this would make fabulous night light too if you carve right through the dress area. Maybe simple holes but I can see using maybe some kind of clay cutter shapes like butterflies, stars or hearts. I'd go with a simple led bulb inside. Might be even better if you could get color changing lights inside but that would be expensive. Alternatively, a simple led tea light would work too.
Actually, if you could come up with a plate that fits the bottom it could even be one of those cone incense burners, but I (of course) would make sure to note that those wouldn't be appropriate for children (because common sense isn't as common as the name suggests, lol).
BTW, I love the pants you were wearing when you pulled out the mold at the beginning. 😁

Another way to do the fabric is to after bisque firing the base colour you can paint a watered down deeper shade over the fabric and sponge the colour off leaving some in the crevases I wipe across the piece not down

The part she's holding in her arms looks like it was supposed to be a flower bouquet, but for some reason the tops of the flowers have no carved details. However it definitely looks as though there were stems flowing down with trailing ribbons.

Oh, I found her in Alberta’s online catalog as suggested by someone in the comments. It is a bouquet she needs in the crook of her arm. I guess you have to make the flowers. Oh, that would be perfection. She also has a flower in her hair near her left ear. Shelby, you did a great job painting her. She’s your princess. But … I was raised with Barbie v Disney princesses. I think you gave her Barbie’s eyes. I suppose she’s the princess we each were looking for. She matches our own ideal.
