    Just came back to Holland after 6 weeks in the Baltics. Felt beautiful to be schooled (again) in what passion for freedom feels like. In Holland we take these things for granted, whilst the Baltics stand strong and sing (literally) with full force the importance of our European freedoms. ✊🇱🇹🇱🇻🇺🇦🇪🇪🇳🇱🇪🇺❤️

    I will never forget in my life, when tanks started driving from North Town (now a very fun district in Vilnius) on Čarno Street, now Tuskulėnai Street, we children were playing in the yard, there were very few cars in those days (max 2 in the yard), a very nasty sound of caterpillars was heard on the asphalt, couple of min. and an armored car entered the yard, I don't even remember who told all the children to run home, it seems to me that everyone who could called the children. I remember that my grandfather was not at home, he was a surgeon, I remember that my grandmother was very worried about my uncle, who was already in a whirlwind of events, my parents were at work at that time, came back late, had dinner and left...thank God he came back

      You're right, after the Soviets killed all their leaders and influencers and then they killed their economy it took a long time to recover. So some peopje were put in difficult positions in Lithuania.... and the Ukraine, Belarus, Latvia Estonia, Czech, Poland ... Wherever a tank could roll. But they were invited. So it's all ok. And the propoganda's still rolling out of where the tanks did too unfortunately.

      Fisrt of all, the population decrease from 3.7 to 2.7 millions is 28% which is alot, but can hardly be called "almost a half". Secondly, and most importantly, when we talk about fight against represion, ocupation, fight for freedom and liberties, we talk about the basis of moral values that we do not negotiate about. This is the difference with your narrative (which is popular in modern russia as it was in ussr) - you can always find arguments or bad examples (such as your comment ), but it does not deny or compete with values that these people were fighting for and managed to stand for. And if you are moral person, any fact of economic stagnation in the begining of independence (yes we now live as good as never before in our history, and we have growth of population again) do not deny the harm ussr did by illegal and amoral actions against the free will of lithuanians through all years of brutal and illegal ocupation.

    Литва исчезает с момента своего отделения от СССР, уже почти 30 лет.
    Правительству Литвы абсолютно наплевать на то, что народ стремительно вымирает, молодёжь бежит из этой никому не нужной страны.И вообще, о никакой независимости речи и быть не может, её просто НЕТ!

    • @lukaskulikauskas8517
      @lukaskulikauskas8517 Před 3 lety +34

      Well at least they are not being deported and murdered by ocupants :) Huge emigration was caused mostly by economic stagnation, which was natural for freshly independant country. As lithuanian living in Lithuania I can say that we care about our peole and the wealth of our country, and YES- we have problems, as all countries have and we gradually solve them - we are fine with it. Most importantly, we have the freedom of choice, speech, press, we are part of European family, fast growing economy and so on. The rest of your sentence, has no base at all. By the way, I can bring you some facts: Russia sucks now in level of liberties, freedom of speech, press freedom, level of democracy and despite all natural resources that you have, your GDP PPP is very low as well as general Quality Of Life Index nicely lying at the bottom in the list of all European countries. So I wish you all the best in solving your problems.
