  • In Lithuania the Soviet Union's military continues to suppress independence attitude in the breakaway republic. Russian Republic leader Boris Yeltsin condemns the Soviet military action and says it could unleash wide scale civil conflict. The Soviet military took over railroads halting service and stopped air service in Lithuania. The Soviet Military arrested Lithuanian police cadets and ransacked police buildings. Lithuanians silently protested at key government buildings, demanding independence form the Soviet Union.

It's true, it was basically Tianemen Square every day and there was no media coverage. The world knows almost nothing about this. And Mr Poutine is insulting the country by saying they were invited. 9n a positive note, 2 cool little known facts that got buried in propoganda (besides Lithuania was the 1st country to declare independence from Soviet occupation ) Iceland 🇮🇸 was very 1st to stick their necks out and recognize their independence. And thousands of Russians protested in Moscow against the violence for the Lithuanians. There were many good & supportive Russian people you never hear about

I just returned (to Denmark) from 8 days visit in Lithuania. Among others we visited the tv-tower in Vilnius and learned about what happened there in 1991.
We also saw the crosses and the pictures of the 14 Lithuanians that were killed there in 1991.
I send the best wishes to all of you in Lithuania. 🇱🇹🇺🇦

It’s amazing watching these clips from January 1991, and seeing just how tense the world seemed to be with wars. Lithuania’s independence war with the USSR, the Gulf War’s imminent breakout and the division that caused in the US with both pro and anti-war mindsets… what a time that seemed to be.

Russia is the third country in the world by the number of people leaving, and its increasing, meanwile its rapidly decreasing in Lithuania, especially after brexit. Just because you have people from post soviet countries which you keep fucking over coming to slave in big russian cities to make your population numbers better doesnt mean sht. In reality its way worse in Russia😆. Look at yoursel first
