The reason for the nickname "The Lion From The North" is that he was a highly skilled and victorious millitary commander. Concidered the "father of modern warfare" for his use of Combined Arms and other battlefield innovations. He was first to deploy his muskets in lines, as opposed to the old squares, bringing more firepower to bear. Those are the lines of men that can be seen in most war movies of the late 17th century up until the first world war.

Very informative right here Love it!! first to take the square formation into a lined formation, in which reigned as supreme warfare with additions of others Cannons and such but damn. Didn't know any of that.

@@v3tReacts That flecible line formation was also called "brigade". He also deployed each infantry regiment with light and mobile artillary which could move with the infantry. This was new as artillary mostly was fixed and heavy and not moved after deployed for battle.

Technically not, the Dutch tried it against the Spanish and Sweden took it and ran, the Dutch were basically copying old Roman stuff including organization and how commands work (two part commands we still use today)

No. The reason for the nickname is Swedish military propaganda. By use of folklore and superstition. There was old curse, about a Lion who would destroy the Eagle. In Sweden the Lions and the Three crowns in the Royal Coat of Arms had been in use since the early middle ages.

One of the best Sabaton songs (in my opinion) and the history the songs tells is about king Gustav 2nd Adolf (Gustavus Adolfus the great), he changed the way of warfare and is considered on of the best field marshals/field masters of all time and he was really the founder of the Swedish empire.
You should really use the captions to follow the story of the Swedish empire through the album!
The english version tells the story more from a observers/political point if view while the Swedish version tells the story more from the individual soldiers point of view (like the ”en livstid i krig” (a lifetime of war) you reacted on earlier, also from this album).
