      We do! :) ...And I think for a decent bloke it never stops ticking. I'm into my mid-50's now but this vid got me "clucky" (roostery?) all over again!
      I had such a great time when my kids were of toddlers-to-teens age, we rough housed a lot.
      As they became teens we went bush on outdoors adventures more instead. Our communications became more both verbal and physical as we faced a freezing night riding by motorcycle up to a remote camp together, or hiking and chatting along the Heysen Trail with limited water on a nice 35 degree South Aussie day.
      Now that they have left home, gone to uni, gotten careers, etc we have rather long distance relationships, so it's all verbal. But hardship doesn't seem to phase them. They are both level headed and going places their old metalworking dad never did.
      This video made me start to hope I get to play "Dad is a trampoline! Jump on Dad!" with my grandchildren while I'm still young and strong!

      Go check with her first .
      Many father's love their children , but when the family courts and a malicious female join forces to destroy him , the time with you is not worth rotting in jail . It's better to keep a distance and pay that monthly child support and remain free .
      Find out first if your mother took him to court or got law enforcement involved before you so quickly judge him . Do some research.

    Roughhousing is good for girls, too! Studies show that girls who roughhouse with their fathers are more confident than girls who don’t. And some studies even indicate that roughhousing can prevent your little angel from growing up into one of those Queen Bee, Mean Girls that psychologically terrorize other girls.

    Roughhousing isn't just for boys either. I began roughhousing with my 5 year old daughter and she went from being a shy and introverted follower-type personality to being an outgoing, active and take-charge individual. She used to silently sit in front of the television for most of her free time but now prefers running around the yard, foot racing and playing tag. She even lifts small weights, stretches and practices yoga and t'ai chi....all of her own accord. Her school grades have also improved greatly. She is much more focused and alert in class and has a memory that puts my own to shame.

      Alpha M. would be against roughhousing while AoM supports it.
      Alpha M. is completely against the idea of ever getting into a fight while AoM doesn't encourage violence, at the same time understands that there may be some necessary situations.
      Alpha M's idea of masculinity is based simply on confidence while AoM's believes it to be about physical strength, courage and honour.

    The Importance of Roughhousing [VIDEO]

    • @RobertWalkerUT
      @RobertWalkerUT Před 9 lety +16

      I have a hard time believing that any rational individual who looks at the appropriately tame roughhousing moves seen in this video could believe them to pose any significant threat to the child's safety. Yes, some dads take roughhousing too far, but there are many good, positive activities that become bad when taken to extremes. Drinking water is good; drinking too much water too fast will kill you. Giving children responsibility is good; putting a 6-year-old in charge of doing the taxes is not. Public affection for your girlfriend or spouse is good; getting *too* friendly in public invites incarceration.
      So yes, be careful, but please roughhouse with your kids. Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater, literally or figuratively.

  • @Zaloomination

    I loved this video! I've been reading recently about the reality of fathering and mothering (versus merely gender neutral "parenting") and how fathers and mothers parent (verb) in complementary ways in their child's development. This agrees with the presentations I've seen that roughhousing is, more often than not, a distinctively fatherly activity (the mother is usually more protective/nurturing/sensitive of the child's safety and health). This video went into a lot more detail and I really enjoyed it! I especially liked learning about the moral and father/childbonding benefits of roughhousing. You've earned another subscriber!

    Thanks for this video, it really helped me in understanding why I've become who I am, and what I want to change in that. Long story short, I grew up without a dad, and I missed out on all this. As a person I am often really introverted, afraid of any physical contact, and often unsure of myself.
    A few weeks ago I spent a week helping my mothers friends family who live in the countryside. I got to do physical work, play with their two school aged daughters (a bit rough as well), and talk with their father, man to man. I can't remember when I have last been as happy, as I was during that week.

    This is great advice. There are so many kids now that are over protected by their parents. I would take this a step farther and suggest a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (or submission grappling) school for the young boy or girl. There are plenty of these rough house games that teach kids to play well with others and develop mutual respect with their peers. Not only are the kids having fun but they are also (unknowingly at first) learning how to defend themselves and stand up to bullies. This confidence helps develop a well rounded and well adjusted individual.

    Very cool video, I am using the Gracie Bullyproof dvd's for my kids. It has lots of fun moves for them to learn, like the ride the horsey shown in this video.

    It reminds me of two things from when my son was little.
    Pool Time! We would often use the back yard pool as a stage for a role play fight or wrestling match and sometimes it got a little rough. And Adam could dish it out too.
    Light Sabers! We had a couple of plastic light sabers and had some pretty intense battles, occupying the upstairs until we were both spent. Full swing, occasional body contact, and a blast.
    Great video Brett. Love AOM.

    What a lovely video. Both informative and amusing 😂.
    Once I show this to my father, I bet he'd totally claim the honor.
    And tell me how : "That's exactly why you should always trust me son... Even if I throw ice cold water at 'cha during your shower."

    Like most sensible and simple things, this makes a hell of a lot of sense. The only sad thing is that the fathers who really need to see these sorts of 'how to" videos will either never see them or see them and blow them off, thinking they don't need advice or guidance.

    I definitely needed more roughhousing as a boy - raised by my mom and grandmother, who were genteel, kind people with a positive horror of roughhousing. It made me kind of a priss, That took a while (30 years?) to shake it off.
    Good advice (from one who knows)!

    This video actually made me cry, my whole life I wished my father had loved me, so much so that I would envy my friends who had good fathers.
    I wish growing up I had a dad like you, I hope to marry a man as good as you, and I hope my children have a father- like the one I always wished I had.
    *Att'n all men*: Please love your kids, play with them, love them, build a solid relationship with them.
    Otherwise they will end up wondering what they did wrong, why they weren't good enough for you.

    You´re right, roughhousing and some wrestling matches with kids are very important. My son and me we often do wrestling matches just for fun and other roughhousing activties. Such games are very important. Parents should love, protect and help their kids as good as possible. Doing some bareknuckle catchwrestling funny projects is a good way :-)

    My Dad roughhoused with my brother and I equally. Loved it! I tried so hard to prove to him how strong I was. It was good fun! The horse was the best. I think I'm a pretty confident woman now and I wasn't one of those girls who was shy to show my peers that I was physically capable of trying anything!

    I'm having a hard time understanding why people are bringing feminism and a male vs. female attitude to this, as neither of those things holds relevance to this video...
    It's clear to me that fathers need play an active role in their childs life and that that role is incredibly important to their child's development. It's also clear to me, and implied in this video, that this sort of play is not limited to fathers and sons (note that Mr. Mckay uses the gender neutral term child), and that mothers should also be roughhousing with their kids. Perhaps I missed something, but I really don't understand the controversy some of the commenters are trying to stir up.

    • @lordmasterization
      @lordmasterization Před 9 lety +3

      Mitch Mitchell Because modern feminism controls everything from the media to politics and laws. Masculine anything is frowned upon. This is especially apparent in the media where the father is cast as a cold, harsh-tempered and dangerous hindrance to a child. Roughhousing especially is looked down upon.
      And yes the mother's role is equally as important and that too is looked down upon. The recent film Jurassic World has received harsh criticism from feminists simply because it showed the female character enjoying being the children's guardian and not being a "man" as per their social rules. The basic knowledge of parenthood is sadly lost in today's PC culture which treats children as gender neutral wards of the state...a by product of feminism.
      A lot of these trends have fallen away though after major backlashes to the movement. But the damage has already been done, a lot of kids are growing up without discipline and have no concept of what to do in society due to the lack of both parents in their lives. Hence the high amounts of unemployable youths, drug usage and violence. This more noticeable in some ethnic groups than others but it is increasing as a whole in all groups.
      Not to long ago a father was arrested for letting his son walk home from school. And in another case a judge has thrown kids in juvenile jail because they were resistant to the judges demands in a terribly nasty divorce case. This latter event is ongoing.

      @talesina280 Před 5 lety

      You have a crazy definition of feminism in the US.
      In Germany every child is encouraged to walk to school.
      Roughhousing is in no way anti-feminist.
