I once walked among a Scottish Highland pipe band resting during a festival. Gawd, they were big, solid, awesome men! As the Duke of Wellington is said to have remarked about his soldiers, "I don't know what effect they have upon the enemy, but by God they frighten me!"
I'm English but I love the Scots and their bagpipes. This stuff coming at you would scare you to death. We had a lone scot near me years ago who would play the pipes on summer evenings,. It sounded really majestic. never a noise complaint - Beautiful!
Marines only want you to hear the Hymn, knowing that you are conquered. What’s fun playing music loud so enemy can hear you coming? The enemy might run before you get a chance to slaughter them.
As an old Marine I love "Semper Fidelis." As a descendant of Scotland, I love "Scotland the Brave." To ask which I love the most is like asking me which of my two sons I love the most. It's just not a thing.
Okay, if you were going into battle against some Hells' Angels bikers, what would you rather be listening to? The New Seekers singing Puff the Magic Dragon or Ted Nugent singing Flesh and Blood? That is why Scotland the Brave and Black Bear win out every time!
The pipe and drum chill me to the bone. I can't imagine the impact that sound leading an army into battle through the misty moors at sunrise. Being on the receiving end of a Scotish army was a brutal experience. (Same is true for those facing US Marine Corp.)
If the question was who would I not want to mess with on the battlefield it’s the Marines. Scotland the Brave though is the best song to march to battle to on the face of the earth.
@@williamdavidwallace3904 It's a bit girly compared to Scotland the brave. Not a tune I'd like to march into battle with it playing as men died in front of me and were blown to pieces at each side!!! Maybe OK at a garden party with gin and tonics and martinis! Pass the salmon sandwiches.
Scotland the Brave. There's just no beating that pipe and drum sound, and the feelings it evokes. Whether you're Scottish, British, from the Commonwealth or simply just love bagpipes, it is phenomenal.
To be fair, and having been a former Military Piper myself. I think both are awesome tunes. Keeping in mind the differences between the Pipe Band and a Brass Band and their own unique sounds and effect...I like them equally.
Back in day, had offsprings in dance classes, at end of which wsd expected to attend the year-end concert. After a fair few rather endless "flowing" performances, the appearance of the Highland dancers was always greeted with great applause. The audience, although demographically inclined to and sympathetic with the other performers, obviously realized that here was a performance to which they could really relate.
While Scotland the Brave is impressive, as an old Jarhead Semper Fidelis is near and dear to my heart. Nothing beats seeing the Presidents Own marching across the parade deck at Henderson Hall during the evening parade playing this, followed by the silent drill team. Semper Fi!
I'm a Scot by heritage but also a Squid and a Civilian Marine. My soul says Scotland the Brave, my spirit says Scotland the Brave, but my Oath says Semper Fidelis!
Wow, I wish we had something like Scotland the Brave in America. I like our military marches.....but nothing comes close to the Scots! Well done Scotland.
They are both great pieces of music. The Scots have it for their pageantry over the USMC Band play on a stage. - - - //es//A Proud Honorable Disabled American Veteran, 1965-1994 - Combat Medicine and Pharmacy.
When I first moved to Beeston in Nottinghamshire I would regularly hear a piper practising in the evenings in his garden, as we had a local well respected pipe marching band - The Beeston Rylanders - The Rylands being a local district. The haunting sounds he made carried miles, and if it were anything other than a Sotts piper the complaints would have flooded in. But no not a single noise complaint ever. Respect
Well, of course having a Scottish last name, it's Scot-the-Brave & especially Black Bear always. But having an ex-gf who's and ex-Marine, I had to like both! lol (Och aye!) ;)
Semper Fi is a cute, catchy, little tune. Scotland the brave is a blood firing warriors anthem that reaches down into your soul and carry's with it the pride and history of a people that have served for centuries on the front lines of an empire. Semper Fi can be confused with any number of other marching tunes. But the pipes at full-throated roar, lets you know the "Ladies from hell" as the German's called them are coming down out of the mists to gut you like a fish, remove every sign of your existence from the earth and chuckle in your face as they do so. There isn't even a suggestion of a comparison.
never to a marine of the U.S.A. each tune means so much for those who served to hear these Great Tunes, as Scottish, there is a strange raising of the hackles, Determination takes over any fear you had, "When the Pipers Call"

i think we know who won here. Scotland the brave is a real battle marching tune
To the United States marine semper fi will always be there battle cry
Having Scottish blood in my veins, can only say with absolute conviction - SCOTLAND THE BRAVE !
Duncan Curtis SCOTLAND!! FOREVER!!
That band leader's awsome moustache and bugger-grips at 2:46 wins it before a note is played!
I'm English but I love the Scots and their bagpipes. This stuff coming at you would scare you to death. We had a lone scot near me years ago who would play the pipes on summer evenings,. It sounded really majestic. never a noise complaint - Beautiful!
Semper Fi is a fine piece of music...but Scotland the Brave is a toon to die to...
I think the real question is, which one can be heard from a mile away and still scare you?
Scotland the brave!
Sorry Marines, I love ya..... But Scotland the brave wins.
Marines only want you to hear the Hymn, knowing that you are conquered. What’s fun playing music loud so enemy can hear you coming? The enemy might run before you get a chance to slaughter them.
Scotland the brave
Sorry, but by the time you’ve heard Semper Fidelis, you’ve already lost.
Scotland the Brave! Forever!
Marco Giocarolli thanks for your preference share and comment!!!
yes LAD SCOTLAND THE BRAVE!!!!!
Hell fucking ya!
FOREVER
As an old Marine I love "Semper Fidelis." As a descendant of Scotland, I love "Scotland the Brave." To ask which I love the most is like asking me which of my two sons I love the most. It's just not a thing.
You're going into battle and you hear Scotland The Brave on the pipes and drums- you shit is about to get real!
I'm American, but the song "Scotland the Brave" demands your respect. Something about it sound so patriotic, gallant, and honorable, I love it.
I ADORE my U.S. of A and the corps. but I am sorry...Scotland the Brave is BOSS......
ruben cruz ...THIG AR LATHA
Scotland the Brave is unbeatable.
Well hell....they have bagpipes no fair! Everything sounds better with bagpipes. I want bagpipes.
Indy Custom Made I said it not a fair "battle" because of the different instruments and different musical styles.
Regina I know I was just saying that bagpipes sound so good. I like both.
Apples or oranges? May I disagree though on a favorite? One of these shows some restraint and musicality. The other is awfully noisy.

Both Ted Nugent and the Hells Angels are American. Neither wear dresses.
Here's a fact: John Paul Jones, founder and father of the U.S. Navy, was actually born in Scotland.
Scotland the Brave! Forever! and ever and ever!
Scottish pipes and drums always pump up my heart and spirit.
Scotland The Brave without a second thought.
As a guy who has a ton of family members is the Marines, I'm still going to have to go with the Scottish on this one.
Josh Stewart you are so Right Amen glory Alleuia love it !!

That man looks like a king and a king who can really mess you up if you try to fight him
To be fair, and having been a former Military Piper myself. I think both are awesome tunes. Keeping in mind the differences between the Pipe Band and a Brass Band and their own unique sounds and effect...I like them equally.
Scotland the Brave ... no contest

My grandmother's family were from Scotland. She was a Campbell. Not sure which Clan Campbell. I love hearing Scotland the Brave.
Not a fair contest the Scots have bagpipes the only musical instrument declared a weapon of war and outlawed.
Scotland the Brave! When I was in Cadets, this was a powerful song to march to.
I'm currently in cadets, my pipes and drums band play it all the time.
If you're going to have this contest, compare it to "The Stars and Stripes Forever". Seems like it would be more fair contest.
I love both anthems!
Scotland the brave will always be the best.
Scotland the Brave every day of the week!
I'm a Scot by heritage but also a Squid and a Civilian Marine. My soul says Scotland the Brave, my spirit says Scotland the Brave, but my Oath says Semper Fidelis!

Scotland the Brave makes Semper Fidelis look like a theme fit for the boy scouts.

Scotland 🏴 the brave is my first Scottish music 🎶 that I listen 🎧
Scotland The Brave everytime although I do Like Sousa marches. Nothing gets the blood running like Scotland The Brave.
They are totally different tunes but being 100% Scottish born and bred, i have only one answer
Scotland the Brave - the Scots were going into battle with tunes ike this playing long before US MArines were even thought of.
In school !!Boys one way girls another !!lol
The piccolo playing in semper fidelis is really exquisite.
However, Black Bear makes me want to invade England again.
My Grandfather was in the U.S.Army Band in WW1. I joined the U.S. Marines in '82 ... as an 0331 LOL.
If there‘s one song to march into battle with. It‘s Scotland the Brave. Semper Fidelis doesn‘t intimidate, it doesn‘t scream war.
as a piper... it has to be Scotland the Brave!
Scotland; Is one of the most beautiful nations, in the world!
I’m English and I’m very happy and humble enough to say Scotland definitely win on this. That’s TRUE patriots.
The articulation and tune is superb....
Scotland the Brave!
something about "Scotland the brave" stirs my soul.
scotland the brave always
Instant goose bumps all over body for Scotland the brave
As much as I admire Sousa's marches I know what I would follow. Scotland The Brave.
Alba an gaisgeach
Scotland the Brave, hands down!!!!!!
Makes me want to slap an Englishman
Scotland the Brave, no contest. I’m English.
Scotland The Brave won!!
The first musical piece was like Dads Army whereas the bagpipes really steered up a passion in me.
My great grandfather was a piper in the trenches for the British army
I love it.
My violently Scottish grandpa made us boys learn this song by heart and it’s a tune to March to
As an American musician....Scotland the Brave.
Ambas melodías son maravillosas.
Wee girl at 5 years old told to March regimental to brass band !! Have an aversion to that to this day but appreciate musician s ?
American and a Marines fan, but I have to vote Scotland the Brave!
Scotland the Brave !!!
Scotland the Brave! OMFG,THIS AWESOME!!!!
Scotland The Brave.
Semper Fidelis without question.
Scot/Brave for sure, the B-pipes in battle would send chills, fear to the enemy, Semper Fi doesn't have that impact
Scots took the cake here
i like both
Scotland the Brave! No 1 hands down
EYES RIGHT!
The British Sargent Major instilling drill discipline for 300 years.
Laddies in kilts kick arse any day. Go Scotland the brave.
should have done the battle hymn of the republic
Both are top in their own right.
Look at my profile pic. Scotland The Brave, obviously. Alba gu Brath!
Well, of course having a Scottish last name, it's Scot-the-Brave & especially Black Bear always. But having an ex-gf who's and ex-Marine, I had to like both! lol (Och aye!) ;)

I like both songs because they are my favorite two songs
marines dont need a badass song, they are already badass.
The first was great... But I want Scotland the brave played at my funeral
Im American but have Scottish ancestry. But Scotland The brave is a Song I would gladly die to in battle not the petty flute music.
Scotland the Brave, hands down
never to a marine of the U.S.A. each tune means so much for those who served to hear these Great Tunes, as Scottish, there is a strange raising of the hackles, Determination takes over any fear you had, "When the Pipers Call"
No doubt, Scotland the Brave!!!
Scotland The Brave!!!!! Aye!!
Semper Fidelis sounds like music to play on a merry-go-round. Nothing rousing or intimidating about it.
As an American I have to give this one to Scotland the Brave
Scotland the brave chad vs us marine march virgin both are magnificent btw
This is only a contest between an orchestra and bag pipes.
I'm an American of primarily Scottish heritage. So what do you honestly expect me to say? Do I cut off my right hand or my left?
