Craig is one of the finest human beings in the music industry, as well as being one of the finest drummers
Fantastic Huw
Had the pleasure to chat with him after a SW concert in Cremona, dude was super chill. Really humble too, he was kind of embarassed by the shower of praise we heaped on him
Lets not forget that not only Craig is a monster drummer, he also has to sits there and takes it to the chin from hundreds of crybabies who cannot tolerate the fact that he is not Gavin or Marco.
Good call. Takes it with good grace n’ all.
Yes that must be tiring....
I didn't realise the Gavin/Steven Wilson/Porucpine Tree connection when I made my comment.
But he isn't Gavin... I think Gavin would be surprised if he was. 😅
@@djyeah-nah9781 indeed.
Seen him 8 times with Steven Wilson, twice with Steve Hackett and once with his band, Frost.
Yep, Craig was hired on pretty short notice to fill the drum chair for Wilson's touring band due to Marco Minnemann's departure for a previously-booked tour of The Aristocrats (his band with Guthrie Govan and bassist Brian Beller)... so Craig had to endure a TON of crap from jackass fans for simply not being Marco. But to Wilson's credit, early on he pointed out to Craig -- who was having some confidence issues -- that he didn't need to try to BE Marco, and instead should play the parts the way *Craig Blundell* would. Obviously, he did exactly that.
Blunders is an absolute beast. Dude's got more chops than a butcher's window.
HAHAHA!
Damn near a decade ago, I had the absolute pleasure of working with Craig for a Frost* gig (I was technical production manager for the venue)
He is one of the nicest, most genuine humans that I encountered in my time as a live music tech! I would have loved to have worked with him again, but an accident shortly after that removed me from the industry.
Absolute gent and a bloody good teacher of drums too
Bloody fantastic Keleigh! Looks like I'll have him on my podcast soon.... stay tuned!
@@AndrewRooneyDrums Awesome! I'll keep an eye out for it!
I loved to see Craig Blundell with Steven Wilson back in 2015 for the first time and I'm completely flashed when listening to him ever since. And he was phenomenal at the Steve Hackett show last year!
Thanks Silke!
Glad you are finding out what I've known for a while. Craig is an incredible drummer.
Sure is Paul!
Craig Blundell is not only a fantastic drummer he is also a very kind and nice human being!
Yes. That's always great to hear!
I’ve seen Craig perform with SW multiple times; fantastically good.... Glad you featured him!
More on the way Nathan
Watching you react to all these gods on earth, with all your facial expressions of admiration and spot-on comments literally makes my heart melt. That is some SERIOUS love for music and your instrument!
Cheers from Italy!! 😊
Hey Francesco! Thank you man!!!
I think I have a new drummer crush...
add regret number 9 to your list in order to complete the song its absolutley incredible
On who
@@behindthen0thing525 the album by Steven Wilson Hand.Cannot.Erase. Is terrific. Marco Minneman does the Album -Craig did the tours - both are great.
@@jonfromtheuk467 Love that album, still prefer Minnemann
Check out his live performance of the song Vermillion Core.
Saw this guy live with SW 4 years ago here in Australia. Holy moly he's a monster.
Yup absolute monster alright.
Makes it look scarily easy
I had a lesson with him. He even made the coffee. Top bloke and has worked HARD to get where he is and thoroughly deserves to be there.
Although a beast and awesome stage / tour player, his passion is teaching. I still have the charts he gave me to learn and practice them.
As soon as this COVID malarchy is finished and I’m back in Blighty another lesson looms on the horizon.
Awesome! Great stuff :)
I'd love to get a lesson from him also
Craig Blundell is a wonderwonderwonderful drummer!! I've seen him a few times with Steven Wilson, nail-straight, alwayson the mark, like a metronome, but he does make the drums sing. FLAM!!
Glad you finally picked a drummer whose music I can relate to, last few vid's were about speed, NOT about the noble art of stroking the drums ;-)
You are absolutely right John!!!
Superb player.
The whole Home Invasion concert live at Albert Hall is insane 2 and a half hours of pure musical heaven.
I’m in love with his drumming. As a guitarist my two favs are Manu, Porcaro, Vinnie C and I’ve added Craig there. Just a freak.
As Steven Wilson introduces him at Albert Hall gig “the remarkable Craig Blundell”.
So good Markus
Ancestral from that show would be my pick to react his drumming. Incredible
Awesome vid!!!!!!
Blunders is also an Ex - Royal Marine, and still takes time to do drum workshops with young marching band drummers. A total all round great guy.
Wow Andy!
He sure is. I had the privilege of serving with him in the Royal Marines Band in Plymouth years ago. Amazing lovely guy and an amazing drummer 😁
I am a rock and doom metal listener and this guy can absolutely play the drums with heavy beats and go right into smooth drum sound with precision that is flawless, from what I see.
You got it! He's killer
Craig is one of the best. Check out his band Frost and literally everything from this album.
Great Eric!
I love your videos! Cheers from Reno, Nevada.
Hey Noah!
Steven Wilson live in Royal Albert Hall. Craig’s playing will blow you away. Check out all of Steven’s drummers, Gavin is one of them.
Thanks Rob! Yes done a few Gavin vids. He's a monster :)
Especially Ancestral. The drumming is at insane level 😊
LOL! I love the fact that Craig posted this on his Facebook page. The admiration must be mutual :D
Hey Nick! Yes hoping to have a good chat with him soon!
'literally perfect sound - it doesn't get any better than this' - hit the nail on the head!
Hey Melanie! Thanks!!
just saw him yesterday with steve hackett on seconds out tour live here in malta. his drum solo blew everyone away! and the drum sound in the theatre was asthonishing!
100% agree.
I was floored live
I love how you explain things. I don't play drums, or barely enough to keep a straight punk rhythm for 10 seconds, but your channel is really entertaining and educating. 👍
Yo thanks!
Towards the end of the song, I found it very interesting how he almost slid his stick up the ride cymbal before hitting the bell. It made for a very nice and subtle transition. Awesome find!
Yeah this is soooo slick
have seen him live with Steven Wilson on the Raven Tour in germany. No more words needed, you already spotted out, that this man can play!
Complex but open however plays the melody ! Hats off awesome
If I remember the interview correctly from the Home Invasion Bluray, Craig was a session drummer who hadn't played live before joining Steven and was quite nervous about being in front of thousands of people. I'd say he did a wonderful job of overcoming those fears as he tears it up throughout the whole concert.
Wow that's interesting Tim. Thank you
Craig is an absolute drumming machine, in the positive way! I saw him a couple off times now with SW. But you have to be damn good when somebody is used in having Gavin Harisson and Marco Minneman backing you up, like SW is. Speaking off him, Marco Minneman, saw him with The Aristocrats. Three absurd talented mucicians playing because they just want to play, and guess what... The are freaking good at it, look at this and watch Marco taking it after 5:45. Really, it doesn't get any better!!....... czcams.com/video/QPtOkHi4F2U/video.html
Thanks Twan!
Yeah I'm blown away brother!
Craig is an absolutely incredible player and one of the nicest people around. Hope he goes out with SW again!
Great stuff Oscar!
It's cool that you mentioned Gavin Harrison, he was the drummer for Porcupine Tree, for who Steven Wilson was their main songwriter and singer. Wilson, Blundell, Harrison and Minnemann are all crazy awesome musicians!
So much power and precision! I guess that’s what comes of being trained by the Royal Marines Band Service
And an absolute gentleman too.
@Andrew Rooney Drums. I'm not one for the usual reaction videos, but this one shows you in genuine admiration of the subject, Craig Blundell.
I've known about Craig for a long time. He's the genuine article, hugely talented, humble, and the friendliest guy you'll ever meet. Unfortunately he always gets compared to Marco, purely by the drum snobs, that can't let go of the fact he Marco couldn't make the Steven Wilson gig, he had commitments to The Aristocrats, and ever since Craig has been in the drum position. I'm not dissing Marco, he's one of the most incredible players to grace the drums. For me it confirms how good Craig is. Steven Wilson thinks he's good enough to be there and Craig has the chops to be there.
You also need to check out Craig's work with Frost* and Lonely Robot. Frost* track Towerblock is a precision piece of production, but then watch Towerblock live from Dingwalls, where Craig replicates what was dreamt up by Jem Godfrey, Frost* mainman, in the studio, in a live setting.
Also Craig's earlier work that brought him to the attention of Jem & Frost*, Craig's own Drum & Bass album Dr Oktopus.
Thanks @Andrew Rooney Drums
Thanks for the great info. Looking forward to hearing more of him!
Love the tee shirt! Flight of the Conchords are AWESOME and Hilarious! Wish more people in America knew about them.
Steven Wilson is amazing, he produced many Opeth albums, so check them out as well
Thanks Jared!
Craig is not only a stunningly good drummer, he's also a real gent and a great musical ambassador. Check out some of his work with the band Frost*, too...
Thanks Gareth. Will Do!
He's also the drummer for Steve Hackett. Great player and from my hometown in the uk too
Oh wow. Yeah he's incredible
Craig’s work with Frost* is likewise phenomenal. He’s part of a new trio called Trifecta with other SW tour vets and they have stuff coming out soon.
Craig is a monster player, I've been lucky to have had tutoring from him..I believe these drum parts were by Marco Min. Craig then took over the tour from Marco on the S Wilson line up. This was 5years ago.. Craig is even better now. Juat crazy brilliant playing! Took him to another level.
Immediate thumbs-up just for the T-shirt. :-)
I promise to call 'band meeting' in a really dorky Kiwi accent on the next vid!
HAHA. Thanks Mike!
Dude! This is the Roland Demo guy! Lol. This guy is awesome!
Proud to see a fellow Marine Bugler storming with his insane playing.. I am a Bugler in the RM Band Collingwood. We are the finest Regimental Band in the world, that is without question. Craig is a real credit to himself and the HM Royal Marines.. If I could be half the kit player that Craig is one day that would make me a hell of a player.
Also done some gigs with Steve Hackett. Superb drummer.
Craig was recommended to Steven Wilson by both Gavin Harrison himself as well as John Mitchell of Frost*.
Seen him numerous times with Frost*, Steve Hackett, Steve Wilson and drum demonstration events. Great guy and a great drummer.
HAHA sad old man. YES! Glad you liked it! Thanks!
Unreal man. Holy S**T
Serious player
By the way, your videos are great, I am an amateur on a drum kit at best, but you help keeping things fairly grounded, no matter how complex
That's so great Jared!
Thank you!
Craig Blundell is a UK based session drummer & clinician and has also recorded and performed with the band Frost* and Steven Wilson among others. Check out the 2016 album Falling Satellites by Frost* for more of his great drum work outside the Steven Wilson orbit.
Thanks Shawn!!!
Very jimmy chamberlain those fills love it !
Great drummer mr blundell
craig posted your video on his FB page
Yes I saw that!!!
Absolutely agree with the car chasing vibe btw🎶✊🤘
10-4 rubber ducky!
Craig is indeed a beast. Others have mentioned Frost; I recommend the live ("Dingwalls") version of the tune "Towerblock." Partway in, Craig and the boys have to duplicate a transitional section that's essentially "prog/dubstep," originally created via a lot of ProTools trickery that few of us ever thought they'd pull off live. We were so wrong; they effing nail it.
It felt a little like Miami Vice -vs- Starsky n Hutch who had a YES BABY🤪 Actually liked it with the singing especially. Thanks Andrew for your reaction n the humor this morning✌️GREAT DRUMMER
Hey Susanne! Hope you are doin great today. Thanks as always for watching!
You should check out some of Craigs vids on the Roland V Drums playing jungle and and drum and bass I swear he has 8 arms !!
Yo Andrew. You should check out Marco Minneman's playthrough of "Scavengers" by In Continuum on Drumeo. Effing nuts!
Thanks Tyler!
Craig became the replacement for Marco Minnemann for the Steven Wilson band. Marco was the original drummer on this album. That says something about being able to fill his shoes!
Speaking of Marco, you gotta hear Drum For Your Life or anything by The Aristocrats. It's nuts. He's also really good at guitar, bass, and keyboard.
Thanks so much Randy!
lol at the "call me"
HAHA Glad you dug that Phil! LOL
That keyboard part is straight out of an Alan Holdsworth jam. Gorgeous. Even the drumming is a bit Wackerman
Graig Blundell is an extremely intelligent player. He is one of Rolands Top VDrum product demonstrators. He has mastered the 26 American rudiments and also is proficient at simultaneous performance of multi time signatures between all four limbs. On top of that, he is a 100% super nice guy in public no matter how busy he is. A True gentleman drummer. BTW: He has built kits for Premier Drums from shell all the way up with design and construction by hand.
Excellent info!
He's now plating with Steve Hackett.
You didn't do the full song of Home Invasion/Regret #9! :( Man as a guitarist I was SO SO SO looking forward to watching your eyes bulge at the guitar solo. I know you must have heard of Guthrie Govan as I know you know he plays with Marco Minneman, but if you've never seen him play guitar, wow mate he'll change your outlook on every other guitarist! And regret #9 was a solo he did on the first take for Steven Wilson, there's a video of it on youtube and it's just insane.
Hey there. My link (as sent by patron) ended there!
Looking forward to more :)
Well, actually... Guthrie wasn't in Wilson's band by this point. Early in Wilson's Hand.Cannot.Erase tour both Marco and Guthrie had to leave for a The Aristocrats tour, so Wilson hired Craig and guitarist Dave Kilminster (a regular with Roger Waters's band, where he has to play the role, as he describes it, of being David Gilmour's "stunt double") to take those spots, and on pretty short notice at that. That said... Kilminster is as much of a monster on guitar as Blunders is on drums, and turned in plenty of fiery solos on Regret #9.
@@aka.Mr.French could have at least done the studio version then! The guitar solo completes the track. I know Andrew knows who Marco is but I'm not sure he's ever heard Guthrie and I just really want to see what happens when a drummer hears him for the first time, I already know that guitarists either sell their guitar or use them as coffee tables after hearing him
Craig Blundell nearly has Gavin Harrison’s dynamic precision but 1/64th note earlier on the beat, like Gavin with a full bladder on cocaine
Craig is the real deal, just brilliant
Agree Julian!
ya Craig is a fucking beast.
Craig Blundell and the bonkers, Nick Beggs lording the low frequencies.
My kind of ‘drum n’ bass’ 👍
Great team!
If you see that, try "Alien Hip Hop" 's Planet X song !
Thanks Karja!
He's the BEST - you should see Craig with Steve Hackett too!!!!!
Can't wait Debbie!

You are on point bringing Gavin Harrison's name on the conversation, since Gavin was the drummer on Porcupine Tree, the band on which Steven Wilson was the lead singer and main songwriter, before going solo.
Being that said, the studio version of that song, "Home Invasion", was recorded by Marco Minneman. Craig Blundell is basically doing it almost note by note as is was originally recorded. You should listen to that entire album: Steven Wilson - Hand Cannot Erase.
*On a side note, when Steven Wilson went on tour to support that album, Marco Minneman was not available to do the whole tour, so Chad Wakerman did all the shows Marco could not play.
I realised the Steven Wilson/Porcupine Tree thing on the edit LOL.
Thanks for the info Hernan!!!
He makes his drums sing.
What do you mean
Totally. The kit sounds gorgeous. And his note choice/placement is impeccable
@@AndrewRooneyDrums hell yeah
I think Craig is an outstanding drummer, and those 'attacking' him because he is not GH are just ignorant in my view. Yes, GH is sensational, yet I personally have always enjoyed Craig's work whenever I have seen him play live, when he is always superb. Steven Wilson sure has worked with incredible musicians for sure
Really a top class drummer, to say the least.
Do yourself a favor and listen to the full song known as Home Invasion/ Regret #9. The studio version is fan-freaking-tastic and Regret#9 is one of the best modern instrumental pieces PERIOD.
Yup I'll have to get to it!
this guy is a monster!. you need to listen ''vermillioncore'' drum cam! is awesome!. saludos desde chile!
Hola Humberto!
Gracias por tu recomendacion!
I like Craig a lot since I heared him in Frost, but we should give credit to Marco Minneman the original Drummer of this song.
Dude you need to check out Dan Presland from Ne Obliviscaris! Incredible speed but also lots of feel and control
Thank you!!!
Just found this channel. Amazing! Would you give Sebastian Lanser "An Epilogue to Infinity"? Cheers!!!
Great suggestion!
Thanks Jason!
You left the final part out....!?
Hey there! That's where the video stopped on the patrons link :)
Wow! This guy play very tasty. His play very similar to Gavin Harrison drum technique
Agree!
My mate Blunders! Lol
He's unreal Lee!
When are you doing a reaction to some Flight of the Conchords? Killer shirt!

Yes I do!
@@AndrewRooneyDrums very unique drummer, him and his friend domi make some awesome jazz. but his drumming style is so snare, kick and high hat heavy it realy reminds me of a electronic genres called jungle music and breakcore
Check also his work on Frost* Album "Fallen Satellites" or recently with Steve Hackett.
Thanks Erik!
to be fair, this is actually a cover of Marco Minnemann's drums. he does a good job of covering him.
Sure does!

He sounds handsome Cameron!
Blundell is great drummer, a Professional Sessionist i think but is more known as his e-drumming sessions before play with Wilson.I think G.Harrison is very difficult to copyed but yes maybe has a smell.
You should really react to mars volta-wax simulacra
Youll love it!

listening to this without hearing that Holzman solo on the Moog and the devastating Govan guitar solo makes me feel dirty
Hey Buddy! That's where my link ended...
@@AndrewRooneyDrums no worries mate! Home Invasion is from a concept album called Hand Cannot Erase and concludes with Regret #9, which is probably the finest Moog and guitar solo I've ever heard. On the album Home Invasion/Regret #9 are billed as one continuous track. Do yourself a giant favor and check it out at your leisure. I'm sure you'll agree that the solos at the end are the bookends that give the song the conclusion it needs. The entire album is brilliant really, thanks for it giving the exposure it deserves!
