My mother had that exact coat when I was 6. I remember she looked so stylish in it at a Christmas gathering. After getting home, she realized sheâd shut the belt in the door and the pavement chewed up the end. She cried. Forty two years later and I hadnât remembered that until you got the coat. Thanks for helping me recover a memory of my gorgeous, stylish MCM mama!

I didnât read all the comments, so apologies if Iâm repeating someone. There are guidelines for lamps and shades. The shade should be twice as wide as the lamp base, and one third of the total height of the lamp. Itâs ok to have 1/2 to 1 inch of neck showing, but none of the socket should be seen below the shade.
Harps can be found in many sizes/heights including adjustable height harps. They can be easily changed out for a better fit. But as in all things design: Trust your gut. You know if you like it or if it feels âoffâ to you. And thatâs the most important thing. Iâve been thrifting my entire life. You are so fun to watch! Thank you for the recent tutorial on shining up old brass with salt and sliced lemons. Iâd heard of that before, but had never tried it. Genius!! It really worked! Thanks for many hours of fun perusing...Iâm just north of you in the Seattle area.

When we bought our house my husband said don't clutter everything, it's taken over 20 years he's given up trying to declutter. Maximalist all the way. Oh and I love all my wood bits and pottery too.

The green and white Mexican bowl is called âTalavera â pottery. I have been collecting hanging talavera sun faces for years. I hang them on my garden fence. In the cold snowy Winters, they provide much needed color. Great find!
Great idea! I always like the sun pottery images at the end of the Sunday Morning show.
I think that big brass bowl would look cool with sand in it; to put a bunch of incense sticks in it. Beautiful, plus it makes your home smell fabulous. Nag champa is my favorite incense.

I feel the rule of thumb on lamp shades on a lamp is, if it "feels right", it's right.

The trick to using those wooden candlesticks without ruining them with dripping wax is using a bobeche (the glass circles that sit at the base of the candle.)
I really liked the neutral display better than the pink...it was much more calming & I like color so go figure đ

Love your lamp/shade combo: go with what you find aesthetically appealing! If it looks off, fall back on these šrules of thumbš: shade is about 2/3 the height of the base; like a slip under a dress, you never want your harp to show.

I love the brown lamp setting much better than the pink flowers all the wood pieces and the lamp made you want to stop and look at each piece

I loved the beautiful jug and the green bowl! I have to tell you that now when I go to my Goodwill, I'm saying ooh Laura would like that! And I'm starting to like mid century objects and that's not me at all! You just have such good taste with what you pick, that I think wow! that's beautiful. A little scary...ha!

You've really inspired me to start reselling soon. I love thrifting and actually go to the Battle Ground and Salmon Creek Goodwill's often, that's where I find my favorite things. I'll have to check out that first store tomorrow.

About your colorful decor question... I personally love color. I have a white sofa, brown leather Eames chair & ottoman, 2 aqua blue slipper chairs and a bright to the floor magenta table cloth on a 30 inch tall circle table my Dad made. In the 90s, skirted tables between chairs was a thing. I have my bright magenta table next to my sofa. My sofa has colorful pillows made from old rugs. The key to my colorful boho living room is the nuetral walls, rug & sofa with 3 pink things... table clothe, sofa pillow, and a lamp base across the room on another end table. Think triangle. I love bright color. I have 2 large green plants in there too. I change table clothes with the season. In Fall I'll pull out the orange clothe & move pink lamp to guest bdrm & use my brass lamp. I've got red for Christmas, soft green for Spring. I had my table clothes made at Calico Corners with fancy thick upholstery fabric & weighted welting, cording at the bottom. They were expensive but I keep using them year after year & different colors makes me happy. My artwork in that room is bright. My son, my cousin, my bestie are all artists and all four walls have original oil paintings in various sizes... abstract, landscape and figures. If you like colorful, you'd dig my living room.

I'm a maximalist who tends to go for the nuetrals. I find a lot of my 'stuff' in nature, such as cool rocks and driftwood. I had a friend who used to go hunting with me along the Mississippi shoreline for cool stuff. He passed away, but he left me a gift that I found on the ground believe it or not. I knew it was from him. I looked down at what looked to be a knot that came out of a board and I reached down to pick it up for some reason and when it came out of the ground it was a feather! Not created by man but by nature and it was the coolest thing I've ever found and I knew it was meant for me to find. I believe that with all my heart. I will never let it go. It's absolutely amazing.
I'm a pop person, and I like to mix and match patterns and textures, too!

You can Do It!!!! You are doing great. When I lived in Japan I took up a ton of classes. My fav was making washi paper eggs and kimono dressing. Just jump in to it and it will come.

I love sharks actually. He looks like he is missing his tail fin though, maybe itâs another fish? You look great in the 70 s coats, I love that navy one you got last year, itâs a stunner on you. I think the carved wooden candle sticks would look great with dried flowers.

My father used to take me to The Myrtle Wood shop on the Oregon coast near Rockaway all the time as a child and every time I drive by it I consider going in. I never do, but I should. I sometimes work at a curated resale clothing boutique down there to help out a friend, so I am there often. I love this channel!! Thanks for being an inspiration to us lifelong pickers.

the first piece you picked was the same as that brass egg they threw in as a gift at that estate sale. and that museum pottery piece said acoma pueblo which means it was hand built indigenous.
The lamp has a falcon bird design on it, not raven bird. Thereâs dripless candles available now. Great haul
I was thinking the same thing.
Change out the lamp harp for a shorter one and the shade will fit perfectly. It's the lamp harp that can make a shade sit too high on the lamp. It's an easy fix.đ
Iron-clad 'rule of thumb' in regards to lampshades.....if you love how it looks, then it's the perfect fit! LOL

Laura loved todayâs finds. Just a quick note-an easy way to fix the problem with the size of the shade is to get a shorter harp. Itâs easy to change out and you are correct that you shouldnât be able to see any of the metal on the socket of the lamp. Love the lamp base, hope you are keeping that one, itâs a statement piece for sure
The falcon lamp is cool, yes, when you look at it at eye level you should not be able to see any brass just the pottery.

Experiment with different size harps in your lamp shade. You never know...when you change the balance between the shape between the base and the shade.
I am a vintage seller as well. I have always enjoyed finding videos with others following the same path. I have my degree RASID ( Design and Architecture). I was in interior design for 15 years and landscape design for about 10. I have to tell you your a natural when it comes to design. You are spot on with the way you respect vintage sets and wood grain pieces. You have a beautiful old soul and I am so happy I have found your blog and you tube channel. I have one of those candle holders and just make sure I only use non-drip candles which tend to be the non-toxic, paraffin-free ones. They look stunning and such a conversation starter. Laura I love every single journey you take us on. Thank you for being you :)

The Jug is Mason's pottery. It is no longer made. With it having no 'Mason's' stamp on the bottom, I think it may be a really early piece and therefore worth more than ÂŁ80, due to the rarity! (I collect Mason's pottery!) Great find!!
