  • This is the final speech of the week-long competition for Connor Rothschild answering the question: "Was the US war in Afghanistan in vain?" The six premiere finalists drew random topics 30-minutes prior to their speech and crafted a 7-minute talk, followed by cross-examination from another competitor. The compiled totals of 13 rounds of speeches on various foreign policy topics earned Connor Rothschild the 2017 National Champion for International Extemporaneous Speaking (representing Kickapoo High School, Springfield MO, and Coach Jon Marc Baney). His coach at the time is now my current coach and he always uses Conner as an example for extemp.

I watched this speech maybe months ago. Hours ago, I just sat for the impromptu round of my public speaking competition. His opening suddenly came onto my mind and I used it in my impromptu, safe to say I’m still not over how good my speech was. Thank you!

Was the misspeak initially saying ~"No it was not in vain" because the argument says that it was. Great speech though.

Your not allowed to have any notecards in extemp and you have 30 minutes of prep which is why this is all the more impressive 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫

@@oliverantholz5937 I've done extemp all four years of high-school, traveling out of state to circuit tournaments, and traveling across Indiana. I have never seen a tournament allow you to use a notecard or given longer than 30 minutes of prep.
