    Short Barbet description:
    The Barbet is a medium sized athletic dog breed with average height beween 53-65 cm, which is 21-26 inches and weight is typically between 31-62 pounds, which is 14-28 kg. Females are naturally little bit smaller than males.
    The Barbet has a lot of energy and that is why they definitely need daily longer walks or hikes accompanied with some interactive playtime to stay healthy and happy. Considering their history as water dogs, it is only logical that most of them love swimming and fetching. And they do great in various dog sports, like agility or flyball.

    Are they fit for extreme cold? Do they have both a top coat & a bottom coat of hair?

      I have a barbet and I live in canada, and as long as you don't leave them outside for too long when it's really cold, they won't care. However, make sure too put boots or other winter/snow protection, because snow will easily get stuck into their fur.

    You are pronouncing their name wrong, the t is silent, it is Bar-be'. I've owned the since the late 80's and have been breeding them for the last 5 years. They are an amazing dogs.

      Hello Deepa, i completely forgot, that i already made the video about the Northern Inuit dog, which is just a different name for the Utonagan. You can check out the video here: czcams.com/video/WzDHgvsiEOI/video.html

      @@Rocadog But aren't they different? Utonagans have a more thick fur and skinny legs.

    • @Rocadog
      @Rocadog  Před 4 lety +1

      @@fake...... You are right, the coat of Utonagan looks thicker and longer and very often they have the thick mane around the neck. I contacted some breeders of Utonagan about their opinion and if they see Utonagan/Northern Inuit as the same or as separate breeds. Most information on the internet say, that they are the same dogs, but i am unsure about that, just like you. The coat just looks different. I will see what the breeders will say and if they will provide me with some good information, i will make the video about Utonagan.

      All the european water dogs such as Barbet, Spanish water dog, Poodle, Portuguese water dog or Irish Water Spaniel has strong has strong genetic links. They might not be direct relatives, but they do share some of the similar ancestry.
