As someone who was homeschooled, I can attest the struggles today make you able to meet the struggles tomorrow more successfully. You should be the most challenging teacher your Child ever has. You get out of life what you put into it.

I needed this message! Just this week, my sons have to compose and present a 3 minute speech. I considered skipping the assignment, but I thought about it and decided to keep it. In life, we all must compose information and present it in orderly ways to our audience, whether it is a spouse, a coworker, a boss, a client, or some organization that we have joined. To truly participate, we must possess this life skill. My kids are struggling through it, but they are doing it! I am glad to know that this struggle is benefitting them more than I realized.

As an adult that struggles with public speaking and just took zeros in school when it came to presentations, yes please push your kids to develop these skills ❤

My oldest are twins. My son that has struggled and struggled with learning to read is WAY more resilient and has a much better attitude about school then my daughter who learned to read super easily. She wants/thinks everything should be easy. I can see first hand how it works out.

Such great info! And contrary to popular belief…kids actually LOVE learning about how their brains work! I coach families in this exact concept and it makes all the difference for kiddos who are struggling!!

As someone who is very meticulous and has OCD it can be a struggle when something takes longer than I originally perceived it would, (or should) while homeschooling or just everyday learning activities, (and not because I am trying to be mean of course) but I have to say this video has actually given me a new perspective and a gateway for how to find patience while homeschooling and going through life with my kiddos. I am eager to put these metaphors into practice and watch how they grow! :)

Not a homeschool parent anymore, used to be but chronic health conditions said no more, but I needed this video about 3mo ago! 😆 I kept fighting with my kid over doing her homework, for up to 5hrs a night! In the last month I decided to just let her mess around and find out. She's had 2 Fs already because she left things to the last minute. I also moved to a pass/fail for the day's expectations. So far she's lost a fair number of privileges for throwing violent fits (10yo) and then earned only a few back. However she's finally learning to make better choices and listen to what her body needs. Ex: today she chose to take a "rest day" of minimal chores and only certain activities (no screens, no mess, no friends) because she realized she was feeling overwhelmed and exhausted! It took me until my 30s to learn to do that and I have been "sick" since my teens! It's amazing what happens when we get out of the way 😊

The barrel racer in me is so distracted by the fact that they are digging in an arena and how quickly they hit that hard pan, that I had to listen without watching 😂😂😂.
Timely message. We are in the middle of a productive struggle in our homeschool. ❤

amen!!! School is about learning as long as you are seeing progress, then they are learning and they need to learn at their own pace. Children are not computers crammed with info they need skills to live with.

    Excellent point!
Struggle = failure, this is where my brain takes me. To this day learning a new skill especially hands on I have to fight frustration.
IMO there is a place for rote memorization in math, if you don’t really memorize facts it’s all much harder.
Please consider doing more homeschool videos.
I do not mind sponsored videos but sometimes the ads feel a bit long☹️

The explanation of the brain's trek in learning is such an important piece to understand! And then add on early childhood trauma (abandonment/adoption) - those pathways are all mixed up, brain's on high alert, diffusing the ability to make those important synapses. If only everyone could take a class on this topic, we'd be in a much better place as a society, especially in the realm of education. Thanks for taking the time to dive into this, Angie! Loved this topic and your insight!

This was wonderful!! I am a second generation homeschooler and what you are saying is right on. What I learned is struggle is opportunity and that has served me so well! Presenting it this way when children are small makes it a fun challenge rather then a dread. My son and daughter love “challenges” but that is because I changed the perception for them and I’m so glad for that! ❤

I thought I hated math until I started crocheting. It's nothing but math with crochet. You have to figure out how many yards you have based on how many grams you have, how many grams it takes to finish a row and how many rows you can get out of a skein based on that number. There are loads of ratios and percentages that you have to figure out in crochet.

I can't speak for her, but after watching her for a while, I am pretty sure she would say you aren't failing your kids. I think she is just trying to make a point about never letting them struggle at all. Then, hopefully, the next time a struggle is happening, maybe it can be looked at differently. Once it is looked at differently, then we can respond to it differently.
