  • Can you increase your IQ? Yes, you definitely can. In this video i explain how i increased my IQ by 13 points.
    If you have ever wondered how to increase your IQ or if it is even possible to increase IQ (spoiler, it is!) then this is the video to watch. I took an official Mensa IQ test to prove that my IQ has increased by 13 points.
    Leave a comment if you have any questions and i will address them in my next videos

    one idea i had for increasing spatial intelligence would be to try to draw from memory. like if you're wanting to sketch a character, instead of looking at them the entire time of drawing, you would just take a quick glance and try to remember as many details as possible. i don't know if it would actually be that effective but it made sense to me. getting better at drawing from memory would possibly enable you to think in clearer, more vivid images, thus making you a more visual learner

      I've actually developed this ability quite substantially for note taking in particular. I used to have to glance back after a few words, but I eventually got to the point where I could copy a few sentences. Or read through a paragraph and copy down what is essential, faster.

    Improvement within continuous facets tends to be logarithmic. With this in mind do you feel that the majority of that 13 point increase can be attributed to year or couple months of training? If not, why not? And do feel the improvement has been linear?

    • @InfiniteIQ
      @InfiniteIQ  Před 2 lety +21

      Yes the IQ point increase / brain training scores seem to follow a logarithmic progression, but at the same time each 1 point increase in IQ represents an exponentially stronger intelligence, so in terms of overall mental strength vs the general population the progress has been linear

    How many questions are in the test and how much time do you have? I feel as if any time pressure would drastically lower my scores because once I get it in my head that I have a limited time and it becomes a massive distraction and often I will just be constantly thinking about the time when taking tests. Ik speed of problem solving is supposed to be a massive aspect of iq but I feel as if there are too many variables other than just intelligence that could affect someones ability to take a test under time pressure.

    • @InfiniteIQ
      @InfiniteIQ  Před 2 lety +1

      It was hundreds of questions and about 1.5hrs, other countries tests might be different though, this was Mensa Australia. Increased intelligence results in increased speed in solving simple problems as well as increased ability to solve more complex problems, so I think it is valid to have a speed component to the test

      @@InfiniteIQ I don't per say think that intelligence isn't based somewhat on speed of solving simple problems, but that forcing someone to solve problems as fast as they can will not always give the most accurate result. Too many factors other than intelligence may collude with the results like current attention span and focus, nerves, sleep etc. I'm not saying there shouldn't be a time component, there probably should, but all I'm saying is I think more time but more difficult questions would generally be more accurate in determining iq.

      @@InfiniteIQ Hey, could you make a video detailing your current progress? I'm really curious about all the benefits, big or small, that you've seen from boosting your working memory capacity and IQ. Some folks claim that training with dual-n-back for a year only gave them minimal benefits, while others have seen significant improvements in a shorter period of time. Why do you think these results differ so much, even when the same amount of training is done each day? I'm starting to wonder, do certain people just gain much more from this kind of training?
      Could you also explain why there are so many people, including researchers, who claim that dual/quad-n-back doesn't work? It's clearly working for you, yet there are others who say they don't see any benefits, even after committing to a significant amount of training and being motivated to improve.
      I'm 16 years old with an IQ of around 120, but my working memory is abysmal, so I'm trying to improve it. The more research I do on techniques like quad/dual-n-back to increase IQ, the more confused I get. There's a lot of mixed opinions out there. Some people claim their IQ has increased by 20 points using these methods, while others say they saw no change, no matter what they tried. There's also a theory that quad/dual-n-back just improves focus and concentration, which could give the illusion of increased working memory capacity. There are so many conflicting experiences and viewpoints that I'm just not sure what to think.
      I really want to do well on my exams next year and I'm willing to do whatever it takes to maximize my intelligence. Right now, I struggle with several things: slow reading and processing speed, a low working memory, and poor focus and concentration. I'd really appreciate any advice you might have on what I could try to significantly raise my IQ in the next six months (if that's even possible to increase IQ).
      I'm sure there are also plenty of people in the same boat as me - confused. Since you're pretty much the only one actively trying techniques to boost your IQ and documenting it on CZcams, it would be great if you could clarify things for everyone. Thanks for taking the time to read this!

    Without the obvious limitations of this experiment (no placebo, nobody to compare it to, the practice effect, and the issue of motivation giving an increased score when compared to baseline). It also seems like you're very committed to the idea of if you work hard you can increase you're IQ making the data clearly skewed. A smaller issue but one that is likely to remediated because of its similarity is that you are using quad n back making it a little hard for me if I was even attempting to compare it to somebody else because almost all studies dealing with working memory training use dual n back. If your previous score is real you are also someone that most people cannot necessarily be said to be in your demographic. In one study it was found that people that got benefits towards their fluid intelligence the most were people that had structural parts of their brain associated with variable connectivity amongst various parts of the brain, and that they were the minority. This suggests that even if you did actually improve your fluid intelligence its likely not something that anyone can just do. But from my perspective the reason you achieved pretty favorable results is likely a combination of luck, grit, uniqueness, and a clear bias. (I'm not trying to attack you, sorry if it comes across that way).

    • @InfiniteIQ
      @InfiniteIQ  Před rokem +16

      I was not committed to the idea when I started, I was optimistic and thought the idea of being able to increase IQ made sense rationally, but I was still skeptical, and I estimated it would be a 50/50 chance that I would be completely wasting my time, which given the potential benefits was a worthwhile gamble of my time. I agree that grit was required, but the other factors you mentioned had nothing to do with it. It is the same as any type of physical training, most who start will give up and quit, and a small percentage who push through the pain will adapt and grow and reach a peak level of functioning

      @@InfiniteIQ I'm sorry but there is an obvious bias, even if it may not be apparent which is why there is the placebo effect, and even if you suggest that you being rational and unlikely to succumb to irrational behavior, bias has been noted in even the most skeptical (aka scientists). And its even been noted that the placebo effect is greater in areas where there isn't alot of rationale behavior. I'm not trying to undermine your character but we have no idea if you are as you claimed to be fully rational and functioning being, and even if you are as I've stated that merely minimizes the effect of bias. And I honestly don't know about how the rest of my argument falls apart from what was noted, motivation was one you even state in your reply ("...and a small percentage who push through the pain will adapt and grow and reach a peak level of functioning") something akin to what I'd call a motivated outlook. And yes all the obvious problems I've noted are big issues if your trying to generalize your results to the whole population and even suggesting it worked with you. Typically in a psychological experiment to prove something definitely is happening in the mind you need large data (a couple hundred at least, but it also depends vastly on what type of study your doing) and usually the gold standard in this case a double blind placebo control would've been marvelous. I'm sorry but your no where near that.

    • @AsianTaile
      @AsianTaile Před rokem +1

      Ah one more thing, about the motivation, in studies dealing with dual n back it was noted that on average they further they progressed in dual n back the more fluid intelligence transferred. However what mediated this transfer was motivation, in fact its been well known that merely offering people 100$ per question correct on an IQ test can improve peoples IQ by as much as 20 points. I recall Richard Feynman when he turned down Mensa when they asked if he wanted to join and he replied "my IQ isn't high enough(his school iq test registered he had a 125)". A psychologist many years later asked feynman if he could do another IQ test, but he asked Feynman specifically if he could try. Feynman was stunned afterwards as somehow his IQ registered at around 20 points higher. Any ways thought I'd make sure you understood how big motivation plays.

      @InfiniteIQ  Před rokem +15

      @@AsianTaile You seem to be missing the main point. Obviously a lot more research into the field of increasing intelligence needs to be done. One could wait for that research to be done (decades) or one could take action now, gambling time for a possible huge head start. And even if my results are partially or entirely due to the placebo effect, what difference does that make? If anything it would be even more impressive if the gain was due to the placebo effect

    • @AsianTaile
      @AsianTaile Před rokem +1

      @@InfiniteIQ Well I haven't spoken to you or have seen many of your videos so its hard to infer exactly where your mind is and what exactly you are trying to prove. If you really think its amazing that the placebo effect can do so much then just keep on doing you I guess, but I'm gonna keep doing me because that'll have the same effect as to you except I'm spending more time doing things that have a better shot at making a happier than to "push through the pain", or hey even have a better shot at actually improving intellect. And yes, there are much much better more researched topics in the literature with more observational changes that have been noted in the brain and behaviorally, and do have scientific explanations as for a causal link as to why it might improve intelligence.

      Update on my progress.
      Almost a year of training, 5 days a week, apart from some breaks due to preparation university exams and other personal problems.
      I added image streaming to my training routine, about 15-20 minutes a day (+ 30 minutes of quad n back).
      Lately I have also added creatine, about 3 grams per day.
      I reached level 4 in the quad n back.
      11 months ago I was getting an average of 100-110 on IQ tests (all online; pre-test canteen Norway and pre-test canteen Denmark, + other rapid tests), level 1-2 quad.
      Now I get scores between 130 and 135.
      It's a big difference.
      Small reflection on the two types of training: in my experience, quad n back is more suitable for matrix reasoning, puzzles, etc. Problems in which visuospatial reasoning is predominant. I say this because I noticed that IQ test scores correlated with level in the quad. I believe it is appropriate to also take into consideration the level of interference (around 20% in my case) to have a more precise estimate.
      I didn't notice any correlation in tests that mainly measure verbal intelligence, for example finding differences between words, understanding analogies, etc. but I noticed that the scores on these tests increased after introducing image streaming. So, regarding verbal intelligence, I believe that image streaming can give better results.
      As regards the benefits I obtained from the two types of training, I noticed a greater speed of learning, a better problem solving ability (especially in subjects such as mathematics and computer science) and a more complex syntax.
      I am able to have a depth of analysis better than before I started training. My strategic skills have also improved. I also add a better awareness of the origin of the emotions I feel, therefore better management of emotions. Less mental effort when thinking about abstract concepts.
      Nothing else to add for now.

      As for the benefits I've seen in real life:
      - Greater processing speed, less time required to formulate a speech.
      - Greater analysis capacity. - It is easier to relate apparently detached concepts.
      - Slight improvement in vision.
      - My mind extrapolates patterns automatically, for example I hear another person speaking and the thought appears "this person is saying this for x reason". Therefore greater ability to understand the intentions of others.
      - Better introspection, I can manage my emotions better.
      - Some irrational fears have decreased, I imagine due to the improvement of the areas of the brain responsible for logical reasoning, in short it is easier to rationalize certain fears. (I have read some studies that tested working memory training, with dual n back, in the adjuvant treatment of psychological pathologies).
      - Improved ability to concentrate.
      - Less difficulty in understanding abstract concepts, typical of mathematics and computer science.
      - Ease of finding "holes" in speeches.
      Maybe I'm forgetting something. If I notice anything else, I'll update the comment.
      Unfortunately, these benefits are not always present, it depends a lot on the amount of energy I have available.

      At your age I would not recommend intensive brain training like I have done, as your brain is still going through a maturation process that will continue well into your 20's
      I would recommend focusing on how you can improve your social skills to a peak level (this can be trained even easier than IQ) and focus on learning a high value skill that you can become world class at. Those are far more important to your long term success/happiness, particularly as your IQ is already very high. Once you are in your 20's and have mastered those two areas you can then look into increasing your intelligence further if you see a need for it

But ofc you can increase your IQ-score if you really want to, for whatever reason there is. Maths, puzzle, problem solving, etc. theres tons of ways to train and improve. Like, the very first time you play the piano will be pretty bad. With lots of practice you WILL get better, much better. Is way moore than JUST very unrealistic. 195 is ultra-genius, perharps 1 man per generation. I am affraid you are dreaming, especially 13 points is allready diffrence like between student and doctor. On the other hand its better to have any goal than none... Good film.

      @@InfiniteIQ There actually is. I mentioned about in the previous message. I guess that to gain even 30 points diffrence(its diffrent person to be honest), there must appear some gene mutation or must be used some chemical booster much stronger than Adderal(if you know some, let me know..:) ) However 13 points is super good result. Dont take me wrong, I dont claim you are stupid. Prabobly smarter than others, but very unlikely genius. Sry for eventual language mistakes.

      @@robertrutkowski2968 humans are infinitely malleable, we are adaption machines. This is why 195 IQ is possible, and if it means becoming a completely different person then that is what will happen, I consider myself almost unrecognizable already after just a 13 point gain

      Well...i still claim is impossible. The limits are build-in our genotype. For the same reason people with trisomia of 21-st chromosome (Down Disease ) never approach doctor degree or never understand things of bigger complexity than hoovering a floor. Diffrence beetween us and ultra-genius with 195 iq is even bigger than between us and people with Down.
      But...lets say there is chance. What for? Do you know that people who had iq around 200 just didn't cope with that, they saw and understood things we never even dreamt about. And finally they just lost their mind. Example? William James Sidiss.
      BTW, do you use any nootropics..? I do use and I noticed some improovement..

    It is not possible to increase the fluid IQ, when we practice some tests or set of tests due to practice and familiarity the score may increase and if we test it, it will be more of crystallized IQ because then as we have prior learning, if given a set of entirely now problems, we can witness that the ability to solve the problem will drop down and comes at natural pace.
    Note, if some is scoring less in IQ due to some psychological conditions like stress or anxiety...etc. That is different though. That will give get change in score if the psychological conditions are corrected though.
