As much as I agree on some aspect of your criticism I disagree on some 1 His bow grip not flexible but aside that I would advice that you do your research about how the modern bow hold came to be I personally believe that the art of violin is wide an encompassing the modern bow grip itself francobelgian and it variables are complicated and with flaws as well, the Baroque era players had a more natural and simple bow grip, the similar bow grip type very common with fiddlers and you know fiddlers often have the most extreme flexibility in there wrist.2; It is not true that contact point does not matter on electric violin it thus still matter and mind You there are various types of electric violins and with electrified amplified instrument if you apply all the tricks you know in the acoustic world ,you are going to sound bad the reason been that the piezo pickup will pick up everything including your bow noise and undertones that would sound great when playing acoustically but the moment you amplify your instrument, then rolloff compression and more would be necessary. 3; Electric violin are less forgiven if you have bad bowing technic you may end up with lots harmonics sounding tone in your playing and the worst part is that it would be amplified and mind you harmonics sound are stronger on electric violins especially solid body one's compared to an acoustic violin. Therefore any player that sounding bad acoustically would sound worse electric. 4; I am a classically trained sculptor and violinist with a music background, and I do agree with you that people should practice and do all the musical gymnastics but at the end of the day are we making music for scholars or professor in musical institutions or for the ordinary people that makes up the majority that would buy the music. 5; Another that I disagree with is that just because a piece is difficult or complicated technics were used doesn't necessarily it's better, for example are tremolos technics difficult on the violin not necessarily but does it sound difficult and magical yes, would I want to use it in composition simply because it would make my music more difficult? No I would use it because sounds good. what you play it's inconsequential but how you play it would be more beneficial to the audience. 5; It is true that intonation would be affected when dancing and playing, but can you still dance vigorously and still have clean intonation? Yes you can but it requires additional practice in addition to the violin practice.7; A Global stage performance is not your typical conservatory audition or competition here showmanship, versatility in the genre of music and how you use the stage important here, for example how about the fusion of India carnatic classical & western classical on the violin what magic would it create those are kind of the things they want to see and hear.

Depending on his signal chain you'd be correct that playing louder will result in more distortion. If his amp/amp sim has enough headroom then it won't, but he has enough gain on there its certainly whats happening. I think his tone sucks too for that matter, not enough highs and too much gain. I like the delay/reverb on it though.
As someone who spends a lot of time playing an electric 6 string, I've found you nearly always get better results playing more quietly and turning the amp up rather than trying to force the issue.

As much as I'd feel super embarrassed to do what he did, I support all violinists, even the ones like him. They're making the violin more popular.
I personally hate electric violins, the sound is just so ugly. But it is his thing. I imagine he didn't have money to buy a real instrument.
The public seemed to enjoy his music. I found it horrible. But why should only my personal taste be considered good? We have to understand and respect that some people like this kind of horrible noise and perceive it as music. I think they just get stimulated by the movement on stage, loud sounds, or whatever rocks their boat. And they don't care if you make ugly sounds, if your bow hold isn't good, etc. So, they're pretty forgiving.
If he got the public's empathy and compassion, then he has inspired positive emotions on lots of people, even if he got it because of a sad story and not due to talent as a musician. Let's say he has shown talent as an entertainer.
As for king of the violin, it probably is just a joke based on his middle name. It looks like his entertainer personna is a clown, so, just another thing to make people to laugh.

Most people don't even listen carefully what they like, not to mention pieces they hear for the first time. I remember we had some local buskers "playing" electric violin, saying they were desperate for money, and often would have their kids with them. I stopped to watch them one day and noticed they were not playing at all. Eventually, law enforcement put out a warning that legally the buskers were within their rights, but there was good information that they were lying about needing money for housing. The comments overwhelmingly were in favor of the lying buskers. Anyone who pointed out they weren't really playing were called a Karen and it didn't matter if they played, all that matters is they entertained. It was crazy. But that is the world we live in. Talent and hardwork are often overlooked for the price of free or cheap entertainment. I tell this story to say that we are learning more about the crowds than the players. At least this guy is playing and dancing.but I agree. It is much more a spectacle than an art form. I give Lindsey Stirling credit. I think she has at least made an art form with her compositions and dancing. She is a talented dancer and if you hear her play her acoustic violin, she plays well. I think she has at least elevated the showmanship a bit and deserves credit. Maybe that is an unpopular opinion here, not sure. But I do think there is a place for showmanship and it needs to be judged for overall creation and execution.

One of my favourite violinist (and a huge inspiration why I started playing) plays in a german Folk band. He drinks, dances, jumps and everything else while playing. As an acoustic and electric violinist I agree 100% with the observations and commentary, and would add that the intonation was particularly bad in the 2nd video. The performance, in a word was, 'cringy'.
The claim to be 'King' or 'Queen' of violin is inappropriate. The highest level of technical skill on violin is only part of what contributes to a truly great performance. The interpretation and tonal quality and colour of violin playing, are what connects the violinist and their audience. Every 'performer' contributes their own personal style and interpretation to the music they play. It can therefore never be claimed that any virtuoso violinist is 'King'. We all have preferred soloists. At the top of my preferred contemporary soloists are Hilary Hahn, and Augustin Hadelich, which does not mean that I dislike or regard as inferior, Benedetti, or Perlman, or the great violinists of previous generations such as Heifitz, Menuhin, Oistrakh etc etc
Sadly, this BGT performer is not a good role model for those who wish to learn violin.

But if the repertoire you like would work well with an electric violin, then that is sufficient. If you are worried about the neighbors, I'd check out the Yamaha silent violin. It is electric, but is meant to be amplified or play with headphones. That is how I got into electric (but I had an acoustic base). I worked shift work and had nothing to do past midnight. Tried playing the electric violin today and definitely noticed changes in technique:
    - You get a better sound by playing closer to the fingerboard and using half the hairs, use the amp to get the volume as needed
    - Tremolos sound better if you just hold the bow with 2 fingers and use the finger movement to move the bow
    - Probably need a little more resin on the bow compared to the normal violin because you are playing lighter. Need more grip and you won't get the whistle sound because you won't be pressing down on the string as much
You should try playing an electric violin too, you might come to slightly different conclusions but I guarantee that you will notice some changes

To be honest, I could not see any basis for your rant about this guy. First of all, I did not hear himself once claiming to be the 'king of violin'. I understood that king is simply part of his name, as is not uncommon in the US as far as I know. Secondly, I fully agree with your thoughts on the cringe stories about cancer, dead dads who they want to make proud and their childhood dreams they finally fulfill. But I also understand that that is how AGT works. They are probably encouraged to tell such stuff. And again, yanks seem to love it, they are usually into emotional tosh. And thirdly, I never heard him make any particular comments about his talent, level of skill or ambitions. He wanted to give it a shot with what he can do. If it entertains people and he can make a living out of it, good for him. He may be the first to acknowledge that he is not suited for the level of serious classic music competition. Which is why he's at AGT. So I find your go at him a bit unfair.

Hey! Nearing the end of the video, we saw that he calls himself the King of Violin on his CZcams page and on several other videos. Sure, he probably used it as his nickname because his name contained the word "King." I know he didn’t comment on his quality of skill, but you would expect a little more attention to these basic technical elements. Another main reason I made this video is because these so-called "sad stories" are replacing genuine talent, and AGT is drastically shifting the spotlight from very promising future prodigies, which makes people undervalue them when they see a classical performer standing still without smoke machines and colourful lights. Five years ago, if you searched "king of violin" on Google Images, you would find soloists like Heifetz and company. Now this guy is all over the search engine when you Google him, which saddens me. I hope this clarifies some things for you.

I don't know why people get so butthurt when you critique someone based on a public performance they've given, there's nothing mean spirited about giving someone an honest critique and these people use their sob stories as a way to shield themselves from any criticism and use cheap gimmicks and sympathy to get attention instead of working on their skill at their instrument like the rest of us do. Nothing wrong with offering valid criticism on a public performance, or did you think that people are only allowed to compliment art and not allowed to give their true feelings on the matter?

He is criticizing the arrogance, not the fact that he has technical issues. And these videos help other musicians catch mistakes themselves or doing: wether with attitude or execution of technique.
If he was elitist he would just say to give up, he wouldnt actually be able to make valid points like this because elitism is about bullying, not about seeing a problem, then addressing it in a way where others learn.

I think he was the inventor of the metal seven string electric violin (I know he tried to patent something). Anyway, like so many others with talent and a prayer, he left to find his fortune in L.A.
Unfortunately, it never really worked out for him either. For me, the problem is that when you close your eyes, it just sounds like another Van Halen-esque electric guitar. He probably would have done better had he, in fact, stuck to well known covers of Van Halen, and the like, but instead, he insisted on playing his own (unknown) compositions.
Anyway, if you see him on CZcams, it's obvious that at least Armand is a real musician, compared to the guy in this clip.

When someone with a disability shares their experience, its not for pity, its bragging rights for hard work, discipline, resilience and for successfully overcoming obstacles that their competitors have not. You'll notice there are a lot of anti affirmative action people praising your words. What all of you seem to not get about affirmative action is that its the only way to ensure true meritocracy. If you are competing on an obstacle course, but your opponents course is more complex, with more challenges and higher difficulty, and you tie, you didn't actually tie.. Your opponent won. If you perform a piece at a higher level of difficulty and make a couple mistakes right before another violinist performs a much simpler piece with zero mistakes, it would be silly to assume they are a better performer than you. This video comes across incredibly arrogant and presumptuous. I love the idea of challenging other performers online like video game competitors, but I think you could do it with a bit more class. If you are so fantastic at the violin, stick to showing your chops in comparison to the other performers. Be a good sport about it. Make it fun. Leave out all the supercilious bullshit or lean into it in a facetious way. Condescendingly explaining to disabled performers whether they should share their experience or not is way more cringy than anything this performer said.

Hey! Thanks for your comment. I do see where you’re coming from. However, I do believe that there are certain conventional principles that are needed in order to create a good basic sound. Proper bow hold wasn’t created by classical musicians; it was created because it was the most optimal way to make a good sound. Proper weight distribution, bow hold, and parallel placement are all necessary to make a good sound. Unfortunately, this violinist didn’t apply any of these principles, and as a teacher, I feel obliged to make the remarks I did to help other beginners achieve greater potential in their sound. I suppose I would have one more question before concluding this reply. Would you like to have a teacher who neglects all of these technical elements and just encourages you to have fun? I don’t think anyone would. Finally, I didn’t judge; I simply made common remarks about the mistakes he made that beginners on the violin usually make. I hope you can also see my perspective, and I hope I can have you aboard this channel one day:)

Modern string players who are good do have good technique

Honestly, it doesn't bother me that he is dancing as part of his routine. If you want to be a showman with a violin, perfectly fine! You dont even have to play the most advanced pieces. But I do hope that you would at least show good skills in the areas you are showing. His dancing isn't impressive. His playing isn't impressive. His compositions are ok. But not talent show worthy from what I'm seeing here. I'm hoping as we eneter the age of more electric stringed instruments, musicians will find ways to make it a more impressive craft.
I will also say, that with an electric point, yes, you may not need to care as much about the contact point, but at the same time, your poor technique is also amplified. So it does you good to play clean as much as possible.

Karolina Protsenko is a good example of a performer who is a wonderful player and exploring movement/dance in her performances. But she hasn't sacrificed her playing abilities or quality of music in order to draw a crowd. I think it takes a high level of art and creativity to be a one man show successfully.

This video is everything why I left the classical community, despite still loving classical music. The Twoset effect.
A "teacher" (who has only posted meme videos and content farming content on violin himself) acting as an authority judging a pop violinist on classical standards. Assuming that because a technique is not necessarily difficult, means it is somehow a detriment to the music. My brother in Christ, if something sounds good to people, then they will like it. I'm sorry you think that something being technically harder makes you somehow more deserving as an artist of fame/recognition. "It takes the spotlight away from (classical artists)" ??!? If you are losing the spotlight while doing hard techniques, it might be time to stop immaturely blaming others and people's "bad taste" for your lack of success and might just be time to start considering trying some easier techniques, because I hate to tell ya this, but if you don't sound good on techniques people don't give a crap about how difficult they are. If you truly work and achieve a great tone like Hadelich or Jansen, you will rise and be noticed. But if you put in that work and still are not good enough, don't blame and try to take others down, just because the techniques are technically less difficult, because, hate to break it to you, but this guy has an audience who likes him for his playing. You have an audience of people who like you for videos tearing other violinists down (as your most viewed videos prove). So ask yourself this: who is more of an artist, based on that? Maybe think on it.
