They actually taught etiquette when I was in elementary school. I'm 68. When I taught College, I had a student who came late to class, walked right in front of me while I was lecturing and plunked his backpack noisily on his desk. I asked him if he hadn't ever been taught manners. And he said no. He was serious. So I taught the class how to enter the room when they were late in a polite way and no one ever did it wrong again.
This is something that should be taught at home. Commoners are no longer "relegated to the back of the house", so it should be common place at this point in society to teach basic manners at home. But I guess we are on the track of "burn anything that is traditional down to the ground". 🙄
One of my grandmothers was from England and the other grew up in east coast "society", so I got it from both sides of family. 😄 I do recall though in early elementary that teachers would emphasize using manners and had us intentionally practice them. I'm 49. I guess things started falling fairly quickly after my generation.

Yes; I’ve routinely gone round trip cross country on Spirit for less than 150. The key is being able to pack for several days in a backpack in order to avoid luggage fees, and remembering to bring your own water. The clientele is interesting to say the least, but you really can’t beat the price.

My dad was a pilot for Pan Am and United . When I flew , it was a special occasion- i dressed up and was on my best behavior. It was a given. At one time, that is what passengers did.
It's sad that that attitude has lapsed in our country. I always dress appropriately for plane travel. I hate the nasty outfits some people wear nowadays. It's just ugly.

In the 60's, my dad always tried to fly Continental, because the stewardesses on each flight were all beautiful and had the same hair color.

I'm retired from the Navy and have several friends who are commercial airline pilots. I asked them about bad behavior and the answer is consistently this - the cheaper the seat the worse the behavior.

Its just an uncomfortable truth that any time you have "economically" priced anything, you're going to have an increase in awful behavior. People aren't lower class because they're so mature, rational, and intelligent.
I don’t understand this thinking. I’m retired. I like to find an affordable flight but I was brought up to treat others with respect. My young adult kids are on a budget but they’re respectful. I was a trial attorney. I met many disrespectful professionals. I wasn’t one of them. I’ve known a lot of people in service industries who would qualify as poor and I’ve seen them mistreated by professionals. Of course if I happened to witness it I would speak up for the person being abused. This is just an entitled nasty woman. I’m glad she got the heave ho.

the main problem is that airlines cater to the rudeness and give money to those that behave this way because they are afraid of being sued. For example, the woman who actually peed in the airplane aisle because she was told to wait to use the bathroom.. The airline paid her money for her distress and F the rest of the people on that airplane that actually behaved.

Look... My father taught flight attendants emergency procedures for United Airlines...I grew up around this stuff. When you agree to sit in an "Exit Row" you must agree that 1) you are physically able to open the door and get yourself out of it without additional assistance (this, in certain circumstances means being able to lift and handle the door (window exit) or be able to manipulate the door level) and 2) be willing and able to follow directions...usually meaning "Open the door" or "Don't open THAT door!" when told to. The benefits of this means that you get extra legroom...I always love flying in the "Exit Row."
This woman demonstrated that she fails miserably at #2... She can't and won't follow even reasonable directions. She shouldn't be anywhere NEAR an exit row. If you needed her to do something...or NOT do something...she's not going to be dependable. I'd bet money that in the case of an actual emergency she'd be a menace, not a help. She'd probably be screaming and shouting and climbing over people to get her fat...bottom...off the plane. She'd be the reason MORE people would die, not fewer.

My husband is a retired captain for Northwest /Delta airlines with 35 years service. Today there are crazies flying every airline, in every walk of life, every race, every ethnicity, etc. it wasnt always this way. Flying USED to be a classy experience. As society has degenerrated with lack of manners and lack of accountability it has resorted to this. Its embarrassing really. It show the LACK of home training that used to be EXPECTED from everyone. Now, if we see someone being courteous and having good manners we are almost shocked as it is a rarity.

The family falling apart is one aspect of the problems we have. Entertainment, TV, music and esp access to the Internet is also destroying the principles that we one held high. in general I'm not a fan of the idea that passenger safety is left up to "who ever sits next to the door". Especially in this day and age with how many lunatics there are out there. The best person to be sat at the door should be a father with children (regardless of skin colour).
I sat in the exit row. When the flight attendant checked in with me to make sure I suit the criteria, I said yes AND asked (and was provided with) a brief education of how and when to remove the exit door etc. ok and simple to ask
Without her answer, everyone knows she wasn't helping anyone in an emergency. She'd be first out the door, hell or high water, and heaven help you if you find yourself between her and that door.
She would get her big rear stuck, and everyone would die.

There was just recently a tragedy on a plane with severe turbulence (one person even died). You don’t want people like this stubborn, uncooperative lady on your plane and especially not in the emergency row. She’s putting everyone in danger.
This is why, even though she may have finally said "yes" to help, this instability made her unreliable in the exit row.

Yes, that happened to me. I wouldn’t book that row intentionally, we were moved into those seats. When the steward came back around to give the speech about helping others out I had to say no because of illness, I’m just way too weak to be helping anyone. It caused some delay but NBD.

Twice I have been moved to the emergency row. Once, when the tiny 92 year old woman(she admitted her age) in the row in front of me, told the flight attendant she would be useless in an emergency. And once when the man sitting in the exit row did not speak English, as I happened to be passing him and the flight attendant in the aisle during boarding. He moved without issue.
I've only ever had the emergency door seat once. I was 8 months pregnant and would have had no problem opening the bloody door. I did NOT decline and was prepared to do what needed doing. Like I told the stewardess, I'm pregnant not injured.
You don't even have to look at the video to know who is creating a ruckus.
I remember reading the requirements once and said "this seat allows me to beat everyone off the plane."
The airline industry should let it be known that if you are troublesome enough to be ejected from the aircraft. You should be place on a NO FLY LIST, Period. Problem solved.

I mistakenly argued with a flight attendant about a mask. Not that I wasn't wearing one, I was wearing two, the problem was one was a respirator with a vent. I then had a mask over the vent. (Don't judge me about Covid paranoia, I believe only proper respirators do anything) I ended up having to have a conversation with Federal Agents.

In the public sector, you are correct. If she works for the government, then this is the attitude that prevales.
People like her need to always have a lawyer available.
They want their own magazines, colleges, etc.; how about their own airlines ? !!
No consequences is why we have so many of these troublesome people. How about she is made to pay for everyone's missed flight? I forget that makes sense and this is clown world.
