This misses the fact that he had just lifted 248kg, which was an all-time best for him. He only needed to lift 250 to get silver, but he promised his wife he would get the gold. He decided to lift 258kg. A 10kg jump over his last lift, a feat almost unprecedented in weightlifting. This was also his third and last attempt. After this day, he competed for many years, and continued to get stronger and break records. But never again did he ever lift 258kg. It was a lift which literally took every single thing he had in him. A once in a lifetime lift. There were truly 4 hands on that bar that day. That raw emotion after his personal best ever lift. The human mind is strong as hell if you push yourself to the absolute limit because of a promise you made to the person you love most in life
He was 4th after the snatch and needed to cnj 255 kg in his last attempt...Way more than he ever lifted before.... His emotion when he stands at the podium with the picture of her to receive the gold medal is also worthy to re-watch
I lost my beautiful wife of 23 years to cancer last year and I've been taking it out on the weights at the gym. That animation hits like a freight train. I love and miss you, Jess.
This brings me to tears every time I watch it. Because it’s so pure. No negativity. Just a person doing everything he can to honor a promise he made, even though she is not there to witness it. Nothing can beat this
🥺When the animated spirit came up! I about dropped a damn tear fr! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 I’m late on the news but Bless that man! May the lord and your wife forever be with you. Prayers sent 🙏🏾
Damn they didn’t have to throw the animation in there 😭😭 I miss my wife more than anything I promised her I would be an artist and take care of her family. One day I will fulfill my promise as this man did here, god bless him and his awesome strength.
Thank you all for standing with me. I’m forever grateful 🙏🏼 I will not let you down and when I make it I will not forget those who stood with me from the start 🙌🏼
The passing of someone we Truly Love can either make you, or break you, sometimes both. But when we heal, we are so much stronger than what we once were. Humbled, more sympathetic, and far more Loving at times than most others who haven’t experienced that kind of loss. God Bless this Man.
This was a truly amazing moment. For those less familiar to weightlifting, it consists of adding up the totals of two different styles of lift, the snatch, and the clean and jerk. You also get a maximum of three attempts for each style of lift. Finally, everyone uses the same platform and barbell, and the weight loaded on the barbell only goes up; it's a little similar to high jump in that regard. Steiner hit a new competition personal record in the snatch, but this was only enough to put him fourth, 7kg behind his main rival, Chigishev. Chigishev starts strongly with his clean and jerk, and then makes 247kg for his second attempt. Steiner misses his opener, and then hits 248kg, a fantastic result and also a comp PR, but still not enough to overcome Chigishev's total. Around this point every other lifter fails to lift the weight, and so it's just our two lifters left, each with only one attempt remaining. Chigishev must know he's close to his limit, he attempts 250kg and makes it. This leaves only one lift left in the entire competition. Steiner has one shot at glory, but to do so he has to make 258kg, a 10kg jump between lifts, 12kg more than he had ever clean and jerked prior to the Olympics, and 15kg more than his previous total record. I probably don't have to explain how insane that it. He struggles, but somehow manages to keep the lift overhead, and becomes a legend.
This reminds me at the end of Rocky II. Rocky just won the heavyweight championship of the world, he thanks everyone even his opponent for this. And he says these last words, “I just want to say this, to my wife who is home. YO ADRIAN! I DID IT!”
Im going through a bit of a tough moment, this has inspired me. There is always a big reason that moves us. ❤❤❤❤ this guy didnt just won a gold medal. This is real strength

That's so wonderful and beautiful.... This brought tears of happiness because he knew she was there with him the whole time supporting him all the way.... He loves her so much!
