Phil is in incredible pain caused by kidney stone. Claire calls 911 and gets dressed up with lipstick and heels for the firemen, who are reputed to be hot. Phil gets upset but Claire claims it was the first thing she found. When Phil is under the influence of medicines, Claire confesses to Phil which Phil remembers and wants to hold on to for time time and use it a later point, however things don't go according to his plan.

What I meant is there are other jokes in Modern Family that will seem funny at first but when I rewatch the same joke, it's not as funny as the first time. Having had several kidney stones, I can say the pain is other worldly, but Phil is going way over the top. With my first one, I didnt go to the hospital until my wife found me passed out on the bathroom floor. I've just rode out the others until they passed.

Edit: Honestly people, it's fine! We don't seriously need to talk out the pain levels of kidney stones, vaginal deliveries, and kicks in the balls. I was making a sassy while referring to an honest, fearless comedy show full of sassy punchlines and honest sarcasm ... and therefore kinda expected the majority of fans to take get that sense of humor as it points out exactly what this Modern Family episode implies: That, unlike the stereotypical idea of masculine strength + fearlessness, men can be quite whimsical and dramatic and honestly convinced that no other humans is going through a comparable dilemma. 😄 Other than that - clearly exaggerated - trope, I'm very much aware of the various factors we'd have to consider when comparing men and women's average pain levels in different medical scenarios (e.g. a woman who's given birth under an effective epidural is less likely to rank that pain over kidney stones or even an appendicitis). ...I just didn't consider that necessary as this is not a ted talk but a light and fun sitcom channel.

It's fine, both genders got their strengths and women are designed to go through that shit, physically and mentally. Just don't start a conversation online about scenarios you consider more demanding than natural birth - You'll never win that one!

In addition, men's urethras aren't as large as women, and there are many women who experienced both and claimed kidney stones are more painful. 2 women don't represent the millions who disagree.

I find it interesting how quickly they decide to go to the hospital. Like earth shattering pain happens so often, you can’t go to the hospital every time so you gotta wait and work out if you’re actually dying or not. Especially if you’re a woman with bad period pains. If I went to the hospital every time I had pain that felt like I was dying then I would of gone to the hospital like 50 times and none of them would of been necessary. I think I’d have to be actively dying, like my life is in immediate danger, for me to call an ambulance. I don’t even live in America where healthcare is insanely expensive, I Just don’t want to go to the hospital a million times when it’s nothing. If I was in Phil’s position I probably would of waited at least 6 hours just to be sure but likely I would of waited at least a day. If it was still so bad after a day then I would of considered going to the hospital.

Sometimes firefighters come instead of paramedics because most cities tend to have more firefighters than paramedics
