  • The Salton Sea WWII Naval Air Station in Southern California is a legacy atomic site that was active for many years. The air station is remote and because it is only reachable by 4WD, not many people ever get to see this legacy site. Due to washed out unmaintained roads and deep sand you need to be careful so as not to get your vehicle stuck. Built in the 1940s and used for atomic bomb-shape testing as part of the Manhattan Project and abandoned since the 1990s the Salton Sea Naval Air Station is an incredible place to explore. We show you some of the interesting spots including The Pier, the Power Station, Building A-1, and the building that most people aren't aware of, the "Dogsite Building" where they loaded the dummy atomic bombs onto the planes for testing, and the two landing strips from which these planes took off. Many of these planes crashed and many young men died preparing to defend the United States.
