  • Paignton is a on the English Riviera and is an ideal base for exploring South Devon or walking some sections of the South West Coast Path.
I treated myself to a 2 night stay at the brand new Mercure 4 star hotel on the seafront and in this video I will show you around my room and also chat about my breakfast experience.
I would have loved to get more footage of the public areas like the bar, but I did not want to be intrusive. There is also a gym there aswell as meeting rooms and a restaurant and bar.
Another new hotel will be opening very soon next door to it. The IBIS Styles Hotel.
Let me know if you would like me to look at that one one day too as I enjoy making videos from locations in that area.

What a super video, the hotel room looked great & the breakfast choice was fantastic. Thanks for mentioning the sound from outside, it does make a difference. You may have spent a few more pounds on the room but you enjoyed your treats & the great breakfast.

Thanks Faith! I agree! The treats were worth the extra few pounds! Such a nice hotel. I wish I had an opportunity to film more of the public areas but I felt a bit like I was intrusive. The breakfast was soooooo good!

Thanks Amanda! I really liked it there! It was very comfortable and also both family friendly (loads of families there and dogs too!) - meant to say that in the video!
Also very comfy for the solo traveller too!

When moving around your bedroom makes sure you are clothed as it’s causing great amusement to the people on the seafront who can look straight into those bedrooms when the sun is shining. The floor to ceiling windows with no screens are the cause. The owners of the hotel should have put one way glass in the windows.

Great hotel review Louise. You needed a good breakfast for your SW walking! You certainly did not need to use the gym.😊

Thank you Cathy! My first time doing one. I have thought of a few more things I can include if I do another one somewhere else too. I sure did need a hearty breakfast for all the walking I was doing on the coast path and the hotel definitely provided that! Lol, I agree .. no need to use the gym! The coast path is a natural gym! I climbed so many steps over the two days I was there!

This was a very well balanced hotel review Louise. I like how you honestly, but fairly, pointed out the pitfalls, so people who potentially may want to stay here could weight it all up. An attractive looking hotel, with fab views over the beach. You did this review well. I think that a lot of your subscriber base will be interested in this.

Thank you Paul! That’s a great comment. I may do some more in the future too to give people ideas of where to stay if they fancy coming on holiday to the South West and if I am there anyway if makes sense to make a video review of the place.I like the look of the hotel too, especially with the open air seating under the parasols outside and I like the decor style inside too.

Another eyesore! As an old paigntonian, I cannot believe what a mess the planners have made of the place. It used to be a great example of a Viictorian architecture; now look at it and whatever happened to Dellers cafe? The only decent example of good archecture left, gone with the rest of the buildings of that era. Viisitors would jave flocked to see a town that had preserved its history.

The hotel looks amazing. I stayed at the park hotel which the new one has replaced. The park hotel was awful. I'm staying at the Mercure in mid July and can't wait to visit. If you stay at Torquay try the Belgrave sands, it's a lovely place to stay.

Thank you Simon! I was wondering what was there before it as I have only recently started to explore the area. That’s really interesting. I hope you have a brilliant time when you visit the hotel in July. Thanks so much for the Torquay hotel recommendation. I will look at that and put it on a list for a possible visit 🤗

@@SouthWestSundays hi Louise thank you for your reply. Yes there was a hotel there, the Park hotel where the Mercure is and next door where The ibis is being built was a place called The lighthouse. Two large much needed luxury hotels on the seafront. I hope you have many more pleasant stays there.

Really good review of the hotel. I'm thinking of revisiting that area, maybe this summer & think this would be an ideal base for me. Was there much of a lounge area/bar ? 😊

Thanks so much Caroline! It was a nice hotel. The lounge area and bar/restaurant were open plan with tables inside and outside. I really wanted to get some footage but felt a bit intrusive.
There is an IBIS hotel being built right next door too. I believe it is part of the same company. I might check that one out soon too!
